    Description

The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of Fort Larned National Historic Site and Vicinity, Kansas is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) a 10.1 file geodatabase (fols_geology.gdb), a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro map file (.mapx) file (fols_geology.mapx) and individual Pro layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer), as well as with a 2.) 10.1 ArcMap (.mxd) map document (fols_geology.mxd) and individual 10.1 layer (.lyr) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format. Contact Stephanie O'Meara (see contact information below) to acquire the GIS data in these GIS data formats. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) A GIS readme file (fols_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (fols_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (fols_geology_metadata_faq.pdf). Please read the fols_geology_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the GIS data and other map files. Google Earth software is available for free at: https://www.google.com/earth/versions/. QGIS software is available for free at: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/. Users are encouraged to only use the Google Earth data for basic visualization, and to use the GIS data for any type of data analysis or investigation. The data were completed as a component of the Geologic Resources Inventory (GRI) program, a National Park Service (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) Division funded program that is administered by the NPS Geologic Resources Division (GRD). Source geologic maps and data used to complete this GRI digital dataset were provided by the following: Kansas Geological Survey. Detailed information concerning the sources used and their contribution the GRI product are listed in the Source Citation section(s) of this metadata record (fols_geology_metadata.txt or fols_geology_metadata_faq.pdf). Users of this data are cautioned about the locational accuracy of features within this dataset. Based on the source map scale of 1:50,000 and United States National Map Accuracy Standards features are within (horizontally) 25.4 meters or 83.3 feet of their actual location as presented by this dataset. Users of this data should thus not assume the location of features is exactly where they are portrayed in Google Earth, ArcGIS, QGIS or other software used to display this dataset. Description

This is GIS data of well-header information for oil and gas wells in Kansas. The data is based on well information submitted to the Kansas Corporation Commission on wells planned, drilled, worked over, or plugged. Well information is also collected from wireline logs, core or cuttings submitted for storage, or historical compilations. Some data from other states is included for research purposes. The Kansas Geological Survey compiles and publishes this data. For field/column definitions, download this spreadsheet. The Kansas Geological Survey works with the Kansas Corporation Commission and the Kansas Department of Revenue to create an accurate listing of the oil and gas wells in Kansas. While the other agencies have regulatory duties facilitated by having an accurate accounting of oil and gas wells, the Survey maintains the listing for research purposes and for use by citizens and companies interested in the oil and gas resources of the state.

    Description

Contour lines were generated at 2 foot intervals by county using Kansas LiDAR Bare Earth DEMs collected from 2015 through 2018. The source LiDAR Bare Earth DEM tiles are 1 meter resolution USGS QL2 data. A contouring script developed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources was adapted to create Kansas contours at every 2 feet, 10 feet at a time. Contour lines were then simplified using a 2 foot tolerance, and lines less than 100 feet were removed. There is a identifier in the attribute table for 10 foot contour lines. Generalization of the contours lines over water bodies and roads will have a triangular appearance due to their lack of elevation data.In steep terrain, it is possible that the individual contours lines may cross each other. Due to the processing steps of creating individual lines and then merging lines into a single file, overlaps may exist and have not been and will not be fixed. For more detailed information on the Kansas LiDAR project areas: LinkPresentation at the 2023 Kansas Association of Mappers conference: LinkThe full Kansas geospatial catalog is administered by the Kansas Data Access & Support Center (DASC) and can be found at the following URL: https://hub.kansasgis.org/

    Description

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Primary roads are generally divided, limited-access highways within the interstate highway system or under State management, and are distinguished by the presence of interchanges. These highways are accessible by ramps and may include some toll highways. The MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) is S1100 for primary roads. Secondary roads are main arteries, usually in the U.S. Highway, State Highway, and/or County Highway system. These roads have one or more lanes of traffic in each direction, may or may not bedivided, and usually have at-grade intersections with many other roads and driveways. They usually have both a local name and a route number. The MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) is S1200 for secondary roads.

An oil and/or gas lease is an agreement between a mineral owner (lessor) and a company (lessee) in which the owner grants the company the right to explore, drill and produce oil, gas, and other minerals below the surface of the earth. Oil and gas leases are created so that property owner can maintain their mineral rights while leasing their land to an extraction company. The Kansas Geological Survey maintains and publishes this GIS data. The Kansas Department of Revenue is the data originator, and they send updates to the KGS monthly.

Address points represent all sites and structures with an assigned street address. The Address Points layer is strongly recommended in the NENA standard, but it is required in the Kansas NG911 GIS Data Model. At minimum, there is a point on every addressable single-unit building, a point on each living unit/occupancy of every multi-unit building or complex, and a point for every telephone service address in the TN listing. This data is updated quarterly. Please refer to the Kansas NG911 GIS Data Model for more details: Kansas NG9-1-1 GIS Data Model (kansasgis.org)Some Kansas PSAP GIS Data Stewards prefer to handle their address point GIS data distribution on a per request basis.
