The Capital of Bolivia sits 3,869 meters above sea level, and is more than 1,000 meters higher than the second ranked city - Quito. La Paz is also higher than Mt. Fuji in Japan, which has a height of 3,776 meters. Many of the world's highest cities are located in South America. The only city in North America that makes the top 20 list is Denver, Colorado, which has an altitude of 1,673 meters.

As of 2024, Hong Kong was the city in the world with the most skyscrapers that were at least 150 meters high. The next city in the ranking was Shenzhen with 410 buildings exceeding that height, followed by New York City with 316 buildings. Some of the other cities on the list were Dubai and Guangzhou. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai was the highest building in the world.

Violence in Latin America is caused in great part by drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, and gang wars. Crime in South Africa Mandela Bay in South Africa is the only city outside Latin America among the 10 most dangerous cities worldwide. The country is struggling with extremely high levels of inequality, and is struggling with high levels of crime and power outages, harming the country's economy and driving more people into unemployment and poverty.

Museums allow people all over the globe to explore culture, art, history, science and more unusual interests. Some cities are unsurprisingly home to more museums than others. As of May 2019, Paris was crowned the museum capital of the world, accounting for 297 museums. Following hot on the French capital's heels was Moscow with 261 museums.

Three Mexican cities were among the ten world's best-rated destinations in 2023, according to a survey conducted among Travel + Leisure readers. In 2023, Oaxaca ranked first with a score of 93.53. Based on a collection of estimates, over the past 9,000 years, there have been at least 48 cities with a claim to the title of "the world's most populous city". While these can be found on four separate continents, the majority are concentrated in three major regions; 12 of these cities were in present-day Iraq or Syria (then-Mesopotamia), nine were in China, and seven in Egypt. Additionally, many of these cities were found across the Mediterranean, not only during Antiquity (Alexandria, Carthage, and Rome), but also during the Middle Ages (Constantinople, Cordova, and Fez), highlighting the economic significance of this region throughout history.

As of October 2023, Los Angeles was host to the highest number of Japanese residents among cities outside of Japan with about 64.46 thousand Japanese residents. In the same year, the United States was the country with by far the highest number of Japanese residents outside of Japan.The statistic, which is based on the information gathered by Japanese diplomatic missions abroad, does not include descendants of Japanese emigrants (nikkeijin) who do not hold Japanese citizenship. People with multiple citizenship are counted.

Locations with the hottest average annual temperatures in 2019 saw an average temperature above 31 degrees Celsius over the course of the year. 2019 was a record-breaking hot year for many regions of the world. Matam, Senegal and Yelimane, Mali are both found in the Sahel zone of West Africa.

Cities in the United States dominate the list of cities with the highest number of ulta high net worth individuals (UHNWI) in 2023. This comes as no surprise as it is the country with the highest number of UHNWIs. New York had 16,630 individuals with a net worth exceeding 30 million U.S. dollars, followed by Hong Kong with 12,545 individuals.

Smart cities have existed since the 1960s, evolving through the decades. These cities utilize technology and data to improve overall quality of life and ultimately increase the urban area's efficiency. As of 2024, New York City was the top ranked smart city scoring a motion index score of 100.

In 2022/2023, Singapore was identified as the world's leading destination for international conferences based on its competitiveness, scoring a total of 769.6 index points. According to the ranking, Paris was the second top city destination for business conventions in that year. Three second U.S. American cities also made it into the top ten.

According to a study by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), Paris was the city with the highest direct travel and tourism contribution to GDP in 2022. That year, the direct travel and tourism GDP in the capital of France - the country with the highest number of international tourist arrivals worldwide - amounted to roughly 35.65 billion U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, Beijing and Orlando followed on the ranking in 2022, with a direct travel and tourism GDP of around 32.6 billion and 31.1 billion U.S. dollars, respectively.

When it comes to global tourism, some cities are more expensive than others. They may also attract tourists that are willing to spend a bit more. Dubai had by far the largest international visitor spending in the world in 2018 at 30.82 billion U.S. dollars.

According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2024, the city with the highest number of billionaires in 2024 was New York. In detail, 119 billionaires resided in the American city. Furthermore, 97 billionaires lived in London, while Mumbai had a billionaire population of 92 individuals. New York was the only city in the world with more than 100 billionaires that year. Mega-cities of the world A large number of the world’s billionaires are concentrated in a select number of the world’s mega-cities. This has as much to do with the location of their wealth, business interests, and further earning potential, as does the quality of life in those cities. A look at the most significant industries in the global billionaire production line helps to explain the prominence of the traditional capitals of global business including New York, London and Hong Kong. The place of many Chinese cities on the list can in part be explained by the strong performance of industrial conglomerates from the country in recent years. Economic growth in China While New York is the city with the highest number of billionaires, China now boasts the most billionaires of any country in the world. However, eight of the top ten wealthiest billionaires still came from the United States as of 2024.
