TwitterThis layer was created from dental licensure data gathered from the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Health Care Practitioner Data Portal, https://appsmqa.doh.state.fl.us/downloadnet/Main.aspx, on December 19, 2016. The dentist practice location was then geocoded and reviewed for accuracy. Points that were obviously geocoded incorrectly were moved to the correct practice location. The data attempts to report the practice locations of the active dentists within Florida that are subject to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) federal rule, “Effluent Limitations Guidelines and Standards for the Dental Category, 40 CFR Parts 403 and 441”. https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-12/documents/dental-office-category_final_prepub_12-15-2016.pdf. This final rule requires dental offices to use amalgam separators and two best management practices recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA). Amalgam separators are an available technology for capturing mercury at dental offices. The EPA signed this rule on December 15, 2016 and has submitted it for publication in the Federal Register.

This is the 500 Cities Data of a different year (released in 2018) to the ones already present on Kaggle. It was exported and uploaded without modification. The original source states: "This is the complete dataset for the 500 Cities project 2018 release. This dataset includes 2016, 2015 model-based small area estimates for 27 measures of chronic disease related to unhealthy behaviors (5), health outcomes (13), and use of preventive services (9). Data were provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Population Health, Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch. The project was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) in conjunction with the CDC Foundation. It represents a first-of-its kind effort to release information on a large scale for cities and for small areas within those cities. It includes estimates for the 500 largest US cities and approximately 28,000 census tracts within these cities. These estimates can be used to identify emerging health problems and to inform development and implementation of effective, targeted public health prevention activities. Because the small area model cannot detect effects due to local interventions, users are cautioned against using these estimates for program or policy evaluations. Data sources used to generate these measures include Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) data (2016, 2015), Census Bureau 2010 census population data, and American Community Survey (ACS) 2012-2016, 2011-2015 estimates. Because some questions are only asked every other year in the BRFSS, there are 4 measures (high blood pressure, taking high blood pressure medication, high cholesterol, cholesterol screening) from the 2015 BRFSS that are the same in the 2018 release as the previous 2017 release. More information about the methodology can be found at www.cdc.gov/500cities."

This dataset contains data for the US, 500 cities within it (the 497 largest cities of the US, then a few that were the largest of their state in order to ensure all states were represented), and the census tracts within those cities. The total population represents about 33.4% of the US population.

Abstract Data on dental practices related to caries risk assessment (CRA) are scarce among Brazilian dentists. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of CRA use by dentists and factors associated with its use, as well as to quantify dentists’ ratings of the importance of specific factors when treatment planning. Dentists registered at the Regional Council of Dentistry of São Paulo State – Araraquara region were sent two paper questionnaires that comprised: a) characteristics of dentists themselves, their practices, and their patients; and b) the translated version of the “Assessment of Caries Diagnosis and Caries Treatment” Questionnaire from the U.S. National Dental Practice-Based Research Network. Participants were 206 dentists who currently practiced in Araraquara and treated dental caries. Descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression analyses were used for data analysis. Thirty-six percent of the dentists reported they perform CRA and, among them, 36% indicated they record the assessment on a special form that is kept in the patient chart. More years since dental school graduation (OR = 1.1, p = 0.002) and holding an advanced academic degree (OR=2.6, p=0.005) were associated with a higher likelihood of performing CRA, whereas exclusively using a private practice model (OR = 0.5, p = 0.016) was associated with a lower likelihood of performing CRA. The current oral hygiene and commitment to return for follow-up were the most important risk factors for treatment planning. In conclusion, CRA was not a routine procedure in daily practice among the majority of participating dentists. Specific demographic, practice and academic education characteristics were associated with performing CRA.

Health workforce shortage areas are geographic areas, populations, and facilities that have a shortage of outpatient primary care, dental, and mental health providers and services. These areas are designated by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), a federal agency in the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
There are several types of shortage designations including: - Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) - Medically Underserved Areas and Populations (MUAPs) - Exceptional Medically Underserved Population (Exceptional MUPs) - Governor's-Designated Secretary-Certified Shortage Areas for Rural Health Clinics
HRSA's Bureau of Health Workforce operates a cooperative agreement and evaluates applications submitted by the Primary Care Office (PCO) of each U.S. state and territory as part of the process to designate some types of shortage areas. These applications are reviewed by HRSA to determine if they meet specific designation criteria which differs by the type of shortage area. Other shortage area types are automatically designated by federal statute or at the request of a state governor. Once HPSAs are designated, score is calculated which represents a relative measure of need for health care services for that discipline. Both HPSAs and MUAPs can be designated to indicate a shortage of primary care services while only HPSAs can be designated to indicate a shortage of dental or mental health services. Shortage area designations and scores are used by various federal programs for distributing resources. Some shortage area designations may also be used by state programs.
See the shortage designation website for more information.
The health workforce shortage area data in the included files represent the HPSA and MUAP (including Exceptional MUP) designation information at a single point in time. The dataset is refreshed weekly from the source data files on data.hrsa.gov.
HPSAs All three file contain the same columns but represent only a single healthcare discipline. Each record represents either a "component" (county, county subdivision or census tract) of a Geographic/Population HPSA service area or represents the physical location of facility HPSA.
