Between 2000 and 2012, there was a net decrease of 300 murder cases a year in Germany, but in recent years that trend has been reversed, with 2018 showing the largest year-on-year increase in this time period.

In 2023, there were 29 children under the age of 14 murdered in Germany. This was an increase of three compared with the year before. Seven children between the ages of 14 and 17 were murdered that same year.
