This dataset includes pre-processed geospatial data grids (.shp) and in high spatial resolution (50 m X 50 m) of 17 microscale built environment attributes. (in km per km2) The geospatial grids have been calculated using the Kernel density tool in ArcGIS Desktop, v.10.3 (ESRI, REDLANDS) applied to the raw GIS vectors (i.e., polylines), created during the street observation phase of our research. Please, also see the read_me.txt and desclaimer.txt files.

The global urban planning apps market, valued at $76.9 million in 2025, is projected to experience robust growth, driven by increasing urbanization, the need for efficient resource management, and the rising adoption of digital technologies in urban planning. A Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.3% from 2025 to 2033 indicates a substantial market expansion. Key drivers include the increasing availability of high-quality geospatial data, advancements in mobile technology facilitating seamless data access and collaboration, and growing government initiatives promoting smart city development. The market is segmented by application (large enterprises and SMEs) and operating system (iOS and Android). Large enterprises, particularly in developed nations, currently dominate the market due to their higher budgets and greater need for sophisticated planning tools. However, the SME segment exhibits significant growth potential, driven by the increasing affordability and accessibility of user-friendly urban planning apps. The adoption of cloud-based solutions enhances collaboration and data sharing, leading to improved efficiency in urban planning projects. Furthermore, the integration of advanced technologies like AI and machine learning into urban planning apps will propel market growth further, enabling predictive modeling and informed decision-making. Geographic expansion is also a significant factor, with regions like Asia-Pacific exhibiting substantial growth potential due to rapid urbanization and increasing government investments in infrastructure development. The competitive landscape is characterized by a mix of established players like Autodesk (AutoCAD 360) and Esri (ArcGIS Collector), and innovative startups offering niche solutions. The market is witnessing increased innovation in areas such as 3D modeling, visualization, and citizen engagement tools. While challenges remain, such as data security concerns and the need for user training and support, the overall outlook for the urban planning apps market remains highly positive. The integration of these apps with other smart city initiatives, such as transportation management systems and environmental monitoring platforms, will further enhance their value and adoption rate, contributing to the overall sustainable development of urban areas. The increasing demand for effective urban planning solutions, coupled with technological advancements and supportive government policies, ensures a promising future for this market.

The Urban Planning Software industry provides various city and regional planning solutions, including geographical information systems (GIS), site topography modeling, map analytics and building information modeling software. Industry demand is tied to private and public entities' construction activity and infrastructure investments. More broadly, urbanization and residential and nonresidential construction levels also dictate industry performance. IBISWorld estimates revenue to increase at a CAGR of 5.1% to $3.1 billion over the five years to 2023, including an increase of 1.1% in 2023 alone because of greater adoption of analytics and software in the urban planning space. Although the industry initially suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic as lockdowns restricted economic activity, trillions of dollars of federal funds were authorized to be used on infrastructure by Congress in the second half of the period, providing a significant tailwind for revenue.Strong growth during most of the current period indicates the growing prevalence and power of its software. Products like GIS software have a wide range of applications and have attracted the attention of planners working for private developers and cash-strapped local governments. Product innovation remains high, and operators seek to establish themselves by creating new applications and systems. Driven by increased demand and premium price points, industry revenue sustained double-digit revenue growth before the current period; however, lackluster construction activity in recent years has tempered overall growth. Characteristic of an emergent industry posting healthy profit, industry entrance is high and the number of enterprises is expected to grow at a rapid pace. The value of private investment in nonresidential construction is forecast to grow over the five years to 2028, while private investment in software is also slated for rapid growth. Consequently, demand for industry software will likely remain strong, with revenue estimated to increase at a CAGR 1.7% to $3.4 billion over the next five years. Municipalities and state governments will rely more on industry services for various applications. Nevertheless, while open-source platforms and systems will likely continue to drive product innovation, they will likely remain the industry's most immediate threat.
