It important to note that there a lot of reports in the database that do not have a spatial location e.g. those that are thematic. These are still available via the Research Reports database. Spatial data relating to reports within the Historic England Research Reports series. This is point data for the grid reference given in the report, or where this was not available from other sources. The majority of reports relate to discrete features such as a building where a building assessment or dendrochronology has been carried out, or a field covered by a geophysical survey. However, there are also a small number of thematic reports that have contained detailed gazetteers allowing multiple links to the same report e.g. Police Stations, Jewish Cemeteries and Shropshire Inns. The most extreme example of this is the Gas Industry report where over 1500 points are used. There are also a number of large area projects covering extensive regions. Because this is a point layer, these are merely covered by a centre point for the feature. Data updated frequently.

Statutory Main Rivers Map is a spatial (polyline) dataset that defines statutory watercourses in England designated as Main Rivers by the Environment Agency.
Watercourses designated as ‘main river’ are generally the larger arterial watercourses. The Environment Agency has permissive powers, but not a duty, to carry out maintenance, improvement or construction work on designated main rivers.
All other open water courses in England are determined by statute as an ‘ordinary watercourse’. On these watercourses the Lead Local flood Authority or, if within an Internal Drainage District, the Internal Drainage Board have similar permissive powers to maintain and improve.

INDEX VILLARIS: or, An Alphabetical Table of all the cities, market-towns, parishes, villages, and private seats in England and Wales was first published by John Adams in 1680. This dataset consists of a transcription of all 24,000 place-names listed in Index Villaris, together with the the symbols representing Adams's categorisation of each place and modern versions of the place-names and the counties and administrative hundred in which they lie or lay. It also comprises a transcription of the latitude and longitude recorded by Adams, and another set of coordinates generated by the application of a thin plate spline transformation calculated by matching some 2,000 place-names to the accurately-georeferenced CAMPOP Towns dataset.
The dataset is being checked, corrected, and refined to include linkage to other geospatial references such as OpenStreetMap and Wikidata, and will in due course be made available in the Linked Places Format.
