This table contains information about developments in turnover in the branch Hairdressers and beauty treatment (ISIC 2008 code 9602). Turnover value and volume are presented. The data can further be divided by a number of branches according to Statistics Netherlands' Standard Industrial Classification of all Economic Activities 2008 (ISIC 2008). The results are expressed in terms of indices with base year 2015. This table contains figures on year-on-year and seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter changes. Data available from: 1st quarter 2005. Status of the figures: All figures in the table are final. Changes as of May 29, 2024: The 2023 figures have been updated. Due to the government measures related to the corona virus, some services were not or only to a limited extent available in the first quarter of 2021. As a result, for some of these services, there were no transactions for which prices could be measured. The lack of sufficient transactions is the reason why volume figures are not published for some branches. When will new figures be published? No longer applicable. This table was discontinued following the five-year base shift as of May 31, 2024 and was succeeded by a new table (see Trade and Services table in Section 3).

The hair salon industry has seen steady growth, driven by a recovering economy and the rise of per capita disposable income. As consumers recover financially, discretionary spending on grooming services has gained momentum, reflecting enhanced consumer confidence. Innovations in hair products, including blow-dry and hair extension bars, have diversified salons' revenue streams. Concurrently, the sector's engagement with technology—via social media and online booking systems—enhances customer relations and convenience, positioning salons to better tap into tech-savvy clientele. These trends caused revenue to rise at a CAGR of 0.5% to an estimated $60.4 billion over the past five years while inching upward an anticipated 1.9% in 2024. In recent years, profitability within the sector has remained steady due to various strategic moves. Salons have adapted by introducing high-value services like specialized hair coloring and keratin treatments, which command higher prices than traditional haircuts. Wage expenses have been significant, reflecting the industry's emphasis on skilled personnel to deliver top-tier customer service. Stable economic conditions enhance disposable incomes, enabling consumers to splurge more on personal grooming services and bolstering profit. The next few years promise further expansion and innovation for the hair salon industry. An improving economy and favorable demographic trends suggest continued growth. As per capita disposable income grows, people are likely to further invest in self-care routines, driving a consistent customer stream. Sustainability trends like energy-efficient appliances and organic products will attract eco-conscious customers. Technology will remain pivotal; digital tools for booking and consultations streamline operations and enhance customer satisfaction. Over the next five years, the industry is expected to grow steadily, with revenue inching upward at a CAGR of 1.2% to an estimated $64.0 billion at the end of 2029.

The global hair salon software market is experiencing robust growth, driven by increasing demand for efficient salon management tools and the rising adoption of technology within the beauty industry. The market, estimated at $1.5 billion in 2025, is projected to witness a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12% from 2025 to 2033, reaching approximately $4.2 billion by 2033. This expansion is fueled by several key factors. Firstly, the shift towards cloud-based solutions offers salons improved accessibility, data security, and scalability, leading to higher adoption rates among both large enterprises and smaller businesses. Secondly, the integration of advanced features like online booking, appointment reminders, client relationship management (CRM) tools, and inventory management systems enhances operational efficiency and improves customer satisfaction. This translates into increased revenue and improved profitability for salons, making software investment highly attractive. The market segmentation reveals a significant portion held by cloud-based solutions, reflecting the industry's technological shift. Geographically, North America and Europe currently dominate the market, but strong growth is anticipated in the Asia-Pacific region, fueled by increasing internet penetration and a burgeoning beauty industry. However, challenges remain. The initial investment cost of software and the need for ongoing training can present barriers to entry for smaller salons with limited budgets. Competition among numerous providers, including established players like Zenoti and Phorest and newer entrants, adds pressure to pricing and innovation. Furthermore, data security concerns and the need for seamless integration with existing salon systems pose ongoing challenges for both vendors and users. Despite these restraints, the long-term outlook for the hair salon software market remains positive, driven by continuous technological advancements, evolving customer expectations, and the industry’s increasing reliance on digital solutions for growth and efficiency. The market will likely see further consolidation as larger players acquire smaller firms, and an increased focus on specialized solutions catering to niche salon segments.
