A sampling methodology has been applied to this dataset. This method means that data will not replicate, exactly, data released by the ABS, but the differences should be negligible.

Due to ‘Return to Source’ limitations, data supplied to ABS from non-DIPB sources are also excluded.

Overseas Arrivals and Departures (OAD) data refers to the arrival and departure of Australian residents or overseas visitors, through Australian airports and sea ports, which have been recorded on incoming or outgoing passenger cards. OAD data describes the number of movements of travellers rather than the number of travellers. That is, multiple movements of individual persons during a given reference period are all counted. OAD data will differ from data derived from other sources, such as Migration Program Outcomes, Settlement Database or Visa Grant information. Travellers granted a visa in one year may not arrive until the following year, or may not travel to Australia at all. Some visas permit multiple entries to Australia, so travellers may enter Australia more than once on a visa. Settler Arrivals includes New Zealand citizens and other non-program settlers not included on the Settlement Database. The Settlement Database includes onshore processed grants not included in Settler Arrivals.

These de-identified statistics are periodically checked for privacy and other compliance requirements. The statistics were temporarily removed in March 2024 in response to a question about privacy within the emerging technological environment. Following a thorough review and risk assessment, the Department of Home Affairs has republished the dataset.

Estimated resident population (ERP) is the official estimate of the Australian population, which links people to a place of usual residence within Australia. Usual residence within Australia refers to that address at which the person has lived or intends to live for six months or more in a given reference year. For the 30 June reference date, this refers to the calendar year around it. Estimated resident population is based on Census counts by place of usual residence (excluding short-term overseas visitors in Australia), with an allowance for Census net undercount, to which are added the estimated number of Australian residents temporarily overseas at the time of the Census. Purpose

The data file is used to indicate the location and understood extent of the Warburton Basin.

Dataset History

The Warburton Basin outline interpretation was extracted from the file sedbasdd.shp, which was obtained from GA. As many basins onlap, basin outlines are subdivided according to how many basins onlap the basin in quation. Therefore a selection of all outlines classified as "Warburton Basin" from the categories "B1", "B2", "B3" and "B4" was used to obtain the entire basin outline. These outlines were then combined to form a single outline for the Warburton Basin. Original extraction comes from sedbasdd.shp.

Standardised death rates in this dataset differ from those in the ABS.Stat datasets and commentary. Standardised death rates in this dataset are averaged using data for the three years ending in the reference year. They are calculated for each calendar year and then averaged. This dataset uses deaths and estimated resident population (ERP) for Local Government Areas (LGA) of Australia for 30 June 2012 to 2020, according to the 2020 edition of the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). ERP is final for 2012 to 2016, revised for 2017 to 2019 and preliminary for 2020, based on the 2016 Census of Population and Housing. Data has been sourced from the September 2021 release.

Geoscience Australia's Oracle organic geochemical database comprises analytical results for samples relevant to petroleum exploration, including source rocks, crude oils and natural gases collected across the Australian continent. The data comprises organic chemical analyses of hydrocarbon-bearing earth materials as well as including connectivity to some inorganic analyses. These data enable petroleum fluids to be typed into families and correlated to their source rock, from which depositional environment, age, and migration distances can be determined, and hence the extent of the total petroleum system can be mapped. This comprehensive data set is useful to government for evidence-based decision making on natural resources and the petroleum industry for de-risking conventional and unconventional petroleum exploration programs.

The data are produced by a wide range of analytical techniques. For example, source rocks are evaluated for their bulk compositional characteristics by programmed pyrolysis, pyrolysis-gas chromatography and organic petrology. Natural gases are analysed for their molecular and isotopic content by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-temperature conversion-mass spectrometry (GC-TC-IRMS). Crude oils and the extracts of source rocks are analysed for their bulk properties (API gravity; elemental analysis) and their molecular (biomarkers) and isotopic (carbon and hydrogen) content by GC, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) and GC-TC-IRMS.

The sample data originate from physical samples, well completion reports, and destructive analysis reports provided by the petroleum industry under the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act (OPGGSA) 2006 and previous Petroleum (submerged Lands) Act (PSLA) 1967. The sample data are also sourced from geological sampling programs in Australia by Geoscience Australia and its predecessor organisation's Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO) and Bureau of Mineral Resources (BMR), and from the state and territory geological organisations. Geoscience Australia generates data from its own laboratories. Other open file data from publications, university theses and books are also included

Value: The organic geochemistry database enables digital discoverability and accessibility to key petroleum geochemical datasets. It delivers open file, raw petroleum-related analytical results to web map services and web feature services in Geoscience Australia’s portal. Derived datasets and value-add products are created based on calculated values and geological interpretations to provide information on the subsurface petroleum prospectivity of the Australian continent. For example, the ‘Oils of Australia’ series and the ‘characterisation of natural gas’ reports document the location, source and maturity of Australia’s petroleum resources. Details of the total petroleum systems of selected basins studied under the Exploring for the Future project can be found in the Petroleum Systems Summaries Tool in Geoscience Australia’s portal. Scope: The collection initially comprised organic geochemical and petrological data on organic-rich sedimentary rocks, crude oils and natural gas from petroleum wells drilled in the onshore and offshore Australian continent. Over time, other sample types (ground water, fluid inclusions, mineral veins, bitumen) from other borehole types (minerals, stratigraphic – including the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program), marine dredge samples and field sites (outcrop, mines, surface seepage samples) have been analysed for their hydrocarbon content and are captured in the database. Results for many of the oil and gas samples held in the Australian National Offshore Wells Data Collection are included in this database.

This dataset presents the estimates of the internal migration statistics of Australia by Local Government Areas (LGA) following the 2011 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). The dataset spans from the 2006-07 financial year up to the 2015-16 financial year.

Regional internal migration is the movement of people from one region to another within Australia (both interstate and intrastate). For example, it incorporates moves from a Local Government Area (LGA) to any other LGA within the country. Net regional internal migration is the net gain or loss of population through this movement.

The ABS has developed a new series of annual regional internal migration estimates (RIME) based on the 2011 edition of the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). The Medicare and Defence data used for estimating interstate migration is now also used to estimate internal migration below the state/territory level. However, as Medicare and Defence change of address counts are supplied to the ABS by postcode a method was developed to convert these counts to SA2, the base spatial unit of the ASGS. The method used correspondences to convert to SA2, and adjustments were applied to account for known deficiencies in the Medicare and Defence data. A similar method was used to prepare RIME at the LGA level, based on 2011 boundaries.

The Australian Helminthological Collection (AHC) of the South Australian Museum includes approximately 42,000 registered lots of helminths (e.g. nematodes, tapeworms, and other parasitic flatworms). Most helminths in the collection are from Australian native vertebrates, but there is material from Australian domestic and zoo animals, livestock and humans and from hosts collected overseas. Many of the worms in this collection were donated by one of Australia’s most famous parasitologists and zoologists, Professor T. Harvey Johnston. Some of Johnston’s specimens were collected when he travelled to Antarctica as Chief Zoologist with Sir Douglas Mawson in 1929 as part of the British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expeditions. Material is either kept in bottles of ethanol or mounted on microscope slides. The AHC is used frequently by researchers and students, nationally and internationally, for taxonomic and biodiversity studies.

The 1981 Census Collection District Summary File (CDSF) presents summary characteristics of persons and their dwellings for every Collection District (CD) in Australia for 1981. The census information is made up of 34 tables giving data for both persons and dwellings. This table contains data for birthplace by period of residence in Australia of overseas born persons. Census counts were based on place of enumeration on census night which; includes overseas visitors; excludes Australians overseas; and excludes adjustment for under-enumeration. The data is by Census Collection District 1981 boundaries. Periodicity: 5-Yearly. This data is ABS data (cat. no. 2103.0 & original geographic boundary cat. no. 1261.0.30.001) used with permission from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The tabular data was processed and supplied to AURIN by the Australian Data Archives. The cleaned, high resolution 1981 geographic boundaries are available from data.gov.au. The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation produces floodplain mapping of rivers and major watercourses and provides floodplain development advice to ensure that proposed floodplain development has adequate flood protection and does not impact on the existing flood regime of the area. This advice is related to major river flooding only. Other issues, such as stormwater drainage and environmental and ecological considerations are not addressed. This dataset contains the location of levee banks (polylines) that mitigate the risk of flooding to the community and reduce potential property damage during major flood events. Glossary: Annual exceedance probability (AEP) - the likelihood of occurrence of a flood of a given size or larger in any one year; usually expressed as a percentage. 1 in 100 AEP flood - this means that there is a 1 in 100 (or 1%) chance of a flow of this size or larger occurring in any one year. This flood has a 50% chance of being experienced at least once in a person's lifetime. The 1 in 100 AEP flood has been generally adopted in Australia and overseas as the basis for floodplain management planning. Floodplain - the portion of a river valley next to the river channel which is covered with water when the river overflows its banks during major river flows. The term also applies to land adjacent to estuaries which is subject to flooding. Australian Height Datum (AHD) - is a geodetic datum for altitude measurement in Australia. It was adopted in 1971 by the National Mapping Council as the datum to which all vertical control for mapping is to be referred. The datum is based on the mean sea level (1966-1968) being assigned the value 0.000m on the Australian Height Datum (AHD) at 30 tide gauges around the coast of the Australian continent. This dataset contains estimates of the resident population and estimates of the components of population change as at 30 June for the years 2001-2021. The data is aggregated to the 2021 Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Local Government Areas (LGA).

Notes: The population estimates in this issue are final for 2001 to 2016, revised for 2017 to 2020, and preliminary for 2021. Estimated resident population (ERP) is the official estimate of the Australian population, which links people to a place of usual residence within Australia. Usual residence within Australia refers to that address at which the person has lived or intends to live for six months or more in a given reference year. For the 30 June reference date, this refers to the calendar year around it. Estimated resident population is based on Census counts by place of usual residence (excluding short-term overseas visitors in Australia), with an allowance for Census net undercount, to which are added the estimated number of Australian residents temporarily overseas at the time of the Census.
