    Description

This dataset brings together anonymized records for over 300,000 international graduates—combining graduate‐outcomes survey data with visa, language, and academic information—to enable predictive analysis of:

Employment Status: Build classifiers (e.g., Logistic Regression, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting) to forecast whether a graduate is employed, unemployed, or continuing education.

Salary Estimation: Train regression models (Linear, Ridge, Lasso) to estimate annual salary for those employed.

By exploring how Education Level, Field of Study, Language Proficiency, Visa Type, University Ranking, and other socio-demographic factors jointly influence post-graduation success, this dataset supports:

Feature Analysis: Quantify the relative importance of visa category vs. language-test scores vs. GPA, and uncover non-linear interactions (e.g., “Master’s + high IELTS score + long-duration visa”).

    Policy & Institutional Insight:

Inform visa-policy recommendations by measuring the impact of post-study work rights on employability.

Guide universities in targeting language or internship programs to maximize graduate placement rates.

Dashboarding & Visualization: Pre-built Power BI dashboards illustrate trends such as salary distributions by field, employment rates by visa category, and language-impact across sectors.

High school graduates in their twenties have consistently experienced a higher unemployment rate than college graduates in the same age range. However, the unemployment gap between the two education groups has recently narrowed, reaching its lowest level since the late 1970s. This Economic Commentary shows that this narrowing coincides with a decades-long decline, one that began around 2000, in the job-finding rate among young college graduates.

BIS regularly conducts internal analysis of the Labour Force Survey (LFS). The most recent LFS release (January to March 2014) shows the employment prospects for young English graduates (aged 18 to 30) are looking bright. Their employment rate is at its highest level since the figures for April to June 2008. The young graduate high-skilled employment rate is at its highest level in nearly 5 years. Graduates also continue to earn significantly more than do non-graduates.

Details can be found in the attached documents. All figures are for England only. Source: BIS analysis of Labour Force Survey microdata, January to March 2014.
