    Description

Soft Open Point (SOP) is a distribution-level power electronic device with the capability of real-time and accurate active and reactive power flow control. With the increasing amount of distributed generation (DG) integrated into electrical distribution networks, various operational problems, such as excessive power losses, over-voltage and thermal overloading issues become gradually remarkable. Using SOP is an innovative approach for power flow and voltage controls, as well as to accommodate large DG penetrations. The performance evaluation model of SOP in multi-objective operation optimization of a distribution network is developed in MATLAB, and applied to a modified 69-bus benchmark test system. This dataset contains details of the test network (topology, load, locations of SOP and DG, etc). It also contains the Pareto optimal solutions of the network operation, and the corresponding SOP optimal set-points, with DG penetration increases from 0 to 200% in the network.Research results based upon these data are published at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apenergy.2017.09.075

    Description

The performance of eight different methods to predict human volume of distribution (VDss) using a large data set (N > 100) was evaluated. The accuracy was assessed by the end points % within two-fold and absolute average fold error (AAFE). The ability to rank order was accessed by the σ and bias was examined using average fold error. Significance of observed differences was established using statistical permutation testing. The Rodgers-Lukova equation, a tissue composition model, for acids and single species scaling based on rat for other ion classes showed the best results in absence of non-rodent data. The semimechanistic Øie-Tozer model based on all thee preclinical species showed the best performance overall (81% within two-fold, AAFE 1.55, σ 0.62). This was not statistically significantly better at the 95% confidence level than the same model based on two preclinical species or single species scaling from monkey. Thus, the use of primates appears difficult to justify when the sole goal is to extrapolate human volume of distribution. Description

    Abstract

This dataset contains the results from the 2022 mid-year Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) exercise carried out in June 2022, of the UNHCR multi-purpose cash assistance in Jordan.

Jordan hosts 761,580 refugees, making it the fourth host country of refugees per capita in the world. To ensure that the basic needs of the most vulnerable are met, UNHCR provides cash assistance to recipients selected based on vulnerability criteria.

As of June 2022, cash assistance continues to have a positive effect on respondents’ psychological and financial wellbeing. In comparison to August 2021, more respondents reported that their wellbeing was improved significantly because of the programme. Just as in previous years, most respondents spent the cash assistance on basic needs, mainly rent (80%) and food (45%). While expenditure on rent has slightly increased since October 2021, fewer respondents spent the cash assistance on food, continuing a tendency of the past few years.

The percentage of respondents’ households holding debt reached 91%, the highest figure since late 2018. Meanwhile, food insecurity increased for non-Syrian and, even more substantially, for Syrian refugees, nearly closing the gap between the two groups. As most respondents could meet only half or less than half of their basic needs, many adopted coping strategies such as reducing expenditure for basic needs, buying food on credit or taking out loans. This year, 1 in 5 respondents also reported engaging in activities for money that may put their household at risk of harm, marking a 19-percentage point increase from the summer of 2021.

Feedback on UNHCR communications and treatment remains largely positive. Most recipients surveyed received the cash assistance on time and in the expected amount, and most felt that they were treated with respect. Furthermore, there was an increase by 26 percentage points from August 2021 in the share of recipients who are aware of how they can report complaints and feedback to UNHCR. However, there were substantial variations in satisfaction levels among those who contacted UNHCR in the past year, with Syrians being the most likely and Yemeni the least likely to be satisfied with the support provided.

    Sampling procedure

In June 2022, Mindset, a research firm based in Jordan, conducted 600 phone interviews with refugees whose households are receiving UNHCR basic needs cash assistance. The sample was randomly drawn from the UNHCR basic needs cash assistance recipients’ list. The respondents interviewed were briefed on the purpose of the survey before agreeing to participate and asked questions related to receiving and spending the cash assistance, associated risks and issues, prices and markets as well as outcomes of the programme using an updated version of the PDM household survey tool. The data collected is not representative of the general refugee population in Jordan as it represents only recipients participating in the cash assistance programme.

    Mode of data collection

Computer Assisted Telephone Interview [cati],Computer Assisted Personal Interview [capi]

    Research instrument

The questionnaire contained the following sections: Demographics, Receiving and spending the cash assistance (basic facts), Risks and problems, Markets and prices, Expenditure, Outcomes, Longer-Term Outcomes, Accountability to Affected Persons.

    Description

Abstract A general-purpose, self-adapting Monte Carlo (MC) event generator (simulator) Foam is described. The high efficiency of the MC, that is small maximum weight or variance of the MC weight is achieved by means of dividing the integration domain into small cells. The cells can be n-dimensional simplices, hyperrectangles or a Cartesian product of them. The grid of cells, called “foam”, is produced in the process of the binary split of the cells. The choice of the next cell to be divided and the po...

Nature of problem Monte Carlo simulation or generation of unweighted (weight equal 1) events is a standard problem in many areas of research. It is highly desirable to have in the program library a general-purpose numerical tool (program) with a MC generation algorithm featuring built-in capability of adjusting automatically the generation procedure to an arbitrary pattern of singularities in the probability distribution. Our primary goal is simulation of the differential distribution in the multiparticle Lorentz ...

    Description

This dataset describes the multi-objective design-for-control problems and presents the obtained results for two network models (modified Net25 and pescara) studied in the publication "Multi-objective branch-and-bound for the design-for-control of water distribution networks with global bounds", by Aly-Joy Ulusoy and Ivan Stoivanov. The general design-for-control problem consists in simultaneously selecting elements to be added to the existing water distribution networks (WDN) from predefined sets of candidate valves (CNV) and pipes (CNP), and optimizing the controls of new and existing pressure control valves. The problem considers the conflicting objectives of AZP (or average zone pressure, a surrogate measure of pressure induced pipe stress and leakage), I_r (or resilience index, a surrogate measure of network resilience) and cost. We refer to the main manuscript for a definition of the objective functions, problem formulation and discussion of the results of the multi-objective design-for-control problems.

The information and results provided in this dataset aim to facilitate future comparison of our work against alternative solution methods. Accordingly, we provide below, for each network model: - the .inp network model, to access using EPANET or a text editor, with characteristics of network pipes (diameter, length, roughness coefficients) and nodes (elevation, demand). Please use the provided network models (25nodes_PRVs2.inp and pescara_ed.inp) for comparison purposes, as the original models they are based on have been modified for the purpose of this study. - a description of the design-for-control problem investigated by the authors of the main manuscript and corresponding to the presented results

Finally, we refer the reader to the main manuscript for illustrations and discussions of the results.

    Description

This data set contains distribution information for all birds occurring in the Western Hemisphere. The goal of this project is to make this distributional information freely available to the public to inform conservation and other land-use decisions. A Memorandum of Understanding signed by NatureServe, The Nature Conservancy/Migratory Bird Program, Conservation International/CABS, World Wildlife Fund-US, and Environment Canada governs the development and sharing of these data.
