    Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Harvard population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Harvard across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Harvard was 9,356, a 0.21% decrease year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Harvard population was 9,376, a decline of 0.96% compared to a population of 9,467 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Harvard increased by 1,236. In this period, the peak population was 9,896 in the year 2009. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    Content

When available, the data consists of estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    • From 2000 to 2023

    Variables / Data Columns

    Description

This entry provides access to the data elements available in the Operational Data Store (ODS) for my.Harvard Student Information System. These data are available through a request process. What are the goals of the Operational Data Store? Provide data in a more real-time environment than the Warehouse (refresh 1x a day) while not putting additional load on the transactional my.harvard system. Provide a single (university-wide) standard set of exports and then web-services for retrieving key Student data. Provide the ability to incrementally load the SIS Data warehouse star schemas, making it possible to refresh certain stars more than once a day. Provide Institutional Research and Registrar power-users the ability to investigate the Student data via direct SQL access. What is the SIS Operational Data Store (SIS ODS)? A database schema on the SIS Datawarehouse that will contain replicated core tables of the my.harvard transactional system along with standardized, simplified and performant views for extracting that data. We intend to make most data available through web services before the end of academic year 2015-2016. However, our first iteration will to be make data available via db views. The refresh schedule for the SIS ODS tables for this first release will be: Academic Class Data - 1x a day between 5:30am and 6:00am. What data will be available in the SIS ODS? ODS - Academic Class v SISODS_1.0.6.xlsx follow link to get to older versions ODS - Bio Demo v SISODS_1.0.5.xlsx follow link to get to older versions ODS - Class Enrollment.xlsx ODS - Student Career Program Plan v SISODS_1.0.6.xlsx ODS - Admissions v. SISODS_1.0.7 Document coming Snapshots - non-FAS. For FAS Snapshots, please contact Harvard College Institutional Research. How can I request access to the SIS ODS? Send an email to myharvard_support@harvard.edu to request access Please indicate what data you want to access through the ODS: School & Component Available components: Academic Class (course descriptors). Biographic - Demographic Class Enrollment Student Career Program Plan Please indicate whether the request is for a personal account or for an application integration account. For personal accounts, please provide the HUIDs of the individuals to be set up. How do I connect to the SIS ODS? SIS ODS connections are currently limited to ODBC/JDBC connections to a database. The attached instructions explain how to install SQL Developer and configure a connection.

    Variables measured
Male and Female Population Under 5 Years, Male and Female Population over 85 years, Male and Female Total Population for Age Groups, Male and Female Population Between 5 and 9 years, Male and Female Population Between 10 and 14 years, Male and Female Population Between 15 and 19 years, Male and Female Population Between 20 and 24 years, Male and Female Population Between 25 and 29 years, Male and Female Population Between 30 and 34 years, Male and Female Population Between 35 and 39 years, and 9 more
    Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the three variables, namely (a) male population, (b) female population and (b) total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. Description
    About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the data for the Harvard, IL population pyramid, which represents the Harvard population distribution across age and gender, using estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. It lists the male and female population for each age group, along with the total population for those age groups. Higher numbers at the bottom of the table suggest population growth, whereas higher numbers at the top indicate declining birth rates. Furthermore, the dataset can be utilized to understand the youth dependency ratio, old-age dependency ratio, total dependency ratio, and potential support ratio.

    Key observations

    • Youth dependency ratio, which is the number of children aged 0-14 per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Harvard, IL, is 41.6.
    • Old-age dependency ratio, which is the number of persons aged 65 or over per 100 persons aged 15-64, for Harvard, IL, is 15.4.
    • Total dependency ratio for Harvard, IL is 57.0.
    • Potential support ratio, which is the number of youth (working age population) per elderly, for Harvard, IL is 6.5.

    Description

This is a replication package for "Lifting the Cap on Non-Resident University Enrollment: Evidence from Wisconsin" Abstract: The economics literature disagrees about the effects that non-resident (i.e. originating outside of the state) students have on potential resident students at public universities. Despite paying a premium to attend state universities, non-resident students are often accused of negatively affecting academic quality and crowding out resident students. We present new evidence on this relationship by exploiting the removal of an enrollment cap on non-resident students at a highly ranked state flagship university. We find this policy yielded a 29 percent increase in non-resident enrollment (coming almost entirely from domestic---rather than international---students), and a consequent 47 percent increase in tuition revenue which funded large increases in financial aid disbursed at the university, particularly for low-income resident students, indicating that non-resident students cross-subsidize lower income students. We find no evidence of negative effects on several measures of academic quality or resident-student enrollment. These results imply that individual universities with excess capacity could in principle benefit their lower-income resident students by removing caps on non-resident student enrollment.

    Description

This dataset contains information on graduates from various colleges of a public university in Uganda, with an emphasis on characteristics impacting academic achievement. It contains information on the demographics, academic backgrounds, extracurricular activities, and family status of 752 students from nine colleges. The data was gathered using a Google Forms poll that was designed to obtain detailed information on these topics. The poll had questions on academic backgrounds (grades, study habits, attitudes toward education), demographics (backgrounds and personal features), extracurricular activities (non-academic influences), and family upbringing (parental education and occupation). This dataset is an invaluable resource for academics and educators, providing insights on how demographics, academic background, extracurricular involvement, and family history interact and influence academic success. It serves as a foundation for educational research, policy formulation, and program development, improving our understanding of the elements that influence university graduates' academic careers.
