    Description

In Europe, the Baltic countries of Latvia and Lithuania had the highest and third highest homicide rates respectively in 2022. Latvia had the highest rate at over four per 100,000 inhabitants. Meanwhile, the lowest homicide rate was found in Liechtenstein, with zero murders The most dangerous country worldwide Saint Kitts and Nevis is the world's most dangerous country to live in in terms of murder rate. The Caribbean country had a homicide rate of 65 per 100,000 inhabitants. Nine of the 10 countries with the highest murder rates worldwide are located in Latin America and the Caribbean. Whereas Celaya in Mexico was listed as the city with the highest murder rate worldwide, Colima in Mexico was the city with the highest homicide rate in Latin America, so the numbers vary from source to source. Nevertheless, several Mexican cities rank among the deadliest in the world when it comes to intentional homicides. Violent conflicts worldwide Notably, these figures do not include deaths that resulted from war or a violent conflict. While there is a persistent number of conflicts worldwide, resulting casualties are not considered murders. Partially due to this reason, homicide rates in Latin America are higher than those in countries such as Ukraine or the DR Congo. A different definition of murder in these circumstances could change the rate significantly.

In Europe in 2019, England and Wales had the highest reported rate of serious assaults per 100,000 inhabitants, with almost 930 reported incidents. Belgium had the second highest rate with close to 560. Romania had the lowest rate of reported serious assaults, with only 1.46 per 100,000 inhabitant, followed by Lithuania and Albania. Despite this low rate of assault, Lithuania, Albania and Romania had some of the highest homicide rates in Europe, suggesting that there is a discrepancy in how often assaults are reported in these countries, or the methodology behind data collection.

Turks and Caicos Islands saw a murder rate of ***** per 100,000 inhabitants, making it the most dangerous country for this kind of crime worldwide as of 2024. Interestingly, El Salvador, which long had the highest global homicide rates, has dropped out of the top 29 after a high number of gang members have been incarcerated. Meanwhile, Colima in Mexico was the most dangerous city for murders. Violent conflicts worldwide Notably, these figures do not include deaths that resulted from war or a violent conflict. While there is a persistent number of conflicts worldwide, resulting casualties are not considered murders. Partially due to this reason, homicide rates in Latin America are higher than those in Afghanistan or Syria. A different definition of murder in these circumstances could change the rate significantly in some countries. Causes of death Also, noteworthy is that murders are usually not random events. In the United States, the circumstances of murders are most commonly arguments, followed by narcotics incidents and robberies. Additionally, murders are not a leading cause of death. Heart diseases, strokes and cancer pose a greater threat to life than violent crime.

    Description

Mortality rate from firearms includes homicides, suicides, accidental deaths, deaths by law enforcement, and deaths for which intent was undetermined. Mortality rate is based on the location of residence and has been age-adjusted to the 2000 U.S. standard population. ICD 10 codes used to identify firearm deaths are W32-W34, X72-X74, X93-X95, Y22-Y24, Y35.0, and U01.4. Single-year data are only available for Los Angeles County overall, Service Planning Areas, Supervisorial Districts, City of Los Angeles overall, and City of Los Angeles Council Districts.Violence is a public health crisis in the US, with gun violence being a major driver. In the US, the age-adjusted homicide rate from firearms is more than 20 times higher than in the European Union or in Australia. Significant disparities by age, sex, and race and ethnicity exist, with young adults (ages 15-34 years), males, and Black individuals most disproportionately impacted. Firearm-related suicides disproportionately impact older, White men. Comprehensive prevention strategies should work to address underlying physical, social, economic, and structural conditions known to increase risk. For more information about the Community Health Profiles Data Initiative, please see the initiative homepage.

    Description

The research project is a subproject of the research association “Strengthening of integration potentials within a modern society” (Scientific head: Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Heitmeyer, Bielefeld) which contains 17 subprojects and is supported by the ministry of education and research. In almost all the economically highly developed countries violent crime increased significantly in the second part of the last century - in contrast to the long term trend of decline of individual (non-governmental) violence since the beginning of modern times. The authors develop an explanatory approach for these facts which is inspired mainly by Norbert Elias´s civilization theory and Emil Durkheim´s theory on society. Detailed time series on the development of different forms of violent crime are presented and set in relation with certain aspects of economic and social structural changes in three countries and also refer to the changes in integration of modern societies. The analysis deals especially with effectivity and legitimacy of the governmental monopoly of violence, the public beneficial security and power system, forms of building social capital, economic and social inequality, precarity of employment, different aspects of increasing economization of society, changes in family structures and usage of mass media and modern communication technologies. Description

The global small arms market is a dynamic and significant sector, driven by factors such as escalating geopolitical instability, rising crime rates, and increasing demand for self-defense weapons among civilians. The market, segmented by weapon type (revolvers & pistols, rifles & carbines, assault rifles, sub-machine guns, light machine guns) and application (civil, military, law enforcement), exhibits robust growth, estimated at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5% from 2025 to 2033. While precise market sizing data is unavailable, industry reports suggest a 2025 market valuation in the tens of billions of dollars, with North America and Europe holding the largest market shares due to established gun cultures and robust law enforcement budgets. Key players such as Smith & Wesson, Sturm, Ruger & Co., and Colt’s Manufacturing dominate the landscape, leveraging advanced manufacturing techniques and technological innovations to enhance weapon performance and appeal to diverse customer segments. Growth is further propelled by continuous technological advancements, leading to the development of more accurate, reliable, and lightweight small arms. However, the market faces significant restraints, primarily stringent government regulations on firearm sales and ownership, particularly in certain regions, and growing public awareness of gun violence. Furthermore, economic fluctuations can impact consumer spending on firearms, especially in the civilian segment. The ongoing evolution of the market necessitates a strategic approach from manufacturers focusing on product diversification, technological innovation, and strategic partnerships to navigate regulatory hurdles and maintain competitiveness in a fiercely competitive global arena. Regional variations in market growth will be shaped by local regulations, socio-political climates, and economic conditions, with regions experiencing conflicts or political unrest showing higher demand for military and law enforcement applications.

    Description

The global stun gun market is experiencing robust growth, driven by increasing concerns about personal safety and escalating crime rates worldwide. The market, currently valued at approximately $500 million in 2025, is projected to exhibit a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8% from 2025 to 2033, reaching an estimated market value exceeding $1 billion by 2033. This growth is fueled by several key factors. The rising demand for self-defense tools among civilians, particularly women, is a significant driver. Furthermore, increasing adoption of stun guns by law enforcement and private security personnel contributes substantially to market expansion. Technological advancements, such as the development of more compact and user-friendly stun guns with added features like flashlights, are also boosting market appeal. Different segments within the market are demonstrating varied growth trajectories. The compact handheld stun gun segment currently dominates, but flashlight stun guns are showing faster growth due to their added functionality. Geographically, North America and Europe are leading markets, owing to higher awareness and greater disposable incomes. However, Asia-Pacific is expected to witness the highest growth rate in the coming years, driven by rising urbanization and increasing personal safety concerns. Despite this positive outlook, certain restraints such as stringent regulations and potential safety concerns regarding misuse may somewhat temper growth. The competitive landscape is moderately concentrated, with key players like SABRE, Oberon-Alpha, Guard Dog, and Vipertek vying for market share through product innovation, branding, and distribution strategies. The market is witnessing increased diversification in product offerings, with manufacturers introducing innovative features and designs to meet diverse consumer needs. Future growth will depend on overcoming regulatory hurdles, enhancing product safety features, and raising consumer awareness about responsible stun gun use. A focus on technological improvements, targeted marketing campaigns, and strategic partnerships will be crucial for sustained growth in the stun gun market. The market is expected to continue its upward trajectory, driven by the enduring need for effective and accessible personal safety solutions.

This demand is further fueled by factors such as rising crime rates in certain regions, political instability in some areas, and a growing preference for self-reliance among consumers. The market is segmented by rifle type (light, standard, heavy) and application (hunting, shooting sports, self-defense), with the self-defense application segment exhibiting particularly strong growth. Considering the provided data and industry trends, we can reasonably estimate the 2025 market size to be approximately $2.5 billion USD, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 6% projected through 2033. This signifies a substantial market expansion and significant investment opportunities within the sector. This growth is not uniform across all regions. North America, particularly the United States, currently holds the largest market share due to high gun ownership rates and a strong culture of self-defense. However, increasing demand is observed in other regions as well, particularly in countries experiencing social or political instability. Europe and Asia-Pacific markets are projected to see notable growth, driven by factors such as increased awareness of personal safety and the rising popularity of shooting sports. The market's growth, however, faces certain restraints including stricter gun control regulations in some countries and rising manufacturing costs. This necessitates manufacturers to focus on innovative designs, enhanced features, and efficient supply chain management to navigate these challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

    Description

Civil Small Caliber Ammunition Market Outlook

The global civil small caliber ammunition market size was valued at approximately USD 6.5 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach USD 9.8 billion by 2032, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.1% during the forecast period. The increase in market size is largely driven by rising civilian participation in recreational activities such as hunting and sports shooting, along with heightened concerns around personal security, which are fueling demand for small caliber ammunition.

One of the key growth factors for the civil small caliber ammunition market is the expanding interest and participation in hunting and sports shooting across various age groups. This trend is especially prominent in countries like the United States, Canada, and several European nations where hunting seasons attract significant attention and where sports shooting is often integrated into recreational and social activities. Additionally, the establishment of shooting ranges and clubs has made these activities more accessible to enthusiasts, thus driving the demand for ammunition.

Another significant driver is the growing awareness and concern for personal security, which has led to an increase in the acquisition of firearms for self-defense purposes. In various parts of the world, especially in North America, an increasing number of civilians are purchasing firearms for home and personal protection. This trend is expected to sustain the demand for small caliber ammunition, particularly for handguns, which are commonly used for self-defense. Furthermore, the rising crime rates in some regions have also contributed to the growth in this segment.

Moreover, governmental policies and initiatives that promote lawful firearm ownership and usage contribute to market growth. In several countries, regulatory frameworks are becoming more supportive of civilian firearm ownership, provided that the required legal and safety standards are met. This policy environment not only encourages responsible firearm ownership but also boosts the sales of small caliber ammunition. Additionally, the advancement of ammunition technology, including the development of non-lead and eco-friendly ammunition, is attracting environmentally conscious consumers, further propelling market growth.

In the context of growing personal security concerns, the role of Civilian Self Defense Weapons has become increasingly significant. These weapons, often including handguns and other small firearms, are primarily acquired for personal protection. The trend is particularly noticeable in regions with high crime rates, where individuals seek to ensure their safety through self-defense measures. This has led to a notable rise in the purchase of small caliber ammunition, as civilians aim to equip themselves adequately. The market for these weapons and their corresponding ammunition is expected to grow as more people prioritize personal security in their daily lives. This shift not only influences consumer behavior but also impacts the regulatory landscape, as governments balance the need for public safety with the rights of individuals to protect themselves.

Regionally, North America is anticipated to dominate the market due to its high number of firearm owners and well-established hunting and shooting culture. The U.S. alone accounts for a significant share of the global market due to its permissive firearm laws and high civilian ownership rates. Europe follows suit with its robust market primarily driven by countries like Germany and the Nordic nations where hunting is a traditional activity. The Asia Pacific region is expected to experience notable growth as well, driven by increasing disposable incomes and a rising interest in recreational shooting activities.

    Product Type Analysis

Handgun ammunition forms a significant segment within the civil small caliber ammunition market, supported by the prevalent use of handguns for personal protection and law enforcement training. Handgun ammunition includes various calibers such as .22LR, 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP, each catering to different needs and preferences. The demand is primarily driven by individuals purchasing handguns for self-defense, which is a significant trend in countries with lenient firearm regulations. Law enforcement agencies also contribute to this demand through their training programs that require constant ammunition supplies for practice and qualifying exams.

Concern with brain drain is not limited to developing countries. It arose during the dot com period in a number of European countries in the late 1990s when it was feared that many high technology graduates were leaving their home countries for high-paying jobs elsewhere, especially in the United States. It arises periodically when statistics are published on international students abroad or on the emigration of highly educated persons. Rarely evoked are the gains from immigration of the highly educated. The figures in the table show, as a percentage of the total number of residents with tertiary education, the number of foreign-born persons living in each country, and the number of persons with tertiary education born in the country but living in another OECD country. Tertiary education programmes include those that terminate with standard university degrees but also cover shorter university programmes and high-level practical/technical/occupationally specific education programmes that are geared to direct entry into the labour market. Tertiary attainment means completion of a tertiary education programme with a recognised qualification; persons partially completing a level are classified in the previous level attained. data was found online at: http://miranda.sourceoecd.org/vl=1552947/cl=19/nw=1/rpsv/factbook/12-03-03.htm

    Description

The global stun gun market is experiencing robust growth, driven by increasing concerns about personal safety and rising crime rates. The market, valued at approximately $250 million in 2025, is projected to exhibit a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7% from 2025 to 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key factors. Firstly, the escalating demand for personal safety devices, particularly among women and elderly individuals, is a significant driver. Secondly, the increasing adoption of stun guns by private security companies (PSCs) and law enforcement agencies is contributing to market growth. While the market faces some restraints, such as stringent regulations and safety concerns surrounding misuse, the overall outlook remains positive. The continued innovation in stun gun technology and the growing awareness of personal safety are likely to outweigh these challenges, ensuring sustained market expansion in the coming years. The segmentation of the stun gun market reveals significant opportunities. Compact handheld stun guns maintain dominance due to their portability and ease of use. However, the flashlight stun gun segment is experiencing rapid growth, driven by its dual functionality and enhanced safety features. Key players like SABRE, OBERON-ALPHA, Guard Dog, and VIPERTEK are leveraging technological innovation and brand recognition to maintain their market positions. Competitive pressures are forcing these companies to continuously improve product features, expand distribution networks, and offer compelling pricing strategies. Description

The global firearms (small arms) market is a significant sector characterized by diverse applications and a complex interplay of factors influencing its growth. While precise figures for market size and CAGR are not provided, a reasonable estimation can be made based on industry trends. Considering the substantial investments in military and law enforcement globally, coupled with a persistent demand from the civilian market (hunting, sport shooting, self-defense), the market size in 2025 is estimated to be around $15 billion USD. A conservative Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 4% over the forecast period (2025-2033) is projected, driven primarily by increased military spending in certain regions, rising concerns about personal safety, and technological advancements in firearms manufacturing leading to improved accuracy, durability, and lighter-weight designs. Significant regional variations exist, with North America and Europe holding substantial market shares due to established firearm industries and a robust civilian market. However, the Asia-Pacific region, particularly countries like India and China, is expected to witness significant growth due to increasing defense budgets and a growing civilian firearm market (subject to stringent regulations). Restrictive legislation in certain regions, coupled with concerns surrounding gun violence and safety, act as key restraints to overall market expansion. The market is segmented by firearm type (revolvers & pistols, rifles & carbines, assault rifles, etc.) and application (civil, military, law enforcement). Competitive landscape is dominated by established players like Sturm, Ruger & Co., Smith & Wesson, Glock, and FN Herstal, along with regional manufacturers playing crucial roles within specific markets. The growth trajectory of the firearms market is likely to be influenced by geopolitical instability, economic fluctuations, and evolving regulatory landscapes. Increased demand from conflict zones and regions facing internal security challenges will likely contribute to growth. Technological innovation in materials science and firearm design is also expected to play a role. However, sustained efforts to reduce gun violence and strengthen gun control legislation in various countries will act as a counter-force. The market's future will be a delicate balance between these opposing trends, making accurate forecasting challenging, but pointing toward a moderately growing market over the next decade. Further segmentation based on caliber, ammunition type, and advanced features (e.g., smart guns) will likely emerge as significant factors in the coming years.
