This dataset has been developed by the Australian Government as an authoritative source of indigenous location names across Australia. It is sponsored by the Spatial Policy Branch within the Department of Communications and managed solely by the Department of Human Services.
The dataset is designed to support the accurate positioning, consistent reporting, and effective delivery of Australian Government programs and services to indigenous locations.
The dataset contains Preferred and Alternate names for indigenous locations where Australian Government programs and services have been, are being, or may be provided. The Preferred name will always default to a State or Territory jurisdiction's gazetted name so the term 'preferred' does not infer that this is the locally known name for the location. Similarly, locational details are aligned, where possible, with those published in State and Territory registers.
This dataset is NOT a complete listing of all locations at which indigenous people reside. Town and city names are not included in the dataset. The dataset contains names that represent indigenous communities, outstations, defined indigenous areas within a town or city or locations where services have been provided.

This dataset presents the estimates of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, non-Indigenous and total populations of Australia for the year ending at 30 June 2016, based on results of the 2016 Census of Population and Housing. The data is by Local Government Areas (LGA) following the 2016 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population of Australia comprises people who are of Aboriginal origin, Torres Strait Islander origin or both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin. The Commonwealth definition of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is: a person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent who; identifies as being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander origin and who is; accepted as such by the community with which the person associates. This data is Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data (catalogue number: 3238.0.55.001) used with permission from the ABS. For more information please visit the ABS Explanatory Notes. This dataset presents information from G07 – Indigenous status by age by sex in Australia based on the general community profile from the 2021 Census. It contains characteristics of persons, families, and dwellings by Local Government Areas (LGA), 2021, from the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Edition 3.
This dataset is part of a set of web services based on the 2021 Census. It can be used as a tool for researching, planning, and analysis. The data is based on place of usual residence (that is, where people usually live, rather than where they were counted on Census night), unless otherwise stated.
Small random adjustments have been made to all cell values to protect the confidentiality of respondents. These adjustments may cause the sum of rows or columns to differ by small amounts from table totals. For further information see the 2021 Census Privacy Statement, Confidentiality, and Introduced random error/perturbation.

This dataset and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied.
This dataset details the declared Indigenous Protected Areas (IPA) across South Australia through the implementation of the Indigenous Protected Areas Programme. The IPA Programme is part of the National Reserve System (NRS) Programme which aims to establish a network of protected areas which include a representative sample of all types of ecosystems across the country. Through this program, Indigenous landowners are being supported to manage their lands for the protection of natural and cultural features in accordance with internationally recognised standards and guidelines for the benefit of all Australians. The IPA Programme and NRS Programme are part of the Australian Government's Natural Heritage Trust. More information can be found from the following website; http://www.deh.gov.au/indigenous/ipa
This dataset can be used to show the locations of Indigenous Protected Areas for conservation purposes.
Through the IPA Programme, as new declarations are made ERIN has continued to produce spatial boundaries of all IPA's. In 2006 ERIN updated the IPA datasets to comply with the Collaborative Australian Protected Areas Database (CAPAD) as IPA's are included in CAPAD. This included modification of the spatial data to remove discrepancies as well as an attribute review for accuracy and completeness. This was undertaken through expert advice from the IPA Programme staff. Yalata, Mt Willoughby and Nantawarrina Protected Areas are based on the DCDB. The others are unknown.

Full-time equivalent enrolments of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students by type of school, collected as part of the annual enrolment data collection in Term 3, from 2012. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students – students who have identified to be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander origin. The term ‘origin’ is considered to relate to people’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and for some, but not all, their cultural identify.

Lineage statement The spatial boundaries were originally compiled by the NRS program and by ERIN since February 2009. Boundaries have been compiled as areas that have been declared through the IPA Programme. In 2006 ERIN revised the IPA dataset to align with the Collaborative Australian Protected Areas Database (CAPAD). This included modification of the spatial data to remove discrepancies as well as an attribution review for accuracy and completeness. This was undertaken with advice from the IPA Programme staff. Since February 2009 most boundaries have been sourced directly from the Indigenous Management Group (IMG) responsible for that IPA. Where this has occurred, it is marked in the Source field. Note: On occasions the spatial boundaries of declared IPAs may alter as new and more up-to-date mapping is made available from IMG's to ERIN. This will alter the GIS area (Ha) figure. Some IPAs have had their boundaries realigned to be consistent with the Geoscience Australia GEODATA COAST 100K 2004 dataset Data dictionary All layers

A continuation of the "Phytochemistry of Australian Plants" database compiled by David Collins and Don McGilvery. Contains chemical structures, references, species names, with persistent identifiers to the literature and Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) for geographical distributions. The current curation effort here adds DOIs/ISBNs/ISSNs for ~80% of references, persistent IDs for all species or genus to the ALA or other datasets, and validated structures (smiles) for ~70% of structures. No new entries have been added since the last update to the original database in 2022. Change log is in the README file.

November 2020 - Please note this dataset has been re-released to exclude Conservation Covenant data for Victoria. The Collaborative Australian Protected Areas Database (CAPAD) 2018 provides both spatial and textual information about government, Indigenous and privately protected areas for Australia, in both the marine and terrestrial environments. This dataset is for terrestrial data only. State, Territory and the large NGO conservation agencies supplied data current for 30 June 2018. This is the eleventh version of the terrestrial database, with previous versions released in 1997, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.The Department also publishes protected areas data for the marine environment. "CAPAD 2018 - Marine" contains spatial and text information about offshore protected areas, for both State and Commonwealth waters. Previous versions of CAPAD marine information have been published in 1997, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.CAPAD provides a snapshot of protected areas that meet the IUCN definition of a protected area: "A protected area is a clearly defined geographical space, recognised, dedicated and managed, through legal or other effective means, to achieve the long term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values." (IUCN Definition 2008).The department publishes a summary of the CAPAD data biennially on its website at https://www.dcceew.gov.au/environment/land/nrs/science/capad.CAPAD 2018 is available for use through the CC-BY 4.0 licencing model. The main attributes of Terrestrial CAPAD 2018 are described below. For more information please refer to the CAPAD Technical Specification document.CAPAD 2018 Attributes:PA_ID: A unique code for the protected area that should persist between versions of CAPAD. In most cases this number will be generated by the DoEE, and is generally based on the RES_NUMBER provided by the data custodian.PA_PID: A unique code for a parcel or zone within a protected area that should persist between versions of CAPAD. For example, a protected area with two zones share the same PA_ID and are assigned PA_PID values of PA_ID_a and PA_ID_b. If a protected area does not have multiple parts/zones then the PA_PID is by default the same as the PA_ID.NAME: The official (gazetted) name of a protected area. Gazetted PAs with no name are flagged as "Unnamed" with a reserve number. e.g. Unnamed HA1207.TYPE: The type of protected area according to the establishment mechanism. eg. This dataset presents the social and economic indicators for the indigenous population of Australia based on the 2016 Census and aggregated following the 2016 edition of the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). The data has been provided by The National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM) and includes the following indicators: age, sex, employment, education level, occupation, school attendance, language, household relationships, family types, household tenure type, household income, motor vehicles and household family composition. All indicators were extracted from the ABS Tablebuilder system using the usual residence profile. For usual residence data, the ABS moves people back to where they live, rather than using the location the data were collected (place of enumeration). Usual residence data is preferred for individual level data because it removes the effect of respondents travelling or holidaying. All rates were calculated as a proportion of all Indigenous people in the area, excluding any Not Stated or Overseas Visitors. Therefore, summing the rates across all categories for an indicator will give a total of 100%. For more information please view the NATSEM Technical Report. Please note: AURIN has spatially enabled the original data provided directly from NATSEM. Where data values are NULL, the data is either unpublished or not applicable mathematically.

Previous versions of CAPAD marine information have been published in 1997, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.CAPAD provides a snapshot of protected areas that meet the IUCN definition of a protected area: "A protected area is a clearly defined geographical space, recognised, dedicated and managed, through legal or other effective means, to achieve the long term conservation of nature with associated ecosystem services and cultural values." (IUCN Definition 2008).The department publishes a summary of the CAPAD data biennially on its website at https://www.dcceew.gov.au/environment/land/nrs/science/capad.CAPAD 2020 is available for use through the CC-BY 4.0 licencing model. The main attributes of Terrestrial CAPAD 2020 are described below. For more information please refer to the CAPAD Technical Specification document.CAPAD 2020 Attributes:PA_ID: A unique code for the protected area that should persist between versions of CAPAD. In most cases this number will be generated by the DAWE, and is generally based on the RES_NUMBER provided by the data custodian.PA_PID: A unique code for a parcel or zone within a protected area that should persist between versions of CAPAD. Gazetted PAs with no name are flagged as "Unnamed" with a reserve number. e.g. Unnamed HA1207.TYPE: The type of protected area according to the establishment mechanism. eg. National Park, Nature Refuge, Indigenous Protected AreaTYPE_ABBR: The abbreviation of the protected area TYPE.AA - Aboriginal AreaACCP - Conservation Covenant [Approved Conservation Covenant Program]ASMA - Antarctic Specially Managed AreasASPA - Antarctic Specially Protected AreasBG - Botanic GardensBG_COM - Botanic Gardens (Commonwealth)CA - Conservation AreaCCA - Coordinated Conservation AreaCCAZ1 - CCA Zone 1 National ParkCCAZ3 - CCA Zone 3 State Conservation AreaCOR - Coastal ReserveCP - Conservation ParkCR - Conservation ReserveFLR - Flora ReserveFR - Forest ReserveGR - Game ReserveHA - Heritage AgreementHIR - Historical ReserveHR - Heritage RiverHS - Historic SiteHTR - Hunting ReserveIPA - Indigenous Protected AreaKCR - Karst Conservation ReserveMA - Management AreaMAA - Management Agreement AreaNAP - Nature ParkNCA - Natural Catchment AreaNCR - Nature Conservation ReserveNFR - Natural Features ReserveNP - National ParkNPA - National Park AboriginalNPC - National Park (Commonwealth)NPS4 - National Parks Act Schedule 4 park or reserveNR - Nature ReserveNRA - Nature Recreation AreaNREF - Nature RefugeNRS - NRS Addition - Gazettal in ProgressNS - National Park (Scientific)OCA - Other Conservation AreaOCA_NAP - Other Conservation Area or Nature ParkOP - OtherPA - Protected AreaPNPA - Proposed National Parks Act park or park additionPNR - Private Nature ReservePPP - Permanent Park PreservePS - Private SanctuaryRA - Reference AreaRCP - Recreation ParkREP - Regional ParkRNA - Remote and Natural Area - not scheduled under National Parks ActRNAS6 - Remote and Natural Area - Schedule 6, National Parks ActRP - Recreation ParkRR - Regional ReserveRSR - Resources ReserveS5G - 5(1)(g) ReserveS5H - 5(1)(h) ReserveSCA - State Conservation AreaSP - State ParkSR - State ReserveWP - Wilderness ParkWPA - Wilderness Protection AreaWZ - Wilderness Zone - Schedule 5, National Parks ActIUCN: the IUCN protected area management category ascribed by the managing authority.Ia = Strict Nature ReserveIb = Wilderness AreaII = National ParkIII = Natural Monument or FeatureIV = Habitat/Species Management AreaV = Protected Landscape/SeascapeVI = Protected area with sustainable use of natural resourcesNR = (Not Reported) - For protected areas where an IUCN category is unknown and/or the data provider has not provided any related information.NA = (Not Applicable) - Denotes an area that does not meet the NRS criteria or the IUCN definition of a protected area but has management complimentary to the NRS.NAS = (Not Assigned) - The protected area meets the standard definition of protected areas but the data provider has chosen not to use the IUCN Protected Area Management Categories.NRS_PA: This attribute indicates the status of the protected area in terms of meeting the standard for inclusion in the National Reserve System (NRS).Y = Yes. The land has been assessed as a protected area that meets the standard for inclusion in the NRS.I = an interim protected area. The land has been assessed to meet the standard for inclusion in the NRS but has not been formally established as a protected area although binding agreements are in place for formal protection to occur in the future.N = No. The land has been assessed not to meet the standard for inclusion in the NRS but is managed for nature conservation without meeting the NRS standard.ND = Not determined. The land is probably managed for nature conservation that has not been assessed to determine if it meets the standard for inclusion in the NRS.Note that for the calculation of area statistics only protected areas with an NRS_PA value of 'Y' or 'I' are included.GAZ_AREA: The area in hectares as described in the nomination document (e.g. parliamentary gazettal), to the nearest hectare. Some protected areas do not have a specific area in the designation.GIS_AREA: The area (in hectares) of a protected area based on current spatial data calculated in the Albers Equal Area projection by DAWE using GIS software. This field is used to calculate the statistics provided in spreadsheets at: www.environment.gov.au/capad/GAZ_DATE: Gazettal date of the original proclamation that established any form of protected area.LATEST_GAZ: the date of the most recent gazettal or proclamation to add land to the protected area. . It can be the same as the GAZ_DATE if there have been no changes or additions to the protected area.STATE: The code for the state or territory that the protected area is located in. "EXT" refers to protected areas located in Australian external territories.AUTHORITY: The code for the authority that administers the Protected Area.AAD - Australian Antarctic DivisionACT_EPSDD - Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development DirectorateAWC - Australian Wildlife ConservancyAWC_BA - Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Birdlife AustraliaAWC_DAM – Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Dambimangari PeopleAWC_DD - Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Department of DefenceAWC_TLLFW - Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Tony and Lisette Lewis Foundation WildlifeLinkAWC_YC - Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Yulmbu CommunityBHA - Bush Heritage AustraliaBHA_NTWA - Bush Heritage Australia and National Trust of Western AustraliaBRC_TAS - Burnie Council - TasmaniaCCC_TAS - Clarence City Council – TasmaniaDCC_TAS - Devonport City Council - TasmaniaDAWE - Australian Government, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and WaterDRC_TAS - Dorset Council - TasmaniaEAC_QLD - Ewamian Aboriginal CorporationEL_NSW - Enduring Landscapes IncFC_NSW - Forestry Corporation of NSWFUA - Federation University AustraliaGCC_NSW - Gosford City Council – New South WalesGCC_TAS - Glenorchy City Council - TasmaniaHCR_CMA - Hunter Central Rivers Catchment Management AuthorityILC - Indigenous Land CorporationIMG - Indigenous Management GroupKNC_TAS - Kingborough Council - TasmaniaKRGC_NSW - Ku-ring-gai Council – New South WalesLCC_TAS - Launceston City Council - TasmaniaLILC - Local Indigenous Land CouncilMINCA_QLD - Magnetic Island Nature Care AssociationNF_SA - Nature Foundation South Australia IncNMC_TAS - Northern Midlands Council - TasmaniaNSC_QLD - Noosa Shire Council - QueenslandNSW_OEH - NSW Office of Environment and HeritageNT_PWCNT - Parks and Wildlife Commission of the NTNTWA - National Trust of Western AustraliaQLD_DES - Queensland Department of Environment and ScienceSA_DEW - South Australian Department of Environment and WaterSA_FRST - Forestry South AustraliaSET - South Endeavour TrustSHFT - Sydney Harbour Federation TrustSMC_TAS - Southern Midlands Council - TasmaniaTAS_DPIPWE - Tasmanian Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and EnvironmentTAS_HYDRO - Hydro TasmaniaTAS_PAHSMA - Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority - TasmaniaTAS_PRIV - Private (miscellaneous) – TasmaniaTAS_VAR - Various managing authorities - TasmaniaTAS_WATER - TasWaterTAS_WPMT - Wellington Park Management Trust - TasmaniaTFN_QLD - Queensland Trust for NatureTFN_VIC - Trust for Nature VictoriaTLC - Tasmanian Land Conservancy IncTSRA - Torres Strait Regional AuthorityVIC_DELWP - Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and PlanningWA_DBCA - Western Australian Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and AttractionsWAC - Winangakirri Aboriginal CorporationDATASOURCE: The code for the agency that supplied the Protected Area data.AAD - Australian Antarctic DivisionACT_EPSSD – ACT Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development DirectorateAWC - Australian Wildlife ConservancyBHA - Bush Heritage AustraliaBHA_NTWA - Bush Heritage Australia and

This dataset consists of comments collected from five articles on the topic of Indigenous language revitalization, published on theconversation.com/au between August 2014 and July 2020. The titles, publication date, and URL of each article are listed below.
The comments presented in this dataset include only first tier comments, i.e., those that are made directly on the article, but excluding comments on those comments and subsequent discussion threads.
Comments were made in a public forum using both real names and pseudonyms; these have been retained in the dataset. Comments have not been edited in any way, though numbers were added to help distinguish them.
This data was collated by Dr. Gerald Roche, Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Politics, Media and Philosophy at La Trobe University in October 2020.

This dataset and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied.
Contains boundary and attribute information for parcels of public, private and Aboriginal lands in Australia. Data are sourced primarly from government gazette notices, cadastral maps and plans. A nominal scale of around 1:5 million and a minimum 50 square kilometre threshold limit for land parcels was used in the generalisation of this product from the National Public and Aboriginal Lands data. Data is suitable for GIS applications. This map shows public and private land tenure, including Indigenous land for the whole of Australia at a scale of 1:4.7 million. The land tenure boundaries depicted on this map generally define broadly classified areas greater than 50 square kilometres. Indigenous land areas between 0.1 and 100 square kilometres are shown more comprehensively by symbols. The information on this map is complemented by statistical tables giving the total area of the land tenure categories for each State and Territory. This map is also available as free vector GIS data, ArcInfo Export, ArcView Shapefile and MapInfo mid/mif. Please direct any corrections or feedback on this map to mapfeedback@ga.gov.au. Product Specifications: Coverage: Australia Currency: Mid 1993 Coordinates: Geographical Datum: AGD66 Projection: Simple Conic on two standard parallels 18S and 36S Medium: Printed map (flat and folded);
Data was primarily sourced from Geoscience Australia's National Public and Aboriginal Lands data which contains data from State and Commonwealth Government gazettes. The Commonwealth Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission and State Government departments provided information on Aboriginal lands not gazetted. Other information was obtained from published maps and Geoscience Australia's National Topographic Mapping Series (NTMS).
