This dataset is part of the Geographical repository maintained by Opendatasoft. This dataset contains data for regions in the United Kingdom.Government offices for the regions (GOR) were established across England in 1994. Reflecting a number of government departments, their aim was to work in partnership with local people and organisations in order to maximise prosperity and the quality of life within their area. In 1996 the GORs became the primary classification for the presentation of regional statistics. GORs were built up of complete counties/unitary authorities, so although they were subject to change, they always reflected administrative boundaries as at the end of the previous year. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were not subdivided into GORs but are listed with them as regions in UK-wide statistical comparisons. After the Comprehensive Spending Review, it was confirmed that the GORs would close on 31 March 2011, shifting focus away from regions to local areas. However, there is still a requirement to maintain a region-level geography for statistical purposes. This file contains the digital vector boundaries for Regions in England as at December 2024.

The boundaries available are: Generalised Clipped (BGC) - Generalised to 20m and clipped to the coastline (Mean High Water mark) and more generalised than the BFE boundaries.

This dataset provides a 1km resolution raster (gridded) coverage of wooded areas in riparian zones (river- or streamsides) across Great Britain. The areas classified as riparian in this dataset are defined by a 50 metre buffer applied to the CEH 1:50000 watercourse network. Wooded areas within this zone are identified as those classified by the Land Cover Map of Great Britain 2007 as either coniferous or deciduous woodland. The data are aggregated to a 1km resolution. This data shows the local authority districts, council areas (Scotland) and unitary authorities for Great Britain. The attached Layer File can be used to symbolise the different types of boundaries. A JPEG image of the map is also contained in the download. This dataset was made from the OS OpenData Boundary Line product http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/products/boundary-line/index.html. GIS vector data. This dataset was first accessioned in the EDINA ShareGeo Open repository on 2012-05-10 and migrated to Edinburgh DataShare on 2017-02-21.

This is an Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) host map for Great Britain at the 1 km x 1 km scale. The units are in terms of ha or ash per 1km x 1km grid square. There are 100 ha in 1km x 1 km, so this can be thought of as a percent.
It was created generating a 20m x 20m land use layer based on the UKCEH Land Cover Map for 2019, deriving areas of broadleaved tree cover for each cell of the land use layer and estimating the percentage of ash within broadleaf, which were assigned dependent on land use and region (see more details about the methods in data preparation and processing activities). The percentage of ash and area of broadleaf trees were combined to give an area of ash for each land use in cell and this was aggregated (summed) across all land use types to give a 1km by 1km ash area map.

The dataset consists of a distribution map of ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior) within woodland areas of less than half a hectare across Great Britain. The data is derived from Countryside Survey 2007. Trees were mapped in 569 1km sample squares across Britain, and this national estimate dataset was derived from the sample data using ITE Land Classes.
