    Description

Download .zipA soil mapping unit designates a specific type of soil which has unique charactersitics including texture, slope, and erosion class.

This coverage was digitized from the original paper soil survey sheets. These sheets were taped together to form an area covering each of the townships in the county. The areas for each township were then digitized using a run length encoding technique sampling along horizontal lines which represented the midline of cells with a height of 250 feet. The measurement increment along these horizontal lines was one decafoot (10 feet). The township files were subsequently converted to ARC/INFO format and merged to create a county coverage.

The user should bear in mind that this coverage is only an approximation of the original soil survey and should not be used for site specific analysis. Additional details on the digitizing process are available on request.

    Description

ABSTRACT: The U.S. Geological Survey Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) has produced a vegetation spatial database coverage (vegetation map) for the Acadia National Park Vegetation Mapping Project, USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program (VMP). In support of mapping and classifying the vegetation, vegetation sample plots were collected and analyzed, identifying 53 National Vegetation Classification System natural/semi-natural associations (vegetation communities). Local botanists, via contract with The Nature Conservancy, collected 179 vegetation plot samples at Acadia National Park (NP) during the 1997-1999 field seasons. Maine Natural Areas Program performed ordination analysis using the field plot data and other existing vegetation data of the area. Vegetation communities of Acadia NP are defined and described at the local and global scale. All 179 vegetation plot samples are represented in the Vegetation Field Plot Spatial Database with selected data fields from the Project's PLOTS database.

    Description

description: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Geology Program has actively collected geophysical and sedimentological data in the northern Gulf of Mexico for several decades, including shallow subsurface data in the form of high-resolution seismic-reflection profiles (HRSP). Prior to the mid-1990s most HRSP data were collected in analog format as paper rolls of continuous profiles up to 25 meters long. A large portion of this data resides in a single repository with minimal metadata. As part of the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program, scientists at the USGS St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center are converting the analog paper records to digital format using a large-format continuous scanner. This publication serves as an archive of seismic profiles with headers, converted Society of Exploration Geophysicists Y format (SEG-Y) files, navigation data, and geographic information system (GIS) data files for digitized boomer seismic-reflection data collected from the Research Vessel (R/V) Erda during two cruises in 1990 and 1991. The Erda 90-1 geophysical cruise was conducted in two legs. The first leg included seismic data collected from the Hancock County region of the Mississippi Sound (Erda 90-1_HC) from June 4 to June 6, 1990. The second leg included seismic data collected from the Petit Bois Pass area of Mississippi Sound (Erda 90-1_PBP) from June 8 to June 9, 1990. The Erda 91-3 cruise occurred between September 12 and September 23, 1991 and surveyed the Mississippi Sound region just west of Horn Island, Mississippi.; abstract: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Coastal and Marine Geology Program has actively collected geophysical and sedimentological data in the northern Gulf of Mexico for several decades, including shallow subsurface data in the form of high-resolution seismic-reflection profiles (HRSP).
