In 1991, the National Task Force on Health Information cited a number of issues and problems with the health information system. To respond to these issues, the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), Statistics Canada and Health Canada joined forces to create a Health Information Roadmap. From this mandate, the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) was conceived. The CCHS is a cross-sectional survey that collects information related to health status, health care utilization and health determinants for the Canadian population. The survey is offered in both official languages. It relies upon a large sample of respondents and is designed to provide reliable estimates at the health region level every 2 years. The primary use of the CCHS data is for health surveillance and population health research. The data presented here is by age group and sex, for Canada, provinces, territories and health regions (2017 boundaries).

The Open Database of Healthcare Facilities (ODHF) is a collection of open data containing the names, types, and locations of health facilities across Canada. It is released under the Open Government License - Canada. The ODHF compiles open, publicly available, and directly-provided data on health facilities across Canada. Data sources include regional health authorities, provincial, territorial and municipal governments, and public health and professional healthcare bodies. This database aims to provide enhanced access to a harmonized listing of health facilities across Canada by making them available as open data. This database is a component of the Linkable Open Data Environment (LODE).

Health Reports, published by the Health Analysis Division of Statistics Canada, is a peer-reviewed journal of population health and health services research. It is designed for a broad audience that includes health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and the general public. The journal publishes articles of wide interest that contain original and timely analyses of national or provincial/territorial surveys or administrative databases. New articles are published electronically each month.

Health Reports had an impact factor of 2.673 for 2014 and a five-year impact factor of 4.167. All articles are indexed in PubMed. Our online catalogue is free and receives more than 500,000 visits per year. External submissions are welcome.

The Health Statistics and Health Research Database is Estonian largest set of health-related statistics and survey results administrated by National Institute for Health Development. Use of the database is free of charge.

The database consists of eight main areas divided into sub-areas. The data tables included in the sub-areas are assigned unique codes. The data tables presented in the database can be both viewed in the Internet environment, and downloaded using different file formats (.px, .xlsx, .csv, .json). Health Statistics at a Glance tables contain information on socio-economic risk factors or determinants of health, health status, new information on health outcomes and expanded information on utilization of the health care system. The aim of Health Statistics at a Glance tables is to present a core data set using the most recent information available. The indicator tables show extended time series for Canada, provinces and territorial levels of geography. Depending on the indicator, cross-classifications are by age and sex, and, in some cases by education. Due to the large amount of sample survey data used to construct the indicators, many tables cannot be produced for sub-provincial areas. Health Statistics at a Glance is an integrated information product. Its content reflects the growing demand for analysis of many current health issues supplemented by the underlying data. Within this CD-ROM there are three major components: the Statistical Report on the Health of Canadians, 17 Health Reports articles cited in the Statistical Report, and all of the components of Health Indicators, including Causes of Death. Users access the data as tabulations that they can display in various formats according to their own needs. The Health Statistics at a Glance CD-ROM contains the entire database of over 100 indicators and the software to access the information on a personal computer. The database can be accessed on the mainframe computer by using Statistics Canada's CANSIM cross-classified database.
