In 2019, more than 22 million medical queries were performed in private hospitals in Spain, up from over 20 million registered a year earlier, making it the most significant health care activity carried out by private health care centers in the country. Moreover, around 7.7 million emergencies, 6.7 million stays, and 1.6 million surgeries took place in private hospitals in Spain that year.
This database collects hospital activity data from State and Private Hospitals. Medical data regarding diagnosis and external causes of injuries/accidents for hospitalised patients is coded according to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10). Operations/procedures are coded in ICD-9 CM-vol3 (procedures).
Quarterly activity data relating to inpatients (elective) and outpatients. All data items relate to all specialties. Figures are submitted quarterly on the Quarterly Activity Return (QAR) by NHS Trusts and Independent sector providers treating NHS patients.
Outpatient data include: • the number of GP and other referrals for first consultant outpatient appointments, • the total number of attendances at consultant outpatient clinics including patients seen for their first appointments as well as those attending for subsequent or follow up appointments, • the number of patients who did not attend their outpatient appointment (first or subsequent) and gave no advance warning, or arrived too late to be seen.
Elective admission events are: • decisions to admit, • patients admitted, • patients failed to attend, • removals other than admission.

IntroductionContradictions remain on the impact of interhospital competition on the quality of care, mainly the mortality. The aim of the study is to evaluate the impact of interhospital competition on postoperative mortality after surgery for colorectal cancer in France.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study from 2015 to 2019. Data were collected from a National Health Database. Patients operated on for colorectal cancer in a hospital in mainland France were included. Competition was measured using number of competitors by distance-based approach. A mixed-effect model was carried out to test the link between competition and mortality.ResultsNinety-five percent (n = 152,235) of the 160,909 people operated on for colorectal cancer were included in our study. The mean age of patients was 70.4 ±12.2 years old, and female were more represented (55%). A total of 726 hospitals met the criteria for inclusion in our study. Mortality at 30 days was 3.6% and we found that the mortality decreases with increasing of the hospital activity. Using the number of competitors per distance method, our study showed that a “highly competitive” and “moderately competitive” markets decreased mortality by 31% [OR: 0.69 (0.59, 0.80); p

This publication looks at Accident and Emergency activity in England for the financial year 2023-24. It describes NHS accident and emergency activity and performance in hospitals in England. The data sources for this publication are the Emergency Care Data Set (ECDS) and Emergency Admissions Monthly Situation Reports (MSitAE) relating to A&E attendances in NHS hospitals, minor injury units and walk-in centres. The report includes analysis by patient demographics, time spent in A&E, distributions by time of arrival and day of week, arriving by ambulance, performance times, waits for admission and reattendances to A&E within 7 days. The purpose of this publication is to inform and support strategic and policy-led processes for the benefit of patient care and may also be of interest to researchers, journalists and members of the public interested in NHS hospital activity in England. Note: the MSitAE figures presented in the 'MSitAE Report Tables' file account for revisions to historic data and may therefore differ slightly from those shown in the 'Quality Indicators (CQI) Open Data' file, which is based on data published at fixed points in the year. The MSitAE data referenced throughout this report are published monthly by NHS England on the separate 'NHS England MSitAE Home Page', as linked to in the Related Links section below. This publication includes the total number of attendances for all A&E types, including Urgent Treatment Centres, Minor Injury Units and Walk-in Centres, and of these, the number discharged, admitted or transferred within four hours of arrival. Also included are the number of Emergency Admissions, and any waits of over four hours for admission following decision to admit. Update (02 November 2015) Data Quality Note. An error was identified and corrected in tables 'Organisations with data extracted on 20 June 2014' and 'Organisations with shortfalls / missing data' of the annual Data Quality Note, where providers who had corrected their shortfalls since the provisional HES publication had not been updated. This was not an error in the data, only in the data quality note. Update: (26 March 2015) Provider Level Analysis released. Update: (26 February 2015) the summary report containing headline figures has been replaced by detailed analysis and additional Excel files have been released. For the 2013-14 financial year, Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) has collected over 100 million records detailing outpatient appointments by NHS hospitals in England or performed in the independent sector, and commissioned by the English NHS. HES outpatient data was collected for the first time in 2003-04. The Health and Social Care Information Centre first released outpatient data at the end of July 2006 and the data was originally released on an 'experimental' basis. Since then, the experimental label has been removed and in 2008 the outpatient published tables were accredited as a National Statistic. This means the data within these specific tables has been produced in accordance with the 'Code of Practice for Official Statistics'. To fully realise the advantages, the quality and coverage of the HES outpatient data needs to be improved with the support of providers throughout England. This publication is released in three phases: January 2015 - Headline figures published; February 2015 - Detailed analysis published; March 2015 - Provider level analysis published

Please note that an issue was identified with the PLA file whereby data in the supporting tables for the Devon, Cornwall and Scilly Isles Area Team was displayed in the wrong order. This issue affected 16 providers listed under Devon, Cornwall and Scilly Isles a Area Team in tables 1-5 & Tables 7 - 10. Data in the MPDP Sheet and the Output sheet of this file was unaffected.
