    Description

As announced on 7 June 2022, this will be the final publication of the Weekly Statistics for NHS Test and Trace (England). In line with the Government’s ‘Living with COVID-19’ strategy, most free testing in England ended on 1 April 2022. The subsequent reduction in testing numbers and across use cases has resulted in a reduction in the breadth of the statistics publication. Information relating to testing is available on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) dashboard.

The data reflects the NHS Test and Trace operation in England since its launch on 28 May 2020.

    This includes 2 weekly reports:

    1. NHS Test and Trace statistics:

    • people tested for coronavirus (COVID-19)
    • people testing positive for COVID-19
    • time taken for test results to become available
    • people transferred to the contact tracing system and the time taken for them to be reached
    • close contacts identified for cases managed and not managed by local health protection teams (HPTs), and time taken for them to be reached

    2. Rapid asymptomatic testing statistics: number of lateral flow device (LFD) tests reported by test result.

There are 3 sets of data tables accompanying the reports.

    Description

These reports summarise the surveillance of influenza, COVID-19 and other seasonal respiratory illnesses.

Weekly findings from community, primary care, secondary care and mortality surveillance systems are included in the reports.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, for the 2020 to 2021 season the weekly reports will be published all year round.

This page includes reports published from 8 October 2020 to the 8 July 2021.

Due to a misclassification of 2 subgroups within the Asian and Asian British and Black and Black British ethnic categories, the proportions of deaths for these ethnic categories in reports published between week 27 2021 and week 29 2021 were incorrect. These have been corrected from week 30 2021 report onwards.

The impact of the correction specifically affects the proportion of deaths with an Asian and Asian British and/or Black and Black British ethnic categories. The total number of deaths reported was unaffected. Other ethnicity data included in the reports were not affected by this issue.

Previous reports on influenza surveillance are also available for:

From 15 July this report will be available at National flu and COVID-19 surveillance reports: 2021 to 2022 season.

    Description

REACT-1 is the largest population surveillance study being undertaken in England that examines the prevalence of the virus causing COVID-19 in the general population. It uses test results and feedback from over 150,000 participants each month.

The study focuses on national, regional and local areas, as well as age, sex, ethnicity, socio-economic factors, employment type, contact with known cases, symptoms and other factors.

The findings will provide the government with a better understanding of the virus’s transmission and the risks associated with different population subgroups throughout England. This will inform government policies to protect health and save lives.

    Description

REACT-2 is a world largest surveillance study undertaken in England that examines the prevalence of antibodies in the community. The study focusses on finger prick self-testing at home by individuals aged 18 or over.

The findings will provide the government with a better understanding of the use of antibody tests at home as well as assess the trends in antibody levels and how they vary across different population subgroups. This will inform government policies to protect health and save lives.

In this publication 3 rounds of test results and feedback were compared to identify potential antibody waning.
