    Description

Data used for the Inventory of Vacant Industrial and Business Park Lands Survey. The report monitors the adequacy of supply and land consumption rates for industrial and business park lands. The report includes detailed mapping of all industrial and business park areas in both urban and rural parts of the city.

The survey reports on the inventory of vacant industrial and business park land in the urban and rural areas of the city of Ottawa as of the end of 2015.

Expansion Land – Remaining lots that are judged to be of significant size when only a portion of a property parcel gets developed. These “expansion” lots are not counted as part of the overall vacant industrial land supply unless at some point the area is severed and a new lot is created.

Net/Gross – Net vacant land is derived by applying an 85 per cent factor on lots greater than 5.0 ha and some smaller sized lots if they are adjacent to these large lots.

Locate Ottawa (link is external)is the City of Ottawa’s bilingual online geographic information system-based tool that provides immediate access to key information for site selectors and businesses looking for a new or expanded location. This makes the process of identifying the right location for their business quick and easy. It also provides great business data including demographics, consumer expenditure and workforce data for any business. This information can be tailored to a specific need using a user-defined radius, or a unique user-defined shape using the polygon tool.Another feature of the Locate Ottawa tool is the ability for commercial real estate professionals, including developers/owners and brokers to list and promote current sale or lease opportunities with detailed information about properties and spaces that are available, site attributes, local demographics, pictures, site/floor plans and proximity to other businesses etc.Today, much, if not most site selection screening is done online, and the Locate Ottawa website provides immediate access to the critical business intelligence that decision makers need to make an investment decision. The site reduces research time from weeks to minutes. By providing accurate and timely information for site selectors, Ottawa maintains a competitive global position in attracting and retaining businesses and business investment. By stimulating business growth, the City receives economic benefits through the addition of new valuable jobs, property tax revenue, indirect and induced economic impacts, and the potential to spur further growth, and philanthropic activity.

Needle Drop BoxThe Community Needle Retrieval Program manages an inventory of approximately 80 needle drop boxes that are located throughout Ottawa and are publicly accessible 24/7. The weight retrieved at a needle drop box is reported each time that it is serviced, and data is aggregated monthly.Needle drop box reporting was modernized in 2022 to enable reporting via webform. The location of needle drop boxes in Ottawa may be found here.Residents, businesses and some City personnel use needle drop boxes to dispose of drug use equipment, therefore, there could be overlap between the needles reported through these streams.Accuracy: Needle drop box data is recorded by weight (kg) and converted to an estimated number of needles using a calculation based on average needle weight. The estimate does not account for the following:    Other drug use equipment such as glass pipes, needle caps, tourniquets, cookers, containers used to collect needles such as pop bottles and plastic jars, etc.Medical sharps which differ in mass to the average needle weight such as epi pens, lancets, and other home health care medical supplies.Misplaced waste unrelated to substance use and medical sharps.Needle drop box data relies on the reporting of third-party service contractors. Due to lapses in reporting, the following months are not contained within the dataset:  July 2022, December 2023, January 2024.Update Frequency: QuarterlyAttributes:SourceYear MonthTotal Weight (Kg)Estimated Needles based on Weight Contact: Community Needle Retrieval Program, Ottawa Public Health
