The National Transit Map - Routes dataset was compiled on December 02, 2024 from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) and is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) National Transportation Atlas Database (NTAD). The National Transit Map (NTM) is a nationwide catalog of fixed-guideway and fixed-route transit service in America. It is compiled using General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) Schedule data. The NTM Routes dataset shows transit routes, which is a group of trips that are displayed to riders as a single service. To display the route alignment and trips for each route, this dataset combines the following GTFS files: routes.txt, trips.txt, and shapes.txt. The GTFS Schedule documentation is available at, https://gtfs.org/schedule/. To improve the spatial accuracy of the NTM Routes, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) adjusts transit routes using context from the submitted GTFS source data and/or from other publicly available information about the transit service. Description

This resource contains statewide networks of roadways, railroads, bridges, and low water crossings, for Texas only.

Roadways detail: The Transportation Planning and Programming (TPP) Division of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintains a spatial dataset of roadway polylines for planning and asset inventory purposes, as well as for visualization and general mapping. M values are stored in the lines as DFOs (Distance From Origin), and provide the framework for managing roadway assets using linear referencing. This dataset covers the state of Texas and includes on-systems routes (those that TxDOT maintains), such as interstate highways, U.S. highways, state highways, and farm and ranch roads, as well as off-system routes, such as county roads and local streets. Date valid as of: 12/31/2014. Publish Date: 05/01/2015. Update Frequency: Quarterly.

Bridges detail: As with the roadways, both on-system and off-system bridges are maintained in separate datasets (54,844 total bridges, 36,007 on-system and 18,837 off-system). Bridges have numerous useful attributes, see coding guide [1] for documentation. One such attribute identifies structures that cross water: the second digit of Item 42 “Type of Service”. If the second digit is between 5 and 9 (inclusive) then the structure is over water. The bridges datasets are valid as of December 2016.

The roadways and bridges datasets contained here were obtained directly from TxDOT through personal correspondence. An alternate resource that is more open is the Texas Natural Resources Information System (TNRIS) [2]. The railroads and low-water crossings were obtained through TNRIS.

    Description

The source dataset represents the locations of hurricane evacuation routes. A hurricane evacuation route is a designated route used to direct traffic inland in case of a hurricane threat.

Use Cases: Use cases describe how the data may be used and help to define and clarify requirements.

    1. A resource for emergency route planning purposes.
    2. A resource for situational awareness planning and response for federal government events.
    3. A portion of an evacuation route may be rendered unusable due to natural or manmade disaster and rerouting of traffic is necessary.
    4. An incident has occurred during an evacuation and first responders must quickly deploy to the area.
    5. Public awareness.

Supplemental: Hurricane Evacuation Routes in the United States. A hurricane evacuation route is a designated route used to direct traffic inland in case of a hurricane threat. This dataset is based on supplied data from Gulf Coast and Atlantic Seaboard states. Each state was contacted by TGS to determine an official source for hurricane evacuation routes. GIS data was gathered from states willing to share such data. In cases where states were unable or unwilling to share data in this format, TGS requested that the states provide a source for identifying hurricane evacuation routes. The states usually identified a website that made this data available to the public. Three (3) states (ME, NY, and NH) indicated that they do not maintain public maps showing hurricane evacuation routes and were unable or unwilling to share GIS files depicting such routes. Hurricane evacuation routes depicted on non-GIS maps were digitized using aerial ortho imagery while referencing supplied maps. Shape files that depicted hurricane evacuation routes were edge matched and merged with the digitized evacuation routes. All routes identified as primary hurricane evacuation routes were included in this dataset. If a state also designated secondary hurricane evacuation routes, they were included as well. Routes depicted in this dataset are dependent upon what each state identified as a hurricane evacuation route. Criteria used to identify these routes may vary from state to state.

    Description

This is a dynamic traffic map service with capabilities for visualizing traffic speeds relative to free-flow speeds as well as traffic incidents which can be visualized and identified. The traffic data is updated every five minutes. Traffic speeds are displayed as a percentage of free-flow speeds, which is frequently the speed limit or how fast cars tend to travel when unencumbered by other vehicles. The streets are color coded as follows: Green (fast): 85 - 100% of free flow speeds Yellow (moderate): 65 - 85% Orange (slow); 45 - 65% Red (stop and go): 0 - 45%Esri's historical, live, and predictive traffic feeds come directly from TomTom (www.tomtom.com). Historical traffic is based on the average of observed speeds over the past year. The live and predictive traffic data is updated every five minutes through traffic feeds. The color coded traffic map layer can be used to represent relative traffic speeds; this is a common type of a map for online services and is used to provide context for routing, navigation and field operations. The traffic map layer contains two sublayers: Traffic and Live Traffic. The Traffic sublayer (shown by default) leverages historical, live and predictive traffic data; while the Live Traffic sublayer is calculated from just the live and predictive traffic data only. A color coded traffic map image can be requested for the current time and any time in the future. A map image for a future request might be used for planning purposes. The map layer also includes dynamic traffic incidents showing the location of accidents, construction, closures and other issues that could potentially impact the flow of traffic. Traffic incidents are commonly used to provide context for routing, navigation and field operations. Incidents are not features; they cannot be exported and stored for later use or additional analysis. The service works globally and can be used to visualize traffic speeds and incidents in many countries. Check the service coverage web map to determine availability in your area of interest. In the coverage map, the countries color coded in dark green support visualizing live traffic. The support for traffic incidents can be determined by identifying a country. For detailed information on this service, including a data coverage map, visit the directions and routing documentation and ArcGIS Help.

    Description

This water flow network dataset is a route feature class rather than a simple polyline. The geometry is generated by merging the river lines of individual geometric network datasets. This layer contains an integrated flow network that includes known flow connections through rivers, lakes and groundwater aquifers. In places where the network is depicted flowing through lakes or through underground channels, the flow channels are schematic only, and do not represent the precise location of these flow channels. The appropriate Geological Survey Ireland data sets should be consulted where underground flows or connections are known or suspected. This dataset is provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
