    Measurement technique
    To measure the rank and respective trends, we initially gathered data from the five most recent American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates. We then analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories identified by the U.S. Census Bureau. Based on the required racial category classification, we calculated the rank. For geographies with no population reported for the chosen race, we did not assign a rank and excluded them from the list. It is possible that a small population exists but was not reported or captured due to limitations or variations in Census data collection and reporting. We ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories and do not rely on any ethnicity classification, unless explicitly required.For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    This list ranks the 3065 counties in the United States by Black or African American population, as estimated by the United States Census Bureau. It also highlights population changes in each counties over the past five years.

    Content

    When available, the data consists of estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates, including:

    • 2019-2023 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates
    • 2018-2022 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates
    • 2017-2021 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates
    • 2016-2020 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates

To portray the median household income within each racial category idetified by the US Census Bureau, we conducted an initial analysis and categorization of the data. Subsequently, we adjusted these figures for inflation using the Consumer Price Index retroactive series via current methods (R-CPI-U-RS). It is important to note that the median household income estimates exclusively represent the identified racial categories and do not incorporate any ethnicity classifications. Households are categorized, and median incomes are reported based on the self-identified race of the head of the household.     Context

    The dataset presents the median household income across different racial categories in Marks. It portrays the median household income of the head of household across racial categories (excluding ethnicity) as identified by the Census Bureau.     Based on our analysis of the distribution of Marks population by race & ethnicity, the population is predominantly Black or African American.     To measure the rank and respective trends, we initially gathered data from the five most recent American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates. We then analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories identified by the U.S. Census Bureau. Based on the required racial category classification, we calculated the rank. For geographies with no population reported for the chosen race, we did not assign a rank and excluded them from the list. It is possible that a small population exists but was not reported or captured due to limitations or variations in Census data collection and reporting. We ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories and do not rely on any ethnicity classification, unless explicitly required.For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    Measurement technique
    To measure the rank and respective trends, we initially gathered data from the five most recent American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates. We then analyzed and categorized the data for each of the racial categories identified by the U.S. Census Bureau. Based on the required racial category classification, we calculated the rank. For geographies with no population reported for the chosen race, we did not assign a rank and excluded them from the list. It is possible that a small population exists but was not reported or captured due to limitations or variations in Census data collection and reporting. We ensured that the population estimates used in this dataset pertain exclusively to the identified racial categories and do not rely on any ethnicity classification, unless explicitly required.For further information regarding these estimates, please feel free to reach out to us via email at research@neilsberg.com.

    The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To portray the median household income within each racial category idetified by the US Census Bureau, we conducted an initial analysis and categorization of the data. Subsequently, we adjusted these figures for inflation using the Consumer Price Index retroactive series via current methods (R-CPI-U-RS). It is important to note that the median household income estimates exclusively represent the identified racial categories and do not incorporate any ethnicity classifications. Households are categorized, and median incomes are reported based on the self-identified race of the head of the household.     About this dataset

    Context

    The dataset presents the median household income across different racial categories in Columbus. It portrays the median household income of the head of household across racial categories (excluding ethnicity) as identified by the Census Bureau. The dataset can be utilized to gain insights into economic disparities and trends and explore the variations in median houshold income for diverse racial categories.

    Key observations

    Based on our analysis of the distribution of Columbus population by race & ethnicity, the population is predominantly Black or African American. This particular racial category constitutes the majority, accounting for 63.39% of the total residents in Columbus. Notably, the median household income for Black or African American households is $32,255. Interestingly, despite the Black or African American population being the most populous, it is worth noting that Asian households actually reports the highest median household income, with a median income of $250,001. This reveals that, while Black or African Americans may be the most numerous in Columbus, Asian households experience greater economic prosperity in terms of median household income.

  • Black Population: The Black population of the counties is shown in this column.
  • % of Total counties Population: This shows what percentage of the total counties population identifies as Black. Please note that the sum of all percentages may not equal one due to rounding of values.
  • % of Total U.S. Black Population: This tells us how much of the entire United States Black population lives in that counties. Please note that the sum of all percentages may not equal one due to rounding of values.
  • 5 Year Rank Trend: TThis column displays the rank trend across the last 5 years.

Data in the dataset are based on the estimates and are subject to sampling variability and thus a margin of error. Neilsberg Research recommends using caution when presening these estimates in your research.
