    Description

This dataset is designed for analyzing various product categories within the Japanese market. It provides information about each product category's size, growth rate, market share, competitor market shares, average price, customer demographics, online presence, and market saturation. Here's a breakdown of each column:

Product Category: The type of products or services being analyzed within the Japanese market.

Total Market Size (in USD): The estimated total market size in terms of US dollars for each product category. This figure reflects the overall revenue potential for that category.

Market Growth Rate (%): The projected annual growth rate of each product category's market. This percentage indicates how much the market is expected to expand or contract over time.

Market Share (%): The percentage of the total market size that each product category holds. This reflects the relative importance of each category within the overall market.

Competitor 1 Market Share (%): The market share percentage of the first major competitor within each product category. This helps to understand the competitive landscape.

Competitor 2 Market Share (%): The market share percentage of the second major competitor within each product category. Similar to the previous column, this provides insight into the competitive environment.

Average Price (in USD): The average price of products or services within each product category. This information helps understand the pricing dynamics of the category.

Customer Demographics: The primary target audience or customer segments for each product category. Understanding the demographics helps in tailoring marketing efforts.

Online Presence (%): The percentage of businesses within each product category that have an online presence. This includes websites, social media, and other digital platforms.

Market Saturation (%): An estimate of how much of the potential market demand has already been captured by existing products or services within each category. A higher percentage indicates a more saturated market.

Shopping & Marketplace Experiences, and many more.

    Transcription

Each audio file is paired with a human-verified, verbatim transcription available in JSON format.

    Transcription Highlights:
    Speaker-segmented dialogues
    Time-coded utterances
    Non-speech elements (pauses, laughter, etc.)
High transcription accuracy, achieved through double QA pass, average WER < 5%

These transcriptions are production-ready, enabling seamless integration into ASR model pipelines or conversational AI workflows.

    Metadata

The dataset comes with granular metadata for both speakers and recordings:

Speaker Metadata: Age, gender, accent, dialect, state/province, and participant ID.
Recording Metadata: Topic, duration, audio format, device type, and sample rate.

Such metadata helps developers fine-tune model training and supports use-case-specific filtering or demographic analysis.

    Usage and Applications

This dataset is a versatile resource for multiple Japanese speech and language AI applications:

ASR Development: Train accurate speech-to-text systems for Japanese.
Voice Assistants: Build smart assistants capable of understanding natural Japanese conversations.

Labour Relations in Japan: 1800, 2000

An abridged data format, created by Daan Jansen (IISH) and continuing on earlier work by Joris Kok (IISH), is being offered as an alternative in October 2020. This new version of the dataset includes only records that contain labour relations, leaving out all population data. This update also involved (depending on the dataset in question, substantial) data cleaning, separating male and female individuals, and removing any duplicate records. Hence, the aggregated number of people mentioned in these updated datasets should equal the total population.

Cities can be tremendously efficient. It is easier to provide water and sanitation to people living closer together, while access to health, education, and other social and cultural services is also much more readily available. However, as cities grow, the cost of meeting basic needs increases, as does the strain on the environment and natural resources. Data on urbanization, traffic and congestion, and air pollution are from the United Nations Population Division, World Health Organization, International Road Federation, World Resources Institute, and other sources.

    Description

This study reports the findings of a mail survey of 970 American and 581 Japanese citizens in late 2004 and early 2005. The questions were aimed at measuring the respondents’ attitudes toward global issues, knowledge of global issues, global experiences, perceptions of risk and threat at the global level, and media use, as well as their demographic characteristics. The overall purpose of the survey was to better understand how citizens in both the United States and Japan think about their countries’ roles in the world and how they think about global issues. The data allow researchers to analyze results from two similar surveys completed by citizens in the United States and Japan. Most variables in this dataset contain the responses of both the U.S. and Japanese citizens, allowing for comparative analysis.

    Description

Internally displaced persons are defined according to the 1998 Guiding Principles (http://www.internal-displacement.org/publications/1998/ocha-guiding-principles-on-internal-displacement) as people or groups of people who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of armed conflict, or to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights, or natural or human-made disasters and who have not crossed an international border.

"People Displaced" refers to the number of people living in displacement as of the end of each year.

"New Displacement" refers to the number of new cases or incidents of displacement recorded, rather than the number of people displaced. This is done because people may have been displaced more than once.

Contains data from IDMC's data portal.

    Description

Financial inclusion is critical in reducing poverty and achieving inclusive economic growth. When people can participate in the financial system, they are better able to start and expand businesses, invest in their children’s education, and absorb financial shocks. Yet prior to 2011, little was known about the extent of financial inclusion and the degree to which such groups as the poor, women, and rural residents were excluded from formal financial systems. By collecting detailed indicators about how adults around the world manage their day-to-day finances, the Global Findex allows policy makers, researchers, businesses, and development practitioners to track how the use of financial services has changed over time. The database can also be used to identify gaps in access to the formal financial system and design policies to expand financial inclusion.
