This data set provides a generalized outline of the 72 counties in Wisconsin. The data is derived from 1:24,000-scale sources.

Access Wisconsin's 198 data folders with 1,291 services and 4,586 layers of parcel boundaries, property tax records, and GIS mapping data.

The Digital Geologic-GIS Map of Saint Croix National Riverway and Vicinity, Minnesota and Wisconsin is composed of GIS data layers and GIS tables, and is available in the following GRI-supported GIS data formats: 1.) a 10.1 file geodatabase (sacn_geology.gdb), a 2.) Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) geopackage, and 3.) 2.2 KMZ/KML file for use in Google Earth, however, this format version of the map is limited in data layers presented and in access to GRI ancillary table information. The file geodatabase format is supported with a 1.) ArcGIS Pro map file (.mapx) file (sacn_geology.mapx) and individual Pro layer (.lyrx) files (for each GIS data layer), as well as with a 2.) 10.1 ArcMap (.mxd) map document (sacn_geology.mxd) and individual 10.1 layer (.lyr) files (for each GIS data layer). The OGC geopackage is supported with a QGIS project (.qgz) file. Upon request, the GIS data is also available in ESRI 10.1 shapefile format. In addition to the GIS data and supporting GIS files, three additional files comprise a GRI digital geologic-GIS dataset or map: 1.) A GIS readme file (sacn_geology_gis_readme.pdf), 2.) the GRI ancillary map information document (.pdf) file (sacn_geology.pdf) which contains geologic unit descriptions, as well as other ancillary map information and graphics from the source map(s) used by the GRI in the production of the GRI digital geologic-GIS data for the park, and 3.) a user-friendly FAQ PDF version of the metadata (sacn_geology_metadata_faq.pdf). Please read the sacn_geology_gis_readme.pdf for information pertaining to the proper extraction of the GIS data and other map files. This data set is a polygon shapefile representing Public Land Survey System (PLSS) sections. The data are a subset of the Wisconsin DNR's 'Landnet' database, automated from 1:24,000-scale sources.*DNR staff have added an alpha field for the range direction field in this layer called DIR_ALPHA which uses W and E instead of numerical direction codes.

A Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool (GW-NDST) for wells in Wisconsin was developed to assist resource managers with assessing how legacy and possible future nitrate leaching rates, combined with groundwater lag times and potential denitrification, influence nitrate concentrations in wells (Juckem et al. 2024). The GW-NDST relies on several support models, including machine-learning models that require numerous GIS input files. This data release contains all GIS files required to run the GW-NDST and its machine-learning support models. The GIS files are packaged into three ZIP files (WI_County.zip, WT-ML.zip, and WI_Buff1km.zip) which are contained in this data release. Before running the GW-NDST, these ZIP files need to be downloaded and unzipped inside the "data_in/GIS/" subdirectory of the GW-NDST. The GW-NDST can be downloaded from the official software release on GitLab (https://doi.org/10.5066/P13ETB4Q). Further instructions for running the GW-NDST, and for acquiring requisite files, can be found in the software's readme file.

Sensitive Areas of Lakes are designated as Critical Habitat Areas in Wisconsin. These areas comprise of aquatic vegetation identified by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources as offering critical or unique fish and wildlife habitat, including seasonal or life stage requirements, or offering water quality or erosion control benefits to the body of water. Wisconsin law mandates special protections for these critical habitats. Critical Habitat Designation is a program that recognizes those areas and maps them so that everyone knows which areas are most vulnerable to impacts from human activity.

The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. Primary roads are generally divided, limited-access highways within the interstate highway system or under State management, and are distinguished by the presence of interchanges. These highways are accessible by ramps and may include some toll highways. The MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) is S1100 for primary roads. Secondary roads are main arteries, usually in the U.S. Highway, State Highway, and/or County Highway system. These roads have one or more lanes of traffic in each direction, may or may not bedivided, and usually have at-grade intersections with many other roads and driveways. They usually have both a local name and a route number. The MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) is S1200 for secondary roads.

This Coastal Barrier Resources System (CBRS) data set, produced by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), contains areas designated as undeveloped coastal barriers in accordance with the Coastal Barrier Resources Act (CBRA), 16 U.S.C. 3501 et seq., as amended. The boundaries used to create the polygons herein were compiled from the official John H. Chafee Coastal Barrier Resources System CBRS maps, which are accessible at the Service’s Headquarters office or https://www.fws.gov/program/coastal-barrier-resources-act/maps-and-data. These digital polygons are only representations of the CBRS boundaries shown on the official CBRS maps and are not to be considered authoritative. The Service is not responsible for any misuse or misinterpretation of this digital data set, including use of the data to determine eligibility for federal financial assistance such as federal flood insurance. As maps are revised, this data set will be updated with the new boundaries. CBRS boundaries viewed using the CBRS Mapper or the shapefile are subject to misrepresentations beyond the Service’s control, including misalignments of the boundaries with third party base layers and mis-projections of spatial data. Ecological Landscapes of Wisconsin are aggregations of NHFEU (National Hierarchical Framework of Ecological Units) subsections that have been assigned descriptive names. The Ecological Landscapes of Wisconsin are represented on a May, 1999 map prepared under the direction of the DNR Division of Land Ecosystem Management Planning Team.The NHFEU concept, developed by the USFS, is considered one of the oldest and best-documented ecosystem classification schemes at the federal level. The NHFEU has been refined over the years as new information becomes available to identify lower levels of the hierarchy.

This CBRS data set was created to depict areas designated as undeveloped coastal barriers in accordance with the CBRA. These digital polygons are representations of the CBRS boundaries shown on the official CBRS maps referenced in 16 U.S.C. 3503(a). This data set should be paired with the CBRS Buffer Zone shapefile to illustrate the stated horizontal accuracy of the boundaries herein. This data set is intended for use by those users seeking both information regarding the location of CBRS units and the System Unit establishment date (where applicable) and flood insurance prohibition date. This is the data set that should be used (in conjunction with the CBRS Buffer Zone shapefile) to complete FEMA's Standard Flood Hazard Determination Form and Elevation Certificate. This data set may be used by FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to determine whether structures within the CBRS are grandfathered for flood insurance purposes. This data set may also be used by Federal agencies to determine whether certain pre-existing roads, structures, facilities, and federal navigations channels within the CBRS are eligible for federal funding and financial assistance. Users are advised to contact the Service for an official determination as to whether a particular property or structure that falls either partially or completely within the CBRS Buffer Zone is located within CBRS.
