This data set consists of a detailed digital map of individual irrigated fields and a summary of the irrigated acreage for the 2017 growing season developed for Highlands County, Florida. Selected attribute data that include crop type, irrigation system, and primary water source were collected for each irrigated field.
A Geographic Information System (GIS) shapefile and summary tables of irrigated agricultural land-use are provided for Glades, Highlands, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie Counties, Florida. These files were compiled through a cooperative project between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Office of Agricultural Water Policy. Information provided in the shapefile includes the location of irrigated lands that were verified during field surveying that started in November 2023 and concluded in July 2024. Field data collected included crop type, irrigation system type, and primary water source used. A map image of the shapefile is also provided. Previously published estimates of irrigation acreage for years since 1992 are included in summary tables.

This dataset was derived from a multiple-feature dataset developed to correspond to language in the codefied version of the NJ Highlands Water Protection and Planning Act (P.L. 2004, Chapter 120) and in support of the 2008 Regional Master Plan. The features were dissolved into a single feature.

A shapefile was compiled of the extent of irrigated agricultural fields for the period November 2023 to July 2024 for the full county extents of Glades, Highlands, Martin, Okeechobee, and St. Lucie Counties, Florida. Glades, Martin, and St. Lucie Counties are fully within the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), Highlands County is partially within two of the Water Management Districts, the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) and SFWMD, and Okeechobee County in partially within SFWMD and St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD). Attributes for each polygon that represents an agricultural field include irrigated acreage, a general or specific crop type, irrigation system, and primary water source for irrigation.

NMFWRI represents the state’s only dedicated capability for supporting the spatial data analysis needs of external stakeholders in the natural resources sector, as well as the GIS/GPS capacity for Highlands University and for most of northern New Mexico. NMFWRI’s GIS work also provides help with maps and other geographic information to New Mexico groups engaged in forest restoration and land management, but who are too small to maintain their own GIS capability. These groups include soil and water conservation districts, municipalities, private groups and individuals, and tribal organizations.

Introduction
Geographical scale, in terms of spatial extent, provide a basis for other branches of science. This dataset contains newly proposed geographical and geological GIS boundaries for the Pan-Tibetan Highlands (new proposed name for the High Mountain Asia), based on geological and geomorphological features. This region comprises the Tibetan Plateau and three adjacent mountain regions: the Himalaya, Hengduan Mountains and Mountains of Central Asia, and boundaries are also given for each subregion individually. The dataset will benefit quantitative spatial analysis by providing a well-defined geographical scale for other branches of research, aiding cross-disciplinary comparisons and synthesis, as well as reproducibility of research results.
The dataset comprises three subsets, and we provide three data formats (.shp, .geojson and .kmz) for each of them. Shapefile format (.shp) was generated in ArcGIS Pro, and the other two were converted from shapefile, the conversion steps refer to 'Data processing' section below. The following is a description of the three subsets:
(1) The GIS boundaries we newly defined of the Pan-Tibetan Highlands and its four constituent sub-regions, i.e. the Tibetan Plateau, Himalaya, Hengduan Mountains and the Mountains of Central Asia. All files are placed in the "Pan-Tibetan Highlands (Liu et al._2022)" folder.
(2) We also provide GIS boundaries that were applied by other studies (cited in Fig. 3 of our work) in the folder "Tibetan Plateau and adjacent mountains (Others’ definitions)". If these data is used, please cite the relevent paper accrodingly. In addition, it is worthy to note that the GIS boundaries of Hengduan Mountains (Li et al. 1987a) and Mountains of Central Asia (Foggin et al. 2021) were newly generated in our study using Georeferencing toolbox in ArcGIS Pro.
(3) Geological assemblages and characters of the Pan-Tibetan Highlands, including Cratons and micro-continental blocks (Fig. S1), plus sutures, faults and thrusts (Fig. 4), are placed in the "Pan-Tibetan Highlands (geological files)" folder.
Note: High Mountain Asia: The name ‘High Mountain Asia’ is the only direct synonym of Pan-Tibetan Highlands, but this term is both grammatically awkward and somewhat misleading, and hence the term ‘Pan-Tibetan Highlands’ is here proposed to replace it. Third Pole: The first use of the term ‘Third Pole’ was in reference to the Himalaya by Kurz & Montandon (1933), but the usage was subsequently broadened to the Tibetan Plateau or the whole of the Pan-Tibetan Highlands. The mainstream scientific literature refer the ‘Third Pole’ to the region encompassing the Tibetan Plateau, Himalaya, Hengduan Mountains, Karakoram, Hindu Kush and Pamir. This definition was surpported by geological strcture (Main Pamir Thrust) in the western part, and generally overlaps with the ‘Tibetan Plateau’ sensu lato defined by some previous studies, but is more specific.
More discussion and reference about names please refer to the paper. The figures (Figs. 3, 4, S1) mentioned above were attached in the end of this document.
Data processing
We provide three data formats. Conversion of shapefile data to kmz format was done in ArcGIS Pro. We used the Layer to KML tool in Conversion Toolbox to convert the shapefile to kmz format. Conversion of shapefile data to geojson format was done in R. We read the data using the shapefile function of the raster package, and wrote it as a geojson file using the geojson_write function in the geojsonio package.

This polygon was created using a combination of geospatial intersection tools and hand digitization methods. First, the 2023 Southeast Conservation Blueprint, the Western Highland Rim ecoregion, and 2021 NLCD Tree Canopy Cover layers where compared to one another to trace the eastern edge of the Nashville Highland Rim Forest, being sure to include some transition areas between developed and forested areas that provide ecosystem services and natural amenities to urban communities. Then, the Davidson county boundary/Metropolitan government of Nashville and Davidson County was used to intersect the western and northern side of the forest to complete the polygon. The Nashville Highland Rim Forest is relative to the county boundary because Nashville's Metro government covers the entire county. Interconnected Highland Rim forest blocks function outside of Davidson county, but focusing on the Davidson county portion makes it Nashville's Highland Rim Forest. The map below illustrates the how the Nashville Highland Rim Forest aligns with the 2023 Southeast Conservation Blueprint, the 2015 State Wildlife Action Plan's Western Highland Rim Conservation Opportunity Area, and some of the parks that fall within the forest. This polygon can be used to bring awareness of the significance of the forest to Nashville residents and visitors.
