Very little information is known about the distribution and abundance of snow petrels at the regional scale. This dataset contains locations of bird nests, mostly snow petrels, mapped in the Windmill Islands during the 2002-2003 season. Location of nests were recorded with handheld GPS receivers connected to a pocket PC and stored as a shapefile using Arcpad (ESRI software). Descriptive information relating to each bird nest was recorded and a detailed description of data fields is provided in the detailed description of the shapefiles.
Two observers conducted the surveys using distinct methodologies, Frederique Olivier (FO) and Drew Lee (DL). Three separate nest location files (ArcView point shapefiles) were produced and correspond to each of the survey methodologies used. Methodology 1 was the use of 200*200 m grid squares in which exhaustive searches were conducted (FO). Methodology 2 was the use of 2 transects within each the 200*200 m grid squares; methodology 3 was the use of 4 small quadrats (ca 25 m) located within the 200*200m grid squares (DL). Nests mapped in a non-systematic manner (not following a specific methodology) are clearly identified within each dataset. Datasets were kept separate due to the uncertainties caused by GPS errors (the same nest may have different locations due to GPS error).
Three separate shapefiles describe survey methodologies:
one polygon shapefile locates the 200*200 grid sites searched systematically (FO)
one polygon shapefile locates the small quadrats (DL)
one line shapefile locates line transects (DL)
Spatial characteristics, date of survey, search effort, number of nests found and other parameters are recorded for the grid sites, transect and quadrats.

Conservation lands in Lee County, Florida acquired through the Lee County Conservation 20/20 Program.
The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line File is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The Area Hydrography Shapefile contains the geometry and attributes of both perennial and intermittent area hydrography features, including ponds, lakes, oceans, swamps (up to the U.S. nautical three-mile limit), glaciers, and the area covered by large rivers, streams, and/or canals that are represented as double-line drainage. Single-line drainage water features can be found in the Linear Hydrography Shapefile (LINEARWATER.shp). Linear water features includes single-line drainage water features and artificial path features, where they exist, that run through double-line drainage features such as rivers, streams, and/or canals, and serve as a linear representation of these features.

Data in this layer is compiled from a variety of sources. Attributes have been added to distinguish the sources."LeePA Building Footprints" are created and maintained by the Lee County Property Appraiser's GIS. The geometry and attributes are extracted from their databases and combined based on the unique building key."LeePA Condo Buildings" are created from features in the Lee County Property Appraiser's parcel fabric. The geometry and attributes are extracted from their databases and combined using a variety of methods.Other buildings have been added by Lee County GIS. These are typically mobile/manufactured homes or time shares. Most mobile/manufactured homes were created using Esri's Building Footprint Extraction deep learning package and Regularize Building Footprint geoprocessing tool from 2024 aerial imagery. Additional attributes were added by Lee County GIS.
The fire district boundaries were originally sketched by the Lee County Property Appraiser. Lee County GIS has modified the boundaries along city limits where annexations and de-annexations have occurred.
2017 TIGER/LineĀ® Shapefiles: Roads
Aerial distribution surveys are used by marine mammal biologists from FWC and other agencies to determine the seasonal distribution of manatees. Most surveys are conducted from small, four-seat, high-winged airplanes (Cessna 172 or 182) flying at a height of 500-1000 ft at a speed of 70-90 kts. Small helicopters may be used instead of fixed wing aircraft in urban areas or where waters are particularly opaque and hovering may be required. Surveys are flown along a standardized, theoretical flight route, which was designed to cover all likely manatee habitats in the study area. This "theoretical flight path" indicates the area that was covered during each survey, but it may not be the actual flight route flown on every survey. GPS tracklines recorded during surveys may be available for some flights. The survey area includes most of the rivers and coastal waters of Lee County. The major bodies of water include Caloosahatchee and Orange Rivers, San Carlos and Estero Bays, Matlacha Pass and Pine Island Sound. Many undeveloped areas that are under state or federal management were part of the study area.
This dataset contains access, communications, conservation, ingress/egress, electric, utility, and miscellaneous easements.This dataset is maintained by Lee County GIS, Lee County Department of Transportation (DOT), Lee County Department of Community Development (DCD), and Lee County Utilities (LCU). Please refer to the MAINTWHO field to determine the appropriate department to contact for questions.These data are updated on a monthly basis and are mapped using legal descriptions from instruments recorded with the Lee County Clerk of the Court. This dataset is not all inclusive and represents easements Lee County GIS is cognizant of, and has had the opportunity to map. It should be used for reference purposes only. Please contact the various municipalities within Lee County to determine if they have a more representative dataset for easements within their boundaries.
