    Description

According to the data from 2025, some 16 percent of respondents said that rising health care costs were the most important health issue facing the United States. Cancer ranked second on the list with 15 percent. Issues with healthcare costsCurrently, the most urgent problem facing American healthcare is the high costs of care. The high expense of healthcare may deter people from getting the appropriate treatment when they need medical care or cause them to completely forego preventative care visits. Many Americans reported that they may skip prescription doses or refrain from taking medication as prescribed due to financial concerns. Such health-related behavior can result in major health problems, which may raise the long-term cost of care. Inflation, medical debt, and unforeseen medical expenses have all added to the burden that health costs are placing on household income. Gun violence issueThe gun violence epidemic has plagued the United States over the past few years, yet very little has been done to address the issue. In recent years, gun violence has become the leading cause of death among American children and teens. Even though more than half of Americans are in favor of tougher gun control regulations, there is little political will to strongly reform the current gun law. Gun violence has a deep traumatic impact on survivors and society, it is developing into a major public health crisis in the United States.

    Description

A 2024 survey found that over half of U.S. individuals indicated the cost of accessing treatment was the biggest problem facing the national healthcare system. This is much higher than the global average of 32 percent and is in line with the high cost of health care in the U.S. compared to other high-income countries. Bureaucracy along with a lack of staff were also considered to be pressing issues. This statistic reveals the share of individuals who said select problems were the biggest facing the health care system in the United States in 2024.

As of June 2025, some 15 percent of Americans surveyed were of the opinion that opioids and fentanyl addiction is the number one public health threat in the U.S., a slight increase from 12 percent in February 2025. Furthermore, obesity was viewed as a top public health issue by 22 percent of Americans in June 2025.
U.S. healthcare issues The United States has the highest healthcare spending globally. The majority of Americans considered rising healthcare costs as the most important healthcare problem facing the U.S. in January 2023. While COVID-19 and cancer were ranked second on the list. Due to unfortunate mass shooting incidents in the country, gun violence is typically related to homicide and is not considered a healthcare issue. Although the most popular method of suicide among Americans who attempted it was a gun or firearm, the link between gun access and suicide is frequently ignored as a public health crisis.

In 1957, the United States Congress established the Joint Commission on Mental Illness and Health to evaluate the nation's resources for coping with both the psychological and economic problems of mental illness. The Commission sponsored a nationwide survey, which was conducted by the Survey Research Center at the University of Michigan, to assess the subjective mental health of "normal" American adults and to determine in detail how they coped with problems of adjustment. During the spring of 1957, a sample of American adults was interviewed on various areas in which problems might arise, including marriage, parenthood, employment, and general social relationships. Information about leisure time, past and present physical and mental health, and motives for affiliation, achievement, and power were also sought. Three questionnaire forms were employed, each addressed to a randomly selected third of the sample.

This dataset contains model-based county estimates. PLACES covers the entire United States—50 states and the District of Columbia—at county, place, census tract, and ZIP Code Tabulation Area levels. It provides information uniformly on this large scale for local areas at four geographic levels. Estimates were provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Population Health, Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch. PLACES was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in conjunction with the CDC Foundation. This dataset includes estimates for 40 measures: 12 for health outcomes, 7 for preventive services use, 4 for chronic disease-related health risk behaviors, 7 for disabilities, 3 for health status, and 7 for health-related social needs. These estimates can be used to identify emerging health problems and to help develop and carry out effective, targeted public health prevention activities. Because the small area model cannot detect effects due to local interventions, users are cautioned against using these estimates for program or policy evaluations. Data sources used to generate these model-based estimates are Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) 2022 or 2021 data, Census Bureau 2022 county population estimate data, and American Community Survey 2018–2022 estimates. The 2024 release uses 2022 BRFSS data for 36 measures and 2021 BRFSS data for 4 measures (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cholesterol screening, and taking medicine for high blood pressure control among those with high blood pressure) that the survey collects data on every other year. More information about the methodology can be found at www.cdc.gov/places.

    Description

    Introduction

Global Behavioral Health Market size is expected to be worth around USD 227.5 Bn by 2032 from USD 147.2 Bn in 2023, growing at a CAGR of 5.1% during the forecast period from 2023 to 2032.

The global behavioral health market is experiencing significant growth driven by the increasing prevalence of mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. Governments are implementing various initiatives to address this escalating issue, emphasizing the importance of mental health counseling for all age groups.

This trend is supported by substantial investments that are expanding community-based psychiatric services. Stakeholders looking to enhance their presence in the market might find telepsychiatry services a lucrative area, as it responds effectively to the rising demands of patients and can significantly increase market revenues.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been particularly severe on mental health, exacerbating the global crisis. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported a 25% surge in global anxiety and depression rates during the first year of the pandemic alone. This has led to increased funding in digital health initiatives, such as e-prescribing and virtual therapy sessions, to meet the growing need for mental health services.

Despite these efforts, there remains a notable shortage of mental health professionals. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 47% of Americans resided in areas with insufficient mental health workers in 2022, with some areas needing as many as 700 more professionals to adequately serve their populations.

Behavioral health is also gaining focus in research, particularly in North America, which leads in producing high-quality studies that assess the societal impacts of mental health issues. The United States is at the forefront in adopting advanced technological solutions for behavioral healthcare. The WHO notes that the costs associated with treating behavioral disorders in the U.S. are significantly higher than those for other chronic diseases.

Additionally, about 36% of Americans are likely to suffer from a mental disorder at some point in their lives. In Europe, the expanding elderly population is contributing to the rise in mental health issues, a factor expected to propel the growth of the behavioral health market in the region.

Latin America Specialized Formula Medical Nutrition Market Drivers

Growing Chronic Illness Prevalence: Specialized medical nutrition is in high demand due to the rise in chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular problems. Tailored nutritional formulae created to support particular health issues have become increasingly important as healthcare systems concentrate on preventative measures and therapy for these diseases.

Population Aging: With an aging population, Latin America is undergoing a demographic change. Nutritional demands specific to age-related health conditions, like sarcopenia or malnutrition, are common in older persons. There has been a sharp increase in the development of products targeted at older consumers as a result of this demographic change, which is pushing the need for specialty formulae that meet the nutritional gaps common in this age range.

    Description

A dataset of a longitudinal study of over 3,000 Mexican-Americans aged 65 or over living in five southwestern states. The objective is to describe the physical and mental health of the study group and link them to key social variables (e.g., social support, health behavior, acculturation, migration). To the extent possible, the study was modeled after the existing EPESE studies, especially the Duke EPESE, which included a large sample if African-Americans. Unlike the other EPESE studies that were restricted to small geographic areas, the Hispanic EPESE aimed at obtaining a representative sample of community-dwelling Mexican-American elderly residing in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and California. Approximately 85% of Mexican-American elderly reside in these states and data were obtained that are generalizable to roughly 500,000 older people. The final sample of 3,050 subjects at baseline is comparable to those of the other EPESE studies. Data Availability: Waves I to IV are available through the National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA), ICPSR. Also available through NACDA is the ??Resource Book of the Hispanic Established Populations for the Epidemiologic Studies of the Elderly?? which offers a thorough review of the data and its applications. All subjects aged 75 or older were interviewed for Wave V and 902 new subjects were added. Hemoglobin A1c test kits were provided to subjects who self-reported diabetes. Approximately 270 of the kits were returned for analyses. Wave V data are being validated and reviewed. A tentative timeline for the archiving of Wave V data is November 2006. Wave VI interviewing and data collection is scheduled to begin in Fall 2006. * Dates of Study: 1993-2006 * Study Features: Longitudinal, Minority oversamples, Anthropometric Measures * Sample Size: ** 1993-4: 3,050 (Wave I) ** 1995-6: 2,438 (Wave II) ** 1998-9: 1,980 (Wave III) ** 2000-1: 1,682 (Wave IV) ** 2004-5: 2,073 (Wave V) ** 2006-7: (Wave VI) Links: * ICPSR Wave 1: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/studies/2851 * ICPSR Wave 2: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/studies/3385 * ICPSR Wave 3: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/studies/4102 * ICPSR Wave 4: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/studies/4314 * ICPSR Wave 5: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/studies/25041 * ICPSR Wave 6: http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/studies/29654

    Description

The Survey on Health, Well-Being, and Aging in Latin America and the Caribbean (Project SABE) was conducted during 1999 and 2000 to examine health conditions and functional limitations of persons aged 60 and older in the countries of Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, and Uruguay, with special focus on persons over 80 years of age. Project SABE was administered in the official language of each country: Spanish in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Mexico City (Mexico), Santiago (Chile), Havana (Cuba), and Montevideo (Uruguay), English in Bridgetown (Barbados), and Portuguese in Sao Paulo (Brazil). Goals of the project were to (a) describe the health conditions of older adults (aged 60 and older with special focus on persons over 80) with regard to chronic and acute diseases, disability, and physical and mental impairment, (b) evaluate the extent to which older adults used and had access to health care services, including services that are outside the formal system (local healers, traditional medicine), (c) evaluate the proportional contribution by principal sources of support -- relatives and family networks, public assistance, and private resources (income, assets) -- towards meeting the health-related needs of older adults, (d) evaluate access to health insurance offered by private organizations, governmental institutions, and mixed systems, as well as the extent to which that insurance was actually used, (e) analyze the differentials in the self-evaluation of health conditions, access to health care, and sources of support with regard to socioeconomic group, gender, and birth cohort, (f) evaluate the relationships between strategic factors -- health-related behavior, occupational background, socioeconomic status, gender, and cohort -- and health conditions, according to the health evaluation at the time of the survey, and (g) carry out comparative analyses in countries that share similar characteristics but that differ with regard to such factors as the role of family support, public assistance, access to health services, and health-related behavior and exposure to risk. Demographic variables include age, sex, race, level of education, birthplace, religion, ethnic group, marital status, and income. Also examined were cognitive status, health status, functional status, nutritional status, and use and accessibility of services

    Context

"The U.S. has now passed the grim milestone of 150,000 coronavirus deaths with Califoria, Florida and Texas all recently setting single-day records for deaths from the pandemic. On July 29, one American was dying from Covid-19 every minute with the total number of infections approaching 4.4 million. Studies have found that men are dying at nearly twice the rate of women in the U.S. while the pandemic is proving especially devastating for black Americans who are dying at nearly three times the rate of white people." https://www.statista.com/chart/22430/coronavirus-deaths-by-race-in-the-us/

    Content

"That's according to The COVID Tracking Project who state that 30,648 black lives have been lost to the coronavirus to date, accounting for 23 percent of all U.S. deaths where race is known. The deaths were broken down by race or ethnicity with 74 black Americans dying per 100,000 people compared to 30 white Americans per 100,000 people as of July 30, 2020."

    Description

MenÂ’s Digital Health Platforms Market Outlook

According to our latest research, the global menÂ’s digital health platforms market size reached USD 4.2 billion in 2024, with a robust year-on-year growth trajectory. The market is projected to expand at a CAGR of 18.7% from 2025 to 2033, culminating in a forecasted value of USD 17.5 billion by 2033. This impressive growth is primarily driven by rising awareness around menÂ’s health issues, increasing adoption of digital health solutions, and the proliferation of smartphones and internet connectivity globally. As per our latest research, the market is witnessing significant investments from both public and private sectors, aiming to bridge the gap in menÂ’s healthcare accessibility.

One of the key growth factors propelling the menÂ’s digital health platforms market is the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases among men, such as cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, and prostate health issues. The modern sedentary lifestyle, coupled with dietary habits and stress, has led to a surge in chronic health conditions, necessitating continuous monitoring and management. Digital health platforms are proving particularly effective in providing personalized care plans, remote monitoring, and timely interventions, which are critical for effective chronic disease management. Moreover, the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning into these platforms has enhanced their capabilities to offer predictive analytics and early warning systems, further driving their adoption among healthcare providers and end-users.

Another significant driver is the growing societal acceptance and demand for mental health and sexual health services tailored specifically for men. Historically, men have been less likely to seek help for mental health concerns due to stigma and lack of awareness. However, digital health platforms are breaking down these barriers by offering confidential, accessible, and stigma-free environments for men to address their mental and sexual health needs. The availability of teleconsultations, digital therapy sessions, and anonymous support communities has led to a marked increase in user engagement and retention. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of remote healthcare services, further normalizing the use of digital platforms for sensitive health topics.

The rapid advancement in mobile technology and the increasing penetration of smartphones are also fueling the growth of the menÂ’s digital health platforms market. Mobile-based applications are now the primary mode of access for most users, offering convenience, real-time tracking, and personalized notifications. The seamless integration of wearable devices and health apps allows for continuous health monitoring, data collection, and instant feedback, empowering men to take proactive control of their health. Furthermore, collaborations between technology companies and healthcare providers are leading to the development of innovative solutions that cater to the unique health needs of men, ranging from fitness and wellness to preventive care.

Regionally, North America dominates the menÂ’s digital health platforms market, owing to its advanced healthcare infrastructure, high digital literacy, and supportive regulatory environment. The region is characterized by a high adoption rate of telehealth services and a strong presence of leading market players. Europe follows closely, benefiting from government initiatives promoting digital health and a growing focus on preventive healthcare. The Asia Pacific region is emerging as a lucrative market, driven by a large population base, rising awareness about menÂ’s health, and increasing investments in digital healthcare technologies. Meanwhile, Latin America and the Middle East & Africa are gradually catching up, supported by improving internet connectivity and government-led health digitization programs.

Tele-Andrology is emerging as a pivotal component within the men's digital health platforms, offering specialized care for male reproductive health issues through virtual means. This innovative approach allows men to access expert consultations and diagnostic services from the comfort of their homes, breaking down geographical barriers and reducing the stigma often associated wit
