    Description

Mother earth is enriched and nourished with a variety of plants. These plants are useful in many ways such as drug formulation, production of herbal products, and medicines to cure many common ailments and diseases. For the past 5000 years, Ayurveda, a traditional Indian medicinal system is widely accepted even today. India is a rich country for being the habitat for a variety of medicinal plants. Many parts of the plants such as leaves, bark, root, seeds, fruits, and many more are used as a vital ingredient for the production of herbal medicines. Herbal medicines are preferred in both developing and developed countries as an alternative to synthetic drugs mainly because of no side effects. Recognition of these plants by human sight will be tedious, time-consuming, and inaccurate. Applications of image processing and computer vision techniques for the identification of the medicinal plants are very crucial as many of them are under extinction as per the IUCN records. Hence, the digitization of useful medicinal plants is crucial for the conservation of biodiversity. Studies reveal that to build an intelligent system for recognition of medicinal herbs requires a decent size of plant leaf dataset. The dataset comprises of thirty species of healthy medicinal herbs such as Santalum album (Sandalwood), Muntingia calabura (Jamaica cherry), Plectranthus amboinicus / Coleus amboinicus (Indian Mint, Mexican mint), Brassica juncea (Oriental mustard), and many more. The dataset consists of 1500 images of forty species. Each species consist of 60 to 100 high-quality images. The folders are named as per the species botanical/scientific name. The leaves plucked are from different plants of the same species available in local gardens. It is keenly ensured not to pluck many leaves to build the dataset as it goes to waste after capturing a picture of it. Healthy and mature leaves are selected for the dataset. The instruments used are a Mobile camera (Model: Samsung s9+) and printer (Model: Canon Inkjet Printer). The images of the leaf in the dataset are slightly rotated and tilted to take its utmost advantage in training any machine learning and deep learning models. The contribution of the medicinal plant leaf dataset to develop Artificial Intelligence models (machine learning and deep learning) will assist many researchers and computer scientists to detect, identify the species and its diseases and learn more about the herb existence and medicinal properties. By releasing this dataset to the community, we look forward to stimulate research in medicinal plants where the current lack of public datasets is one of the main barriers for progress.

    Description

Of interest to pharmaceutical, nutritional, and biomedical researchers, as well as individuals and companies involved with alternative therapies and and herbal products, this database is one of the world's leading repositories of ethnobotanical data, evolving out of the extensive compilations by the former Chief of USDA's Economic Botany Laboratory in the Agricultural Research Service in Beltsville, Maryland, in particular his popular Handbook of phytochemical constituents of GRAS herbs and other economic plants (CRC Press, Boca Raton, FL, 1992). In addition to Duke's own publications, the database documents phytochemical information and quantitative data collected over many years through research results presented at meetings and symposia, and findings from the published scientific literature. The current Phytochemical and Ethnobotanical databases facilitate plant, chemical, bioactivity, and ethnobotany searches. A large number of plants and their chemical profiles are covered, and data are structured to support browsing and searching in several user-focused ways. For example, users can

get a list of chemicals and activities for a specific plant of interest, using either its scientific or common name download a list of chemicals and their known activities in PDF or spreadsheet form find plants with chemicals known for a specific biological activity display a list of chemicals with their LD toxicity data find plants with potential cancer-preventing activity display a list of plants for a given ethnobotanical use find out which plants have the highest levels of a specific chemical

    Description

Endometriosis is a common benign disease in women of reproductive age. It has been defined as a disorder characterized by inflammation, compromised immunity, hormone dependence, and neuroangiogenesis. Unfortunately, the mechanisms of endometriosis have not yet been fully elucidated, and available treatment methods are currently limited. The discovery of new therapeutic drugs and improvements in existing treatment schemes remain the focus of research initiatives. Chinese medicine can improve the symptoms associated with endometriosis. Many Chinese herbal medicines could exert antiendometriosis effects via comprehensive interactions with multiple targets. However, these interactions have not been defined. This study used association rule mining and systems pharmacology to discover a method by which potential antiendometriosis herbs can be investigated. We analyzed various combinations and mechanisms of action of medicinal herbs to establish molecular networks showing interactions with multiple targets. The results showed that endometriosis treatment in Chinese medicine is mainly based on methods of supplementation with blood-activating herbs and strengthening qi. Furthermore, we used network pharmacology to analyze the main herbs that facilitate the decoding of multiscale mechanisms of the herbal compounds. We found that Chinese medicine could affect the development of endometriosis by regulating inflammation, immunity, angiogenesis, and other clusters of processes identified by Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses. The antiendometriosis effect of Chinese medicine occurs mainly through nervous system–associated pathways, such as the serotonergic synapse, the neurotrophin signaling pathway, and dopaminergic synapse, among others, to reduce pain. Chinese medicine could also regulate VEGF signaling, toll-like reporter signaling, NF-κB signaling, MAPK signaling, PI3K-Akt signaling, and the HIF-1 signaling pathway, among others. Synergies often exist in herb pairs and herbal prescriptions. In conclusion, we identified some important targets, target pairs, and regulatory networks, using bioinformatics and data mining. The combination of data mining and network pharmacology may offer an efficient method for drug discovery and development from herbal medicines.

    Description

Endophytes are a group of microorganisms that coexist with healthy plant tissues and organs at various or all stages of their life cycle without causing obvious disease symptoms in the host plant. These microorganisms include endophytic bacteria and fungi. Traditional Chinese medicinal plants are rich in endophytes, which are intricately linked to the metabolic processes of the host plants and the production of active medicinal compounds. Moreover, endophytes directly influence the quality and authenticity of traditional Chinese herbs. Notable traditional medicinal plants such as Gastrodiae Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Bupleuri Radix, Polygonati Rhizoma, and Cistanches Herba are frequently used in traditional Chinese medicine for the prevention, treatment, and diagnosis of diseases. In recent years, driven by the "Healthy China" strategy and the growing emphasis on traditional Chinese medicinal resources, research on endophytes in traditional Chinese herbs has been on the rise. To compile and synthesize the extensive research findings on endophytes in traditional Chinese herbs and establish a comprehensive knowledge system, literature retrieval and information extraction analyses were conducted. Consequently, a Q-markers database based on endophytes in Chinese herbs was created. This database encompasses the names, host plants, plant source in literature, classifications, genera, families, orders, classes, phyla, functions/biological effects, techniques, sequence lengths, NCBI reference sequence numbers/GenBank, references, and corresponding links of endophytes. This database serves as a valuable reference for research related to the microbiome of traditional Chinese herbs. In Version 2, the number of endophytes in the database was updated to 657.In Version 3, in order to distinguish the origin of host plants, category 'Plant source in literature' was added. The number of endophytes in the database was updated to 660.In Version 4, we added a processing file for the data in QMD, in which we counted the frequency of each endophyte and analyzed parameters such as the proportion of high-frequency endophytes occurring in the five traditional medicinal plants. In Version 5, we corrected the errors that appeared in the description of the past few versions and a new version of QMD was provided.
