    Description

The Ontario Imagery Web Map Service (OIWMS) is an open data service available to everyone free of charge. It provides instant online access to the most recent, highest quality, province wide imagery. GEOspatial Ontario (GEO) makes this data available as an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant web map service or as an ArcGIS map service. Imagery was compiled from many different acquisitions which are detailed in the Ontario Imagery Web Map Service Metadata Guide linked below. Instructions on how to use the service can also be found in the Imagery User Guide linked below. Note: This map displays the Ontario Imagery Web Map Service Source, a companion ArcGIS web map service to the Ontario Imagery Web Map Service. It provides an overlay that can be used to identify acquisition relevant information such as sensor source and acquisition date. OIWMS contains several hierarchical layers of imagery, with coarser less detailed imagery that draws at broad scales, such as a province wide zooms, and finer more detailed imagery that draws when zoomed in, such as city-wide zooms. The attributes associated with this data describes at what scales (based on a computer screen) the specific imagery datasets are visible. Description

Bathymetry is the measurement of water depth in lakes. From the 1940s to the 1990s, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry produced bathymetry maps for over 11,000 lakes across Ontario. The data can be used by the general public and GIS specialists for: * climate change modelling * fish monitoring and other ecological applications * hydrologic cycle modelling * recreational fishing maps * watershed-based water budgeting The maps were created using simple methods to determine lake depths. They were meant for resource management purposes only. Little effort was made to identify shoals and other hazards when creating these bathymetric maps. Since this data was collected, many constructed and naturally occurring events could mean that the depth information is now inaccurate, so these maps should not be used for navigational purposes. In many cases, these maps still represent the only authoritative source of bathymetry data for lakes in Ontario. Technical information These maps are being converted to digital GIS line data which can be found in the Bathymetry Line data class. The Bathymetry Index data class identifies if GIS vector lines have been created and the location of mapped lakes. The historic paper maps have been scanned into digital files. We will add new digital files to this dataset if they become available. The digital files have been grouped and packaged by regions into 13 compressed (zipped) files for download. Note: package 99 contains scanned maps where the location shown on the map could not be determined.

    Description

Mosaics are published as ArcGIS image serviceswhich circumvent the need to download or order data. GEO-IDS image services are different from standard web services as they provide access to the raw imagery data. This enhances user experiences by allowing for user driven dynamic area of interest image display enhancement, raw data querying through tools such as the ArcPro information tool, full geospatial analysis, and automation through scripting tools such as ArcPy. Image services are best accessed through the ArcGIS REST APIand REST endpoints (URL's). You can copy the OPS ArcGIS REST API link below into a web browser to gain access to a directory containing all OPS image services. Individual services can be added into ArcPro for display and analysis by using Add Data -> Add Data From Path and copying one of the image service ArcGIS REST endpoint below into the resultant text box. They can also be accessed by setting up an ArcGIS server connectionin ESRI software using the ArcGIS Image Server REST endpoint/URL. Services can also be accessed in open-source software. For example, in QGIS you can right click on the type of service you want to add in the browser pane (e.g., ArcGIS REST Server, WCS, WMS/WMTS) and copy and paste the appropriate URL below into the resultant popup window. All services are in Web Mercator projection. For more information on what functionality is available and how to work with the service, read the Ontario Web Raster Services User Guide. Description

This spatial dataset comprises polygons that represent property parcels within the City of Niagara Falls. Although this layer closely follows Tax Roll parcels, there may be some instances where the ownership parcel's geometry to the PIN is used. The parcel layer is regularly updated using various sources, including Certificate of Consent documents from the CNF Committee of Adjustment, Registered Plans (of Subdivision or Condominium), Agreements of a Registered development (Subdivision or Condominium), Registered Deeds, Registered Reference Plans, and MPAC SCIF reports. To verify legal descriptions and ownership, PIN Details and maps from the Land Registry Office are also referenced, as needed. The original version of this product, a hybrid property dataset provided by the Region, was created using Ontario Base Mapping hard copy base (likely North American Datum of 1927 (NAD27) UTM 17) and would have been checked for quality using Ortho imagery available at the time. This information has been compiled from numerous sources and standards over the years, so spatial inaccuracies are to be expected. It's important to note that this layer is strictly intended for mapping and reference purposes, and should not be used to define the boundaries of individual parcels of land for legal purposes. Attribute details contain the primary address for the parcel and are not reflective of all valid addresses in the City of Niagara Falls for individual parcels.

    Description

The LIO Topographic Data Cache is a collection of topographic data, that has been preprocessed for fast, seamless display at predefined scales. The topographic data includes constructed and natural features that make up Ontario’s landscape. The cache provides limited data from areas outside Ontario’s boundaries, such as the United States and adjacent provinces and territories. Technical information Two versions of the LIO Topographic Data Cache are available: 1. The traditional raster version is available for a variety of GIS applications and is updated annually. 2. The vector version is suitable for online web map applications as well as modern GIS software and is updated twice a year. Contributing data layers may have different maintenance and update cycles. Some cache layers have been processed in a way that makes it easier for them to be displayed in a mapping product. Other layers are unchanged from the authoritative data. The cartographic symbology used in the data cache is intentionally muted to allow users to showcase their data. The LIO Topographic Data Cache is created from many source datasets, which are described in the LIO Topographic Data Cache user guide. If you are interested in getting this authoritative data, you can download it from the Ontario GeoHub. For instructions on getting a copy of either version of the cache for use in mapping applications, visit the Ontario GeoHub.

These data were automated to provide an accurate high-resolution historical shoreline of Lake Ontario suitable as a geographic information system (GIS) data layer. These data are derived from shoreline maps that were produced by the NOAA National Ocean Service including its predecessor agencies which were based on an office interpretation of imagery and/or field survey. The NGS attribution scheme 'Coastal Cartographic Object Attribute Source Table (C-COAST)' was developed to conform the attribution of various sources of shoreline data into one attribution catalog. C-COAST is not a recognized standard, but was influenced by the International Hydrographic Organization's S-57 Object-Attribute standard so the data would be more accurately translated into S-57. The Digital Surface Models (DSM) are raster elevation products that were generated from the elevation point clouds created via pixel-correlation from aerial photography. A DSM is the highest reflective surface of ground features captured by the sensor. This surface may also be referred to as the first reflective surface. The DSM may include treetops, rooftops, and tops of towers, telephone poles, and other natural or artificial features; or it may include the ground surface if there is no vegetative ground cover.

Zoom in on the map above and click your area of interest or use the Tile Index linked below to determine which package(s) you require for download. The Digital Elevation Models (DEM) are 2-m resolution raster elevation products that were generated from the Ontario Classified Point Cloud (Imagery-Derived) data. The point clouds were created via a pixel-autocorrelation process from the stereo aerial photography of the Land Information Ontario (LIO) imagery program. It is important to note that the DEM does not represent a full ‘bare-earth’ elevation surface. There are areas where there are very few points classified as Ground and interpolation has occurred across the resulting voids. Points classified as Ground have not been assessed for accuracy to determine if they represent true ground features. Some features are still raised above ground surface, such as larger buildings, larger forest stands and other raised features.

    Description

This data set is an index identifying Ontario Base Map (OBM) map tiles and digital vector data available for each tile. Eastern and Southern Ontario is covered at a scale of 1:10,000 and Northern Ontario is covered at a scale of 1:20,000.

Ontario Base Maps (OBM) are a series of maps created and updated by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources between 1977 and 2000. The MNR extracted the 33 layers from their NAD83 NRVIS dataset to create the NAD83 digital OBM sheets and vector data packages. The data provided may not be spatially defined upon download and may need to be defined using GIS (e.g. NAD 83 UTM Zone 18).

The data and maps cover most of Ontario and contain many features normally found on topographic maps such as relief, hydrography, vegetation and roads.
