    Description

The online Health Profiles data has been updated for May 2016.

The online Health Profiles are now being updated quarterly at the same time as the Public Health Outcomes Framework (PHOF). The 4-page local authority PDF documents are updated annually and were last updated in July 2015. The PDFs will next be updated in September or October 2016.

The data are presented in an interactive tool that allows users to view them in a user-friendly format. The profiles provide a snapshot overview of health for each local authority in England. These profiles are intended to help local government and health services make plans to improve local people’s health and reduce health inequalities.

    This quarterly update contains:

    • more recent data for 5 indicators
    • changes to 1 indicator to take account of revisions to the underlying data
    • updates to 3 indicators that are currently in the PDF Health Profiles reports and are being included in the online interactive Health Profiles tool for the first time

    Description

The child and maternal health profiles provide an overview of child and maternal health and wellbeing. The profiles give data to inform planning for health and associated services for local populations. They are intended for use by local government and health service professionals.

Healthy pregnancy indicators which were initially produced in September 2020 have been updated using new definitions and an updated data source, the Maternity Services Dataset version 2.0. The indicators cover the following topics in early pregnancy:

    • early access to maternity care
    • folic acid supplement use
    • smoking
    • alcohol use
    • drug misuse
    • maternal obesity

These indicators complement indicators on birth outcomes some of which have been updated:

    • multiple births
    • low birth weight and very low birth weight babies
    • percentage of babies whose first feed is breast milk

The child education and attendance indicators which have also been updated are:

    • persistent absentees in primary and secondary schools
    • average attainment 8 score of children in care
    • school age pupils with special educational needs

Data is presented at a national level, with most indicators also available at regional level and for upper tier local authorities. The healthy pregnancy indicators are also available for integrated care boards (ICBs). The indicators include information about inequalities.

Normally, this release would include an update of the indicator on free school meals uptake. This has been delayed and is anticipated to be released early next year. The update on the percentage of babies whose first feed is breast milk includes a back series to 2019 and replaces previously published data.

    Description

Abstract We sought to investigate the mental health profile of university students and possible individual aspects, life habits and associated academic experiences. 844 students were included, predominantly female with a mean age of 22.57 years, who answered a socioeconomic and life habits questionnaire and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale. Cluster and multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed. Three profiles were identified: students with good, moderate and poor mental health. Married or single students, from exact sciences, who studied in a public university and did not work, with low alcohol consumption were more likely to have a good mental health. Understanding the association of life habits and academic experiences with different profiles is relevant to develop interventional strategies with this public.

    Description

BackgroundStudies of secular trends in mental unhealth indicate that adolescents in the Nordic countries, especially girls, have an increased reported prevalence of mental health problems the last decades. This increase needs to be seen in the light of the adolescents' assessments of their perceived overall health.ObjectiveTo investigate whether a person-centered approach to research can enhance understanding of changes over time in the distribution of mental health problems among Swedish adolescents.MethodA dual-factor approach was used to study changes over time in mental health profiles among nationally representative 15-year-old adolescent samples from Sweden. Cluster analyses of subjective health symptoms (psychological and somatic) and perceived overall health from the Swedish Health Behavior in School-aged Children (HBSC) surveys of 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018 were used to identify these mental health profiles (n = 9,007).ResultsFour mental health profiles were identified by a cluster analysis which combined all five data collections—Perceived good health, Perceived poor health, High psychosomatic symptoms, and Poor mental health. There were no significant differences in the distributions of these four mental health profiles between the survey years 2002 and 2010, but substantial changes took place between 2010 and 2018. Here, particularly the High psychosomatic symptoms profile increased among both boys and girls. The Perceived good health profile decreased among both boys and girls, and the Perceived poor health profile decreased among girls. The profile involving the most pronounced mental health problems, the Poor mental health profile (perceived poor health, high psychosomatic problems), was stable from 2002 to 2018 among both boys and girls.ConclusionThe study shows the added value of using person-centered analyses to describe differences in mental health indicators between cohorts of adolescents over longer periods of time. In contrast to the long-term increase in mental health problems seen in many countries, this Swedish study did not find an increase among young persons, both boys and girls, with the poorest mental health, the Poor mental health profile. Rather, the most substantial increase over the survey years, predominantly between 2010 and 2018, was found among the 15-year-olds with High psychosomatic symptoms only.
