It is estimated that in the United Kingdom (UK), the number of new business-to-consumer (B2C) policies in the private health insurance industry will have increased by approximately ************* policies between 2018 and 2024.Statista estimates that the share of new policies that will be taken out online between 2018 and 2024 will only grow marginally during this period. These data are transcripts from 14 local stakeholder interviews. These stakeholders worked to promote health and reduce health inequalities in their areas. 9 participants worked in local authority public health partnerships; 3 working in a public helath role at the regional level and 2 worked in the third sector. Interviews were conducted in 2019/2020; after March 2020, interviews were conducted online becasue of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, interviews were conducted face-to-face. Interviews were semi-structured, followed a topic guide (loosely) and were open enough to allow participants to follow their own line of thought and interest. Ethical approval for the study was granted by the University of Sheffield’s School of Health and Related Research Ethics Committee, reference number 030027. The aim of this study was to undertake an empirical analysis of the policy process in the NHS, in order to examine how policy towards health inequalities is formulated and how that policy is translated vertically into local policy. How and why local policies differ within health authorities and other agencies was also considered, and how these initiatives are evaluated at local level.

The first stage of the research project was a review of legislation and national policy documents. The second stage was a short questionnaire sent to over 2000 named trusts and local authorities in England, Wales and Scotland. The third stage used case studies and interviews to examine how the policy process worked. Together, the three stages aimed to provide a balance between qualitative and quantitative data sources in assessing the interaction between stakeholders in formulating and implementing equity policies.

The draft London Health Inequalities Strategy This document outlines the main issues that lead to inequalities in the health of different groups of Londoners, and a set of aims for reducing them. It outlines the Mayor’s role, but also how other organisations working in health in London can work together to ensure that all Londoners can benefit from a healthy lifestyle. The draft strategy was published on the London.gov.uk website on 23 August 2017 for a 14-week public consultation (closing 30 November 2017). The Report to the Mayor provides a high-level summary and analysis of the issues raised during the consultation of the draft strategy, from both technical stakeholders and members of the public. This allowed the Mayor to have proper regard to the consultation responses when deciding whether to approve the final version of the strategy. The public responded to the consultation via Talk London online discussion threads and surveys; and via representative polling. The Talk London datasets and emailed responses were analysed by policy area, and compared against insights from the representative polling. This allowed the team to identify any similarities or differences between the views of the general population and the views of the Talk London community. All datasets on a policy area were brought together in a single thematic summary report, which aimed to show where the balance of opinion lay, as well as highlight areas of disagreement or debate. These reports are provided below, alongside the more detailed qualitative and quantitative research findings and data tables.

ABSTRACT Although the National Health Service (NHS) and the Unified Health System (SUS) are systems with similar universal principles, they can show different political measure patterns in the pharmaceutical field. This paper aimed to provide a comparative analysis of pharmaceutical policies highlighting strategies to guarantee access and sustainability to High-Price Medicines (HPMs) in Brazil and England. We performed an integrative literature review in electronic databases, supplemented by grey literature searched on governmental platforms (laws, decrees, ordinances, and resolutions). A total of Forty-seven articles and seven policies were selected and categorized for analysis. The results showed that both countries apply distinct policies to ensure access to HPMs, among them, policies to define price and reimbursement and actions to regulate the use inside the system. Also, these countries apply distinct policies to their sustainability as local partnerships for product development in Brazil and confidential managed agreements with multinational industries in the England. In conclusion, despite similarities in principles, these countries have been proposing and applying distinct pharmaceutical policies to maintain access and ensure the sustainability of their health systems.

The most well known health insurance provider among UK consumers was Aviva in 2023. Some ** percent of respondents stated that they knew the brand, even if only by name in the 2023 survey. Bupa and AXA followed behind with ** and ** percent, respectively.

This publication provides the most timely picture available of people using NHS funded secondary mental health, learning disabilities and autism services in England. These are experimental statistics which are undergoing development and evaluation. This information will be of use to people needing access to information quickly for operational decision making and other purposes. More detailed information on the quality and completeness of these statistics is made available later in our Mental Health Bulletin: Annual Report publication series.

• COVID-19 and the production of statistics

Due to the coronavirus illness (COVID-19) disruption, it would seem that this is now starting to affect the quality and coverage of some of our statistics, such as an increase in non-submissions for some datasets. We are also starting to see some different patterns in the submitted data. For example, fewer patients are being referred to hospital and more appointments being carried out via phone/telemedicine/email. Therefore, data should be interpreted with care over the COVID-19 period.

This Public Health Portfolio (Directly Funded Research - Programme and Training Awards) dataset contains NIHR directly funded research awards where the funding is allocated to an award holder or host organisation to carry out a specific piece of research or complete a training award. The NIHR also invests significantly in centres of excellence, collaborations, services and facilities to support research in England. Collectively these form NIHR infrastructure support. NIHR infrastructure supported projects are available in the Public Health Portfolio (Infrastructure Support) dataset which you can find here.NIHR directly funded research awards (Programmes and Training Awards) that were funded between January 2006 and the present extraction date are eligible for inclusion in this dataset. An agreed inclusion/exclusion criteria is used to categorise awards as public health awards (see below). Following inclusion in the dataset, public health awards are second level coded to one of the four Public Health Outcomes Framework domains. These domains are: (1) wider determinants (2) health improvement (3) health protection (4) healthcare and premature mortality.More information on the Public Health Outcomes Framework domains can be found here.This dataset is updated quarterly to include new NIHR awards categorised as public health awards. The Secondary Uses Service (SUS +) is a collection of healthcare data required by hospitals and used for planning health care, supporting payments, commissioning policy development and research.

The Secondary Uses Services Payment By Results data set is derived from SUS+ and includes key data in support of the national tariff system which is used to determine the reimbursement of NHS funded care in England.

Following the handover of responsibility for the NHS Payment system from DH to NHS England and NHS improvements (formerly Monitor) in April 2013, PbR was effectively replaced by the National Tariff Payment System (NTPS) in April 2014. This new payment system currently retains the vast majority of PbR policy. Due to the embedded terminology, data item and extract naming consistency, SUS continues to refer PbR in SUS and therefore the terms 'Payment by Results', 'PbR', 'National Tariff Payment System' and 'NTPS' should be considered interchangeable when using SUS or any SUS Guidance.

Payment by Results (PbR) provides a transparent, rules-based national tariff system, used to determine the reimbursement of NHS funded care in England. PbR rewards efficiency, supports patient choice and diversity and encourages activity for sustainable waiting time reductions. Payment is linked to activity and adjusted for casemix. This ensures a fair and consistent basis for hospital funding rather than being reliant principally on historic budgets and the negotiating skills of individual managers. PbR is the payment system in England under which commissioners pay providers of NHS-funded healthcare for each patient seen or treated, considering the complexity of the patient’s healthcare needs. The two fundamental features of PbR are nationally determined currencies and tariffs. Currencies are the unit of healthcare for which a payment is made and can take a number of forms covering different time periods from an outpatient attendance or a stay in hospital, to a year SUS+ PbR Reference Manual v4.64 Copyright © 2019 NHS Digital 5 of care for a long-term condition. Tariffs are the set prices paid for each currency.

PbR currently covers most of the acute healthcare in hospitals, with national tariffs for admitted patient care, outpatient attendances and accident and emergency. This activity is submitted using Commissioning Data Sets (CDS). Current policy intends that the scope of PbR and national tariff will expand in future by introducing currencies and tariffs for mental health, community and other services
