    How to use the dataset

This dataset provides detailed US industry data by state, including the number of establishments, value of sales, payroll, and number of employees. All the data is based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for each specific industry. This will allow you to easily analyze and compare industries across different states or regions.

    Research Ideas

    • Analyzing the economic impact of a new business or industry trends in different states: Comparing the change in the number of establishments, payroll, and employees over time can give insight into how a state is affected by a new industry trend or introduction of a new service or product.
    • Estimating customer sales potential for businesses: This dataset can be used to estimate the potential customer base for businesses in different geographic areas. By analyzing total business done by non-employers in an area along with its estimated population can help estimate how much overall sales potential exists for a given region.
    • Tracking competitor performance: By looking at shipments, receipts, and value of business done across industries in different regions or even cities, companies can track their competitors’ performance and compare it to their own to better assess their strategies going forward

    Description

County Business Patterns (CBP) is an annual series that provides economic data by industry at the U.S., State, County and Metropolitan Area levels. This series includes the number of establishments, employment during the week of March 12, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll. CBP provides statistics for businesses with paid employees for the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas. Census Bureau staff identified a processing error that affects selected data from the 2014 County Business Patterns (CBP). As a result, we suppressed 2014 employment and payroll totals in the Health Care and Social Assistance sector (Sector 62) for the following geographies: U.S.; Michigan; Battle Creek, MI metro area; Calhoun County, MI; and the 3rd congressional district of Michigan. This processing error did not affect other sectors. While suppressed values can be derived by subtraction, we do not recommend using the derived values in any analyses. The Census Bureau plans to release revised statistics at a later date.

    Description

Business demography data counts numbers of active businesses with turnover or employment in a reporting year. It also indicates numbers of new businesses (business births) and numbers of businesses terminated (business deaths) during the reporting year. Numbers and percentages of businesses that were newly created during years leading up to the latest reporting year, and which were still surviving, are also shown. When using the data, comparative business birth or death rates may be constructed adhoc if needed, by dividing the number of births or deaths by the number of active businesses. Please note that due to being required early in the reporting cycle, numbers of business deaths are provisional and may be subject to later revision. For more information about the dataset and its methodology, see the source link. Source: Office for National Statistics (ONS)

    DATA QUALITY

Quadrant’s POI data are manually collected and verified by Geolancers. Our network of freelancers, maps cities and neighborhoods adding and updating POIs on our proprietary app Geolancer on their smartphone. Compared to other methods, this process guarantees accuracy and promises a healthy stream of POI data. This method of data collection also steers clear of infringement on users’ privacy and sale of their location data. These purpose-built apps do not store, collect, or share any data other than the physical location (without tying context back to an actual human being and their mobile device).

    USE CASES

The main goal of POI data is to identify a place of interest, establish its accurate location, and help businesses understand the happenings around that place to make better, well-informed decisions. POI can be essential in assessing competition, improving operational efficiency, planning the expansion of your business, and more.

It can be used by businesses to power their apps and platforms for last-mile delivery, navigation, mapping, logistics, and more. Combined with mobility data, POI data can be employed by retail outlets to monitor traffic to one of their sites or of their competitors. Logistics businesses can save costs and improve customer experience with accurate address data. Real estate companies use POI data for site selection and project planning based on market potential. Governments can use POI data to enforce regulations, monitor public health and well-being, plan public infrastructure and services, and more. A few common and widespread use cases of POI data are:

    • Navigation and mapping for digital marketplaces and apps.
    • Logistics for online shopping, food delivery, last-mile delivery, and more.
    • Improving operational efficiency for rideshare and transportation platforms.
    • Demographic and human mobility studies for market consumption and competitive analysis.
    • Market assessment, site selection, and business expansion.
    • Disaster management and urban mapping for public welfare.
    • Advertising and marketing deployment and ROI assessment.
    • Real-estate mapping for online sales and renting platforms.About Geolancer
