This database consists of a series of maps that depict the spatial distribution of nearshore topo-bathymetric transects along the peak wave directions and accompanying profiles that present elevation and depth values along these transects on the islands of Maui and Molokai.
Transects are identified by Francis et al. (2024a). State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) state routes and Maui County Roads are acquired from HDOT (2023) and MC (2022). Shoreline datasets are provided by NGS (2017). Elevation and depth values along the transects are referenced to local mean sea level (LMSL) and are sampled from a digital elevation model (DEM) prepared by Francis et al. (2019).

Twitter[Metadata] Flood Hazard Areas for the County of Maui - downloaded from FEMA Flood Map Service Center, May 1, 2021. The National Flood Hazard Layer (NFHL) data incorporates all Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) databases published by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and any Letters of Map Revision (LOMRs) that have been issued against those databases since their publication date. It is updated on a monthly basis. The FIRM Database is the digital, geospatial version of the flood hazard information shown on the published paper FIRMs. The FIRM Database depicts flood risk information and supporting data used to develop the risk data. The primary risk classifications used are the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event, the 0.2-percent-annual-chance flood event, and areas of minimal flood risk. The FIRM Database is derived from Flood Insurance Studies (FISs), previously published FIRMs, flood hazard analyses performed in support of the FISs and FIRMs, and new mapping data, where available. The FISs and FIRMs are published by FEMA. The NFHL is available as State or US Territory data sets. Each State or Territory data set consists of all FIRM Databases and corresponding LOMRs available on the publication date of the data set. The specification for the horizontal control of FIRM Databases is consistent with those required for mapping at a scale of 1:12,000. This file is georeferenced to the Earth's surface using the Geographic Coordinate System (GCS) and North American Datum of 1983.For additional information, please summary metadata https://files.hawaii.gov/dbedt/op/gis/data/s_fld_haz_ar_state.pdf or contact Hawaii Statewide GIS Program, Office of Planning and Sustainable Development, State of Hawaii; PO Box 2359, Honolulu, Hi. 96804; (808) 587-2846; email: gis@hawaii.gov; Website: https://planning.hawaii.gov/gis.

This database consists of a series of maps showing the maximum annually recurring wave information adjacent to 302 mileposts along Hawaii state routes on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Oahu and Kauai previously identified for their vulnerability to the effects of climate change as part of the Statewide Coastal Highways Project Report.
PWD represents Peak Wave Direction, from which the wave is coming, SWH represents Significant Wave Height, and PWP represents Peak Wave Period. Virtual Buoys (VB) are identified by Francis et al. (2019), and Mileposts (MP) are identified by Brandes et al. (2019). HDOT state routes and county street centerline datasets are acquired from HDOT (2017) and HOLIS, C&CH (2017). Shoreline datasets are provided by NGS (2017).
Please read ‘Description-Map of Maximum Annually Recurring Wave Information.docx’ for detailed information.

This dataset was created using ownership information provided by the counties via tax map key parcel layers and ownership tables. Parcels were queried using the "Owner" field for state, county, and federal agency names. State GIS staff verified land ownership using the online service QPublic, the 2022 Department of Hawaiian Home Lands layer and other GIS layers and resources. Where ownership was still unclear, State GIS personnel reached out to appropriate agencies for clarification. Summary fields “majorowner” and “type” were created using additional filters, queries and analysis tools to summarize the data based upon government ownership sector and type. Also see detailed government ownership layer (gov_own_detailed) which is comprised of government land ownership by TMK parcel.
