Using the spyglass application, viewers can explore and see the near 50-year difference in aerial photography between Newmarket now (2019) and then (1970). Growing in population and physical size, a lot has changed since 1970! The population of Newmarket was 11,000. The Town was about to increase in size from approximately 15 square kilometres to just over 38 square kilometres, to include land from the Townships of East Gwillimbury, King, and Whitchurch. Since then, Newmarket has grown considerably, filling out in all directions. The town limits now run from Bathurst Street in the west to Highway 404 in the east, and just south of Green Lane to just north of St. John's Sideroad. While our population has increased steadily to over 84,000! (2016 Census)Use the spyglass to explore and view the difference between 2018 and 1970 Newmarket. Simply drag the spyglass tool over an area of interest to see what it looked like back in 1970. Essentially, the image within the spyglass shows the aerial imagery from back then (1970), surrounded by the imagery from now (2018). The streets have been left on for reference.
