The Veterans Health Administration Medical Facilities dataset includes Veteran Affairs hospitals, Veteran Affairs Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs (RRTP), Veteran Affairs Nursing Home Care Units (NHCU), Veteran Affairs Outpatient Clinics (VAOC), Vet Centers, and Veteran Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC). It should not include planned and suspended (non-operational) sites and mobile clinics. These definitions were set by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Policy Board in December 1998 and are the basis for defining the category and the additional service types for each VHA service site. These definitions cover sites generally owned by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with the exception of leased and contracted community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs).1. VA HOSPITAL: an institution (health care site) that is owned, staffed and operated by VA and whose primary function is to provide inpatient services. NOTE: Each geographically unique inpatient division of an integrated facility is counted as a separate hospital.2. VA RESIDENTIAL REHABILITATION TREATMENT PROGRAM (RRTP): provides comprehensive health and social services in a VA facility for eligible veterans who are ambulatory and do not require the level of care provided in nursing homes.3. VA NURSING HOME CARE UNITS (NHCU): provides care to individuals who are not in need of hospital care, but who require nursing care and related medical or psychosocial services in an institutional setting. VA NHCUs are facilities designed to care for patients who require a comprehensive care management system coordinated by an interdisciplinary team. Services provided include nursing, medical, rehabilitative, recreational, dietetic, psychosocial, pharmaceutical, radiological, laboratory, dental and spiritual.4. VA OUTPATIENT CLINICS:a. Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC): a VA-operated, VA-funded, or VA-reimbursed health care facility or site geographically distinct or separate from a parent medical facility. This term encompasses all types of VA outpatient clinics, except hospital-based, independent and mobile clinics. Satellite, community-based, and outreach clinics have been redefined as CBOCs. Technically, CBOCs fall into four Categories, which are: >(i) VA-owned. A CBOC that is owned and staffed by VA. >(ii) Leased. A CBOC where the space is leased (contracted), but is staffed by VA. NOTE: This includes donated space staffed by VA. >(iii) Contracted. A CBOC where the space and the staff are not VA. This is typically a Healthcare Management Organization (HMO)-type provided where multiple sites can be associated with a single station identifier. >(iv) Not Operational. A CBOC which has been approved by Congress, but has not yet begun operating.b. Hospital-Based Outpatient Clinic: outpatient clinic functions located at a hospital.c. Independent Outpatient Clinic: a full-time, self-contained, freestanding, ambulatory care clinic that has no management, program, or fiscal relationship to a VA medical facility. Primary and specialty health care services are provided in an outpatient setting.5. VET CENTER: Provides professional readjustment counseling, community education, outreach to special populations, brokering of services with community agencies, and access to links between the veteran and VA.6. VA MEDICAL CENTER (VAMC): a medical center is a unique VA site of care providing two or more types of services that reside at a single physical site location. The services provided are the primary service as tracked in the VHA Site Tracking (VAST) (i.e., VA Hospital, Nursing Home, Domiciliary, independent outpatient clinic (IOC), hospital-based outpatient clinic (HBOC), and CBOC). The definition of VA medical center does not include the Vet Centers as an identifying service. This dataset is based upon GFI data received from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). At the request of NGA, text fields in this dataset have been set to all upper case to facilitate consistent database engine search results. At the request of NGA, all diacritics (e.g., the German umlaut or the Spanish tilde) have been replaced with their closest equivalent English character to facilitate use with database systems that may not support diacritics. The currentness of this dataset is indicated by the [CONTDATE] attribute. Based upon this attribute, the oldest record dates from 09/21/2007 and the newest record dates from 10/15/2007.

On March 2, 2022 DC Health announced the District’s new COVID-19 Community Level key metrics and reporting. COVID-19 cases are now reported on a weekly basis. The data in this table includes overall COVID-19 statistics for the District of Columbia hospitals. The number of hospital beds and ventilators available. Due to rapidly changing nature of COVID-19, data for March 2020 is limited.General Guidelines for Interpreting Disease Surveillance Data during a disease outbreak, the health department will collect, process, and analyze large amounts of information to understand and respond to the health impacts of the disease and its transmission in the community. The sources of disease surveillance information include contact tracing, medical record review, and laboratory information, and are considered protected health information. When interpreting the results of these analyses, it is important to keep in mind that the disease surveillance system may not capture the full picture of the outbreak, and that previously reported data may change over time as it undergoes data quality review or as additional information is added. These analyses, especially within populations with small samples, may be subject to large amounts of variation from day to day. Despite these limitations, data from disease surveillance is a valuable source of information to understand how to stop the spread of COVID19.
This map service includes the acute and non-acute care hospitals in Massachusetts.Acute care hospitals are those licensed under MGL Chapter 111, section 51 and which contain a majority of medical-surgical, pediatric, obstetric, and maternity beds, as defined by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH). The features in this layer are based on database information provided to MassGIS from the DPH, Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) and the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA).All hospitals in the state that have a 24-hour emergency department are included in this layer, but not all facilities in this layer have an emergency department (the ER_STATUS field stores this data). Other attributes include cohort, adult and pediatric trauma levels, and special public funding. See CHIA's Massachusetts Acute Hospital Profiles page for more information. CHIA reviewed the final revision in November 2018.Non-acute care hospitals in Massachusetts are typically identified as psychiatric, rehabilitation, and chronic care facilities, along with some non-acute specialty hospitals, using the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) and Department of Mental Health (DMH) license criteria as well as a listing on the state's Bureau of Hospitals website. The non-acute care hospitals are based on database information provided by the DPH and the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA). CHIA reviewed this layer in November 2018.Non-acute care hospitals in this layer do not contain 24/7 emergency departments.See the full data layer descriptions:Acute care hospitalsNon-acute care hospitalsMap service also available
Hospital service areas (HSAs) are organized by towns and are based on inpatient discharges where the diagnosis indicated the need for immediate care. Plurality inclusion rules result in towns being assigned to the HSA corresponding to the plurality of discharges. HSA analyses are used to compare data for residents of 13 geographic regions of Vermont who were provided inpatient and select outpatient services in any Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, or Massachusetts hospital. HSAs are defined by the Vermont Department of Banking, Insurance, Securities, and Healthcare Administration (BISHCA). Information on HSAs can be obtained online at - http://www.bishca.state.vt.us/health-care/research-data-reports/vermont-hospital-utilization-reports-vhur or at - http://healthvermont.gov/research/hospital-utilization.aspx (see frequently asked questions). The VDH Public Health Statistics program periodically updates HSA GIS data. Last updated: 2004.

Acute care hospitals are those licensed under MGL Chapter 111, section 51 and which contain a majority of medical-surgical, pediatric, obstetric, and maternity beds, as defined by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH). The features in this layer are based on database information provided to MassGIS from the DPH, Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS). The August 2009 update of this dataset limited the features to include only acute care hospitals (and removed other "specialty hospitals"; it replaces the layer formerly known as "Hospitals and Emergency Room Facilities." The August 2009 update kept the ER status data and also added attributes to track the status of trauma centers and teaching hospitals. OEMS defines these attributes as follows: - Emergency Rooms provide emergency service to those in need of immediate medical care in order to prevent loss of life or aggravation of physiological or psychological illness or injury.
Trauma Center: a hospital verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as a level 1, 2 or 3 adult trauma center, or a level 1 or 2 pediatric trauma center, as defined in the document ‘Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient: 1999’ by the Trauma Subcommittee of the American College of Surgeons and its successors; and meets applicable Department standards for designation, or a hospital that has applied for and is in the process of verification as specified in 130.851 and meets applicable Department standards for designation.
Teaching Status: a hospital defined according to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission’s (MedPAC) definition of a major teaching hospital: at least 25 full time equivalent medical school residents per one hundred inpatient beds.
