The NSW Rest Areas dataset provides information on rest area sites managed by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and other authorities, including local councils and the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). The dataset includes details such as the rest area name, vehicle category, access direction, and different facilities, e.g. toilets, picnic tables, playground etc., that are available at each site.\r \r \r The dataset does not include TfNSW managed inspection bays.\r \r \r In June 2025, 45 additional rest areas were added to the dataset and 4 rest areas were removed. There have been data changes to the following attributes: access_direction, access_direction_cardinal, bbq, carriageway_code, carriageway_configuration, category, disabled_toilet, distance_from, driver_reviver, food_available, fuel_available, latitude, lga, link_no, litter_bins, longitude, ne_unique, picnic_table, playground, region, responsible_authority, rest_area_name, road_name, road_number, shelter, side_of_road, site_status, suburb, toilets.\r \r \r The NSW Rest Areas dataset can be queried by API for use by the public and industry.\r \r API will only provide extracts in JSON and GeoJSON format.
