This includes all Kindergarten through 12th grade schools as tracked by the Common Core of Data. Included in this dataset are military schools in US territories and referenced in the city field with an APO or FPO address. DOD schools represented in the NCES data that are outside of the United States or US territories have been omitted. This feature class contains all MEDS/MEDS+ as approved by NGA. Complete field and attribute information is available in the ”Entities and Attributes” metadata section. Geographical coverage is depicted in the thumbnail above and detailed in the Place Keyword section of the metadata. This release includes the addition of 3065 new records, modifications to the spatial location and/or attribution of 99,287 records, and removal of 2996 records not present in the NCES CCD data.

This dataset contains records for each public elementary and secondary school in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and outlying areas (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands) in fall 1979. The project permits the educational community to draw statistically valid samples from which state or national estimates can be made and also provides a mailing list of school systems. Significant variables include name, address, county, grade span, size of system, number of schools, and Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area (SMSA) designation.

This dataset contains records for each public elementary and secondary school in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, United States territories (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands), and Department of Defense schools outside the United States for 1996-1997. Records in this file provide the National Center for Education Statistics and state identification numbers, name and ID number of the agency operating the school, name, address, and phone number of the school, school type (regular, special education, vocational education, alternative), locale code (seven categories from urban to rural), number of students by grade and ungraded, number of students eligible for free lunch, and number of students by five race/ethnic categories.

Please note that the APO and FPO schoolpoints are located at 0,0. This feature class contains all MEDS/MEDS+ as approved by NGA. For each field the 'Not Avaliable' and 'NULL' designations are used to indicate that the data for the particular record and field is currently unavaliable and will be populated when and if that data becomes avaliable.

The After-School Programs at Public Elementary Schools, 2008 (FRSS 91), is a study that is part of the Fast Response Survey System (FRSS) program; program data is available since 1998-99 at https://nces.ed.gov/surveys/frss/downloads.asp. FRSS 91 (https://nces.ed.gov/surveys/frss/) is a sample survey that provides a national profile of various types of formal after-school programs physically located at public elementary schools in 2008. These programs include stand-alone programs that focus primarily on a single type of service (e.g., only day care) and broad-based programs that provide a combination of services such as academic enrichment and cultural activities. The study was conducted using surveys via web or by mail. Principals of public elementary schools were sampled. The study's weighted response rate was 91 percent. Key statistics produced from FRSS 91 were program focus (if applicable), number of students enrolled, hours per week the program operates, availability of transportation for students, whether students from other schools attend the program, and factors that may hinder students from participating in the program.

The generalized school district boundaries in this file are based on those in effect for the 2019-2020 school year, i.e., in operation as of January 1, 2020.
