His first World Cup goals came 12 years earlier at the World Cup in South Korea and Japan in 2002. Robert Lewandowski stands as the undisputed goal-scoring king for Poland's national football team, with an impressive tally of 84 goals. This remarkable achievement dwarfs the second-place record held by Wlodzimierz Lubanski, who netted 44 goals during his career. Lewandowski's prowess on the field has not only etched his name in Polish football history but also elevated the team's profile on the international stage. World Cup performances and stadium attendance Poland's national team has a rich history in FIFA World Cup competitions. Prior to the 2018 tournament, Poland had participated in 31 World Cup matches, emerging victorious in 15 of them. This track record underscores the team's competitive spirit on the global stage. The passion for football in Poland is further evidenced by impressive attendance figures at national team matches. In 2024, the highest attendance was recorded during a match against Portugal, drawing over 56,000 fans to PGE Narodowy in Warsaw. Home grounds and historic crowds The Polish national team has played its home matches across various stadiums, with Stadion Śląski in Chorzow hosting the most games at 47. Interestingly, among the top 20 most frequented stadiums, six are located in Warsaw. The team's ability to draw massive crowds is highlighted by the all-time attendance record set on September 14, 1958, when 110,000 spectators packed the stadium in Chorzow for a match against Hungary. This enduring support demonstrates the deep-rooted football culture in Poland.

Here are a few use cases for this project:
Sports Analytics: The Soccer Players computer vision model can be used to analyze player performance during games by tracking player and ball positions, individual player actions, and goal-scoring events, allowing coaches and trainers to make data-driven decisions for improving performance and strategies.
Automated Highlight Reels: The model can be used to automatically curate soccer match highlights by identifying crucial moments such as goals, outstanding player performances, and referee decisions. This can streamline the video editing process for broadcasting and streaming companies.
Virtual Assistant for Soccer Enthusiasts: The Soccer Players model can be integrated into a mobile application, allowing users to take pictures or upload images from soccer matches and receive instant information about the teams (USA, NED), player roles (goalie, outfield player, referee), and other relevant classes such as ball and goal locations, enhancing their understanding and engagement with the sport.
Real-Time Augmented Reality (AR) Applications: The model can be used to create AR experiences for soccer fans attending live matches, providing pop-up information about players (such as player stats, team affiliations, etc.) and game events (goals, referee decisions) when viewing the live match through an AR device or smartphone.
Training and Scouting Tools: Soccer scouts and trainers can use the Soccer Players model to evaluate potential recruits or assess the performance of their own players during practice sessions. By rapidly identifying key actions (goals, saves, tackles) and providing context for each play, the model can help scouts and trainers make informed decisions faster.

Goals galore The highest ever goals to game ratio was set during the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland, where an average of 5.38 goals were scored in each of the 26 games. Some of the highest scoring games during this tournament included Austria 7-5 Switzerland and Hungary 9-0 South Korea. The honor of the World Cup's all time top goal scorer belongs to Germany's Miroslav Klose. The iconic striker scored a total of 16 goals across four World Cups, with his 16th and record-breaking goal coming in Germany's semi-final demolition of Brazil in 2014.
Goal droughts At the other end of the scale, the 1990 World Cup had the fewest average goals per match, with the ball hitting the back of the net 115 times in 52 matches, or around 2.21 goals per game. The fewest goals scored in a single tournament stands at 70, which occurred at the first two World Cups in 1930 and 1934. This can be explained by the fact that only 13 and 16 teams respectively took part in the finals, and so fewer games were played overall.

Hydrographic and Impairment Statistics (HIS) is a National Park Service (NPS) Water Resources Division (WRD) project established to track certain goals created in response to the Government Performance and Results Act of 1993 (GPRA). One water resources management goal established by the Department of the Interior under GRPA requires NPS to track the percent of its managed surface waters that are meeting Clean Water Act (CWA) water quality standards. This goal requires an accurate inventory that spatially quantifies the surface water hydrography that each bureau manages and a procedure to determine and track which waterbodies are or are not meeting water quality standards as outlined by Section 303(d) of the CWA. This project helps meet this DOI GRPA goal by inventorying and monitoring in a geographic information system for the NPS: (1) CWA 303(d) quality impaired waters and causes; and (2) hydrographic statistics based on the United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). Hydrographic and 303(d) impairment statistics were evaluated based on a combination of 1:24,000 (NHD) and finer scale data (frequently provided by state GIS layers).
