    Description

Download In State Plane Projection Here In addition to the Tax Parcel polygons feature class, the hyperlink download above also contains a parcel point data layer Parcel boundaries are developed from deeds, plats of subdivision and other legal documents going back to the mid 1800's, following generally accepted practices used in Public Land Survey System states, and following guidelines established by the Illinois Department of Revenue and the International Association of Assessment Officials. Lake County's parcel coverage is based on resolving the accumulated evidence of all of the legal documents surrounding a particular parcel or subdivision, and not the result of a countywide resurvey. These parcel boundaries are intended to be a visual inventory of property for tax and other administrative purposes; they are not intended to be used in place of an on-site survey or for the precise determination of property corners or PLSS features based on GIS coordinates. In Illinois, only a registered professional land surveyor is authorized to determine boundary locations. Included are the tax parcel boundaries, represented as polygons and centroids, for all changes resulting from legal records submitted to the Recorder of Deeds up to December 31st of the preceding year, as well as any court orders, municipal annexations and other transactions which impact the tax parcel boundaries. NOTE: The ONLY attribute included is the Property Index Number, or PARCEL_NUM. Additional assessment attribute data can be downloaded here This parcel layer is used for tax assessment purposes and for a variety of other local government functions. It changes often, both spatially and in its attribution, based on divisions or consolidations, the sale of property and other transactions. Example: PIN 08-17-304-014 can be interpreted as follows: Township 08, Section 17, Block 304, Parcel 014. Note that the first digit of block, "3" in this example, signifies that the parcel lies in quarter section 3. The quarter sections are labeled from 1 through 4, representing the northwest, northeast, southwest and southeast quarter sections, respectively. Update Frequency: This dataset is updated on a weekly basis.

    Description

A complete, historic universe of Cook County parcels with attached geographic, governmental, and spatial data.

When working with Parcel Index Numbers (PINs) make sure to zero-pad them to 14 digits. Some datasets may lose leading zeros for PINs when downloaded.

    Additional notes:

    • Non-taxing district data is attached via spatial join (st_contains) to each parcel's centroid.
    • Tax district data (school district, park district, municipality, etc.) are attached by a parcel's assigned tax code.
    • Centroids are based on Cook County parcel shapefiles.
    • Older properties may be missing coordinates and thus also missing attached spatial data (usually they are missing a parcel boundary in the shapefile).
    • Newer properties may be missing a mailing or property address, as they need to be assigned one by the postal service.
    • This dataset contains data for the current tax year, which may not yet be complete or final. Assessed values for any given year are subject to change until review and certification of values by the Cook County Board of Review, though there are a few rare circumstances where values may change for the current or past years after that.
    • Rowcount for a given year is final once the Assessor has certified the assessment roll all townships.
    • Data will be updated monthly.
    • Depending on the time of year, some third-party and internal data will be missing for the most recent year. Assessments mailed this year represent values from last year, so this isn't an issue. By the time the Data Department models values for this year, those data will have populated.
    • Current property class codes, their levels of assessment, and descriptions can be found on the Assessor's website. Note that class codes details can change across time.
    • Due to discrepancies between the systems used by the Assessor and Clerk's offices, tax_district_code is not currently up-to-date in this table.
For more information on the sourcing of attached data and the preparation of this dataset, see the Assessor's Standard Operating Procedures for Open Data on GitHub.

    Description

In order to support science-based water resource management, a systematic effort was undertaken to characterize the nature and function of the hydrogeology in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. Jo Daviess County is a karst area. Karst is a geologically and hydrologically integrated or interconnected and self-organizing network of landforms and subsurface large-scale, secondary porosity created by a combination of fractured carbonate bedrock, the movement of water into and through the rock body as part of the hydrologic cycle, and physical and chemical weathering (Panno, S.V. et al, 2017). Springs, cover-collapse sinkholes, crevices, and caves are among the defining features of a karst terrain; each of these features is found in Jo Daviess County. Examples of these features have been located in the field and using other remotely-sensed data and characterized by scientists from the Illinois State Geological and Water Surveys (Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). For this project, groundwater samples were collected from springs and wells and analyzed for inorganic chemistry, dissolved organic carbon, stable isotopes of water, and tritium. The project objective was to initiate a karst feature database, to collect water samples from springs to determine groundwater background concentrations of major anions, cations, and field parameters, and to then characterize and group the different populations of groundwater within Jo Daviess County. This project was supported by Grant Awards F16AP00772 and F18AC00961, from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to the League of Women Voters of Illinois Education Fund as well as support from the Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois. In addition to reports created for each sampling location (containing data, photographs and interpretation) and submitted to USFWS as grantee performance reports for Grant Award F16AP00772, the publication cited below references the data and provides interpretation:Panno, S.V., W.R. Download In State Plane Projection Here. This is our working version of the Lake County boundary. Although technically the county's eastern border extends eastward into Lake Michigan to the state line where Illinois meets Michigan, we routinely use the Lake Michigan shoreline as our eastern boundary for mapping purposes. The north, west and south boundaries are based on a compilation of survey data which aligns well, but not perfectly, with the border as mapped by neighboring counties and the State of Wisconsin, which forms the northern boundary of the county. Update Frequency: This dataset is updated on a weekly basis.

    Description

Cook County Property Tax 101 provides an introduction to the Illinois Property Tax system. In an effort to increase transparency and awareness, the Cook County Clerk designed an application that identifies various property tax offices and the role each plays in setting assessments and calculating and collecting taxes based on local government requests. Using ArcGIS Story Map, with assistance from the County Bureau of Technology, the Clerk created an interactive site that includes helpful explanations, mapping and additional websites embedded within the story map.

    Description

The USGS Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is the nation's inventory of protected areas, including public open space and voluntarily provided, private protected areas, identified as an A-16 National Geospatial Data Asset in the Cadastral Theme (http://www.fgdc.gov/ngda-reports/NGDA_Datasets.html). PAD-US is an ongoing project with several published versions of a spatial database of areas dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity, and other natural, recreational or cultural uses, managed for these purposes through legal or other effective means. The geodatabase maps and describes public open space and other protected areas. Most areas are public lands owned in fee; however, long-term easements, leases, and agreements or administrative designations documented in agency management plans may be included. The PAD-US database strives to be a complete “best available” inventory of protected areas (lands and waters) including data provided by managing agencies and organizations. The dataset is built in collaboration with several partners and data providers (http://gapanalysis.usgs.gov/padus/stewards/). See Supplemental Information Section of this metadata record for more information on partnerships and links to major partner organizations. As this dataset is a compilation of many data sets; data completeness, accuracy, and scale may vary. Federal and state data are generally complete, while local government and private protected area coverage is about 50% complete, and depends on data management capacity in the state. For completeness estimates by state: http://www.protectedlands.net/partners. As the federal and state data are reasonably complete; focus is shifting to completing the inventory of local gov and voluntarily provided, private protected areas. The PAD-US geodatabase contains over twenty-five attributes and four feature classes to support data management, queries, web mapping services and analyses: Marine Protected Areas (MPA), Fee, Easements and Combined. The data contained in the MPA Feature class are provided directly by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Marine Protected Areas Center (MPA, http://marineprotectedareas.noaa.gov ) tracking the National Marine Protected Areas System. The Easements feature class contains data provided directly from the National Conservation Easement Database (NCED, http://conservationeasement.us ) The MPA and Easement feature classes contain some attributes unique to the sole source databases tracking them (e.g. Easement Holder Name from NCED, Protection Level from NOAA MPA Inventory). The "Combined" feature class integrates all fee, easement and MPA features as the best available national inventory of protected areas in the standard PAD-US framework. In addition to geographic boundaries, PAD-US describes the protection mechanism category (e.g. fee, easement, designation, other), owner and managing agency, designation type, unit name, area, public access and state name in a suite of standardized fields. An informative set of references (i.e. Aggregator Source, GIS Source, GIS Source Date) and "local" or source data fields provide a transparent link between standardized PAD-US fields and information from authoritative data sources. The areas in PAD-US are also assigned conservation measures that assess management intent to permanently protect biological diversity: the nationally relevant "GAP Status Code" and global "IUCN Category" standard. A wealth of attributes facilitates a wide variety of data analyses and creates a context for data to be used at local, regional, state, national and international scales. More information about specific updates and changes to this PAD-US version can be found in the Data Quality Information section of this metadata record as well as on the PAD-US website, http://gapanalysis.usgs.gov/padus/data/history/.) Due to the completeness and complexity of these data, it is highly recommended to review the Supplemental Information Section of the metadata record as well as the Data Use Constraints, to better understand data partnerships as well as see tips and ideas of appropriate uses of the data and how to parse out the data that you are looking for. Dataset provided by
Lake County Illinois GIS
