    Description

IntroductionGeographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis are emerging tools for global health, but it is unclear to what extent they have been applied to HIV research in Africa. To help inform researchers and program implementers, this scoping review documents the range and depth of published HIV-related GIS and spatial analysis research studies conducted in Africa.MethodsA systematic literature search for articles related to GIS and spatial analysis was conducted through PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases. Using pre-specified inclusion criteria, articles were screened and key data were abstracted. Grounded, inductive analysis was conducted to organize studies into meaningful thematic areas. Results and discussionThe search returned 773 unique articles, of which 65 were included in the final review. 15 different countries were represented. Over half of the included studies were published after 2014. Articles were categorized into the following non-mutually exclusive themes: (a) HIV geography, (b) HIV risk factors, and (c) HIV service implementation. Studies demonstrated a broad range of GIS and spatial analysis applications including characterizing geographic distribution of HIV, evaluating risk factors for HIV, and assessing and improving access to HIV care services.ConclusionsGIS and spatial analysis have been widely applied to HIV-related research in Africa. The current literature reveals a diversity of themes and methodologies and a relatively young, but rapidly growing, evidence base.

    Description

It is about updating to GIS information database, Decision Support Tool (DST) in collaboration with IWMI. With the support of the Fish for Livelihoods field team and IPs (MFF, BRAC Myanmar, PACT Myanmar, and KMSS) staff, collection of Global Positioning System GPS location data for year-1 (2019-20) 1,167 SSA farmer ponds, and year-2 (2020-21) 1,485 SSA farmer ponds were completed with different GPS mobile applications: My GPS Coordinates, GPS Status & Toolbox, GPS Essentials, Smart GPS Coordinates Locator and GPS Coordinates. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model that integrates climate change analysis with water availability will provide an important tool informing decisions on scaling pond adoption. It can also contribute to a Decision Support Tool to better target pond scaling. GIS Data also contribute to identify the location point of the F4L SSA farmers ponds on the Myanmar Map by fiscal year from 1 to 5.

    Thinking Spatially Using GIS

Thinking Spatially Using GIS is a 1:1 set of instructional materials for students that use ArcGIS Online to teach basic geography concepts found in upper elementary school and above.
Each module has both a teacher and student file.

The zoo in your community is so popular and successful that it has decided to expand. After careful research, zookeepers have decided to add an exotic animal to the zoo population. They are holding a contest for visitors to guess what the new animal will be. You will use skills you have learned in classification and analysis to find what part of the world the new animal is from and then identify it.

To help you get started, the zoo has provided a list of possible animals. A list of clues will help you choose the correct answers. You will combine information you have in multiple layers of maps to find your answer.

    Description

A Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool (GW-NDST) for wells in Wisconsin was developed to assist resource managers with assessing how legacy and possible future nitrate leaching rates, combined with groundwater lag times and potential denitrification, influence nitrate concentrations in wells (Juckem et al. 2024). The GW-NDST relies on several support models, including machine-learning models that require numerous GIS input files. This data release contains all GIS files required to run the GW-NDST and its machine-learning support models. The GIS files are packaged into three ZIP files (WI_County.zip, WT-ML.zip, and WI_Buff1km.zip) which are contained in this data release. Before running the GW-NDST, these ZIP files need to be downloaded and unzipped inside the "data_in/GIS/" subdirectory of the GW-NDST. The GW-NDST can be downloaded from the official software release on GitLab (https://doi.org/10.5066/P13ETB4Q). Further instructions for running the GW-NDST, and for acquiring requisite files, can be found in the software's readme file.
