Future Secondary Plan Areas in Grey County from 2018 Official Plan, Schedule A.
Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) measures the return time of a laser light to reflect off objects on the ground to determine surface and ground elevations and topography. Grey County acquired LiDAR for the Georgian Bay lake fringe watersheds of Grey County in 2019 in collaboration with the Grey Sauble Conservation Authority and the Town of the Blue Mountains.
This LiDAR elevation data is publicly available for non-commercial use to agencies such as any municipality, contractor working for a member municipality or a partner(s) for a specific project, educational institution, non-profit agency or individual for research purposes. Any agency who use the data for commercial use can purchase the data at a cost of $250 per 1 square kilometer tile. The data includes Calibrated and Classified Raw Data in LAS format, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) grid files in elevation (TIF format) with cell size of 1m, Digital Surface Model (DSM) grid files in elevation (TIF format) with cell size of 1m, and 0.5m contours (SHP format).
You can view the coverage area and make a request to acquire the data by completing the web form linked below:
Grey County LiDAR Data Request Form
Requests anywhere within the Town of the Blue Mountains should be directed to gismaps@thebluemountains.ca. You can also find more information about requesting LiDAR data for the Town of Blue Mountains linked below:
Pre-amalgamation townships in Grey CountyThe boundaries represent the townships prior to Amalgamation details. (2001), referred to as geographic townships. The boundaries are sometimes still used for local communities; although, they will not reflect changes made to the amalgamated townships boundaries.

LIST Topographic Gray Scale Basemap The LIST Topographic Grey Scale Basemap is a multi-scaled grey scale base for many diverse applications requiring topographic data. It is intended to allow users to overlay GIS information to a grey mapping base allowing better depiction and emphasis on focus data. The LIST Topographic Grey Scale Basemap is derived from the LIST Topographic Basemap with grey scale filter applied. The basemap is updated regularly from the best available LIST authoritative spatial data, and features 19 scale levels from 1:591,657,550 up to 1:1,128. The LIST Topographic Grey Scale Basemap incorporates data from the following LIST datasets: - Address Points - Buildings - Cadastral Parcels - Coastline (MHWM) - Community Facilities - Contours - Hydrographic - Infrastructure - Landform - Locality - Nomenclature - Spot Heights - Survey Control - Transport - Vegetation Each scale level shows a different level of detail, attribution and annotation. The multi-scale basemap allows users to "zoom in" to the next scale level for further detail and information, or alternatively "zoom out" for a broader overview. Note: Macquarie Island has been compiled from data originally sourced from Geoscience Australia.

The trails within Grey County Forests are enjoyed by both visitors and local residents. Various forest properties are used for recreational activities such as, hunting, mountain biking, hiking, walking, birding, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.
Potential foraging habitat for Great Grey Owl (GGO) is paraphrased by Fish and Game (Tom Beck et al) as >=10 acres foraging habitat within a ½ mile radius circle of a potential nest site. This shapefile represents output from a geoprocessing model that extracts potential nesting areas from land cover data along with their associated foraging areas according to the above search criteria. Habitat Criteria: Foraging: CALVEG/EVEG WHR_Types Wet Meadow, Annual Grassland, Perennial Grassland. Nesting: Conifer forest WHR size 4M and larger/denser. Suggested Usage: This dataset is meant to be a scoping tool for investigation into possible Great Grey Owl presence. This dataset is broad in scope, and does not include potentially pertinent factors in determining Great Grey Owl nesting sites. These factors may include elevation, aspect, slope, precipitation, shape and orientation of nesting and foraging areas, and other ground conditions. Analyzing this dataset overlaying data such as Digital Elevation Models, Existing Vegetation Land Cover, Aerial Imagery and Topographic Maps may enhance the users ability to determine habitat potential strong enough for further field investigation. Exception: For the current version of this dataset, area within the CALVEG ecological zone "Central Valley" at elevation of less than 1500 feet was excluded from model processing because although inconclusive, there is no current evidence that Great Grey Owls are nesting below 1500 feet in California. This metric and model result may change based on new information as it becomes available (CDFG, 2011).

Note: The NSW database of flying-fox camps is no longer maintained.
An interactive flying-fox web viewer hosted by the Australian Government Department of the Environment and Energy has been developed to visually present data from the National Flying-fox Monitoring Programme.
The viewer allows users to explore flying-fox camps and the numbers of each species counted over time. This information spans the data gathered from November 2012 to present.
http://www.environment.gov.au/webgis-framework/apps/ffc-wide/ffc-wide.jsf
See below for superseded data description; this dataset is no longer updated as of 25/10/16.
This dataset contains information on grey-headed and black flying-fox camp locations for coastal New South Wales and notes whether little red flying-foxes are also present. The data represents locations that have been used by grey-headed flying-foxes or black flying-foxes since 1990. Flying-foxes change their use of these areas from season to season and year to year. Few sites will be occupied continuously, and some may only be used every few years. The use of sites by flying-foxes will generally reflect the availability of native food (pollen and fruits of native trees). It is intended to be indicative of the location of such camps and is not exact.
The majority of camp locations were documented during range-wide surveys of grey-headed flying-foxes conducted from 1998 to 2004. The dataset provides presence/absence data only, ie. it does not include abundance estimates.
The flying-fox camp database is an Excel spreadsheet which contains AMG Zone 56 Eastings and Northings. The spreadsheet has been converted to a point locality GIS layer (ESRI shapefile) via these coordinates but then reprojected to GDA GCS. The AMG coordinates in the table have also been converted to MGA coordinates.
An accompanying polygon shapefile is also provided for camp boundaries. Camp boundaries are only present if the coverage of the camp is known. There was no set cut off size however all boundaries would be >10x10m. Camp dimensions and boundaries vary through time with changing population size and movement of animals around the site. The boundaries provided are the greatest extent documented and are not static.
In 2006/7 DEC engaged a contractor to update the Grey-headed Flying-fox (GHFF) and the Black Flying-fox (BFF) database for NSW. The current dataset contains information on the locations of camps known to be used by grey-headed flying-foxes as of April 2008.
Please note that users should refer to the Wildlife Atlas (and any other datasets) to obtain the latest information.
