This file corrects several problems in the original TIGER/line files, notably the inclusion of parts of Lake Michigan within the city limits, and the numerous irregularities that are a function of the way the TIGER/line files were created. This file will consequently not line up with TIGER/line streets or tracts; it will line up with the 1992 ward boundary file. Its author is Christopher Siciliano.

    Description

These data were automated to provide an accurate high-resolution historical shoreline of Chicago Lake suitable as a geographic information system (GIS) data layer. These data are derived from shoreline maps that were produced by the NOAA National Ocean Service including its predecessor agencies which were based on an office interpretation of imagery and/or field survey. The NGS attribution scheme 'Coastal Cartographic Object Attribute Source Table (C-COAST)' was developed to conform the attribution of various sources of shoreline data into one attribution catalog. C-COAST is not a recognized standard, but was influenced by the International Hydrographic Organization's S-57 Object-Attribute standard so the data would be more accurately translated into S-57. Description

Areas that are within 10 minutes of an exit are emphasized on this map, to give an indication of how accessible neighborhoods are by highway. The colors represent 1, 3, 5 and 10 minute increments from the exits, based on posted exit speeds and local road speeds in ideal conditions. The areas were calculated using ready to use services hosted in ArcGIS which feature a road network from HERE. A simple geoprocessing tool sent 40,000+ exit locations to the service, which returned the 160,000+ polygons. ---------------------The Civic Analytics Network collaborates on shared projects that advance the use of data visualization and predictive analytics in solving important urban problems related to economic opportunity, poverty reduction, and addressing the root causes of social problems of equity and opportunity. The colors of the routes are determined by the HEX values specified in the GTFS files. The popups indicate the name of the transit stop and route. There are numerous analysis options for you to run on this feature service. For example, you can use Data Enrichment to determine the number of households below poverty or the number of businesses within a certain walk or drive time to each stop.
