    Some tables have been withdrawn and replaced. The table index for this statistical series has been updated to provide a full map between the old and new numbering systems used in this page.

    Tables VEH0101 and VEH1104 have not yet been revised to include the recent changes to Large Goods Vehicles (LGV) and Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) definitions for data earlier than 2023 quarter 4. This will be amended as soon as possible.

    How to use CSV files

    CSV files can be used either as a spreadsheet (using Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet packages) or digitally using software packages and languages (for example, R or Python).

    When using as a spreadsheet, there will be no formatting, but the file can still be explored like our publication tables. Due to their size, older software might not be able to open the entire file.

    Click “Export” on the right to download the vehicle trajectory data. The associated metadata and additional data can be downloaded below under "Attachments". Researchers for the Next Generation Simulation (NGSIM) program collected detailed vehicle trajectory data on southbound US 101 and Lankershim Boulevard in Los Angeles, CA, eastbound I-80 in Emeryville, CA and Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia. Data was collected through a network of synchronized digital video cameras. NGVIDEO, a customized software application developed for the NGSIM program, transcribed the vehicle trajectory data from the video. This vehicle trajectory data provided the precise location of each vehicle within the study area every one-tenth of a second, resulting in detailed lane positions and locations relative to other vehicles.     Recent trends in new vehicle registrations have been heavily affected by the measures implemented from March 2020 onwards to limit the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

    During April to June 2022, in the United Kingdom, there were:

    • 532,000 vehicles registered for the first time
    • 79,000 plug-in vehicles registered for the first time

    At the end of June 2022, there were:

    • 40.7 million licensed vehicles in the United Kingdom
