National Records of Scotland (NRS), produces 2 datasets which are designed to show the boundaries of urban areas in Scotland: these datasets are Settlements and Localities. The Census Settlement boundaries have been created using the Census 2022 frozen Postcode boundaries.

A person's age on Census Day, 20 March 2022. Infants aged under 1 year are classified as 0 years of age.

This defines the type of residence a person lives in. It categories people as living in households or living in a communal establishment.

Household

A household is defined as:

one person living alone, or a group of people (not necessarily related) living at the same address who share cooking facilities and share a living room or sitting room, or dining area This includes:

all sheltered accommodation units in an establishment (irrespective of whether there are other communal facilities), and all people living in caravans on any type of site that is their usual residence; this will include anyone who has no other usual residence elsewhere in the UK A household must contain at least one person whose place of usual residence is at the address. A group of short-term residents living together is not classified as a household, and neither is a group of people at an address where only visitors are staying.

Workday population is where the usually resident population is re-distributed to their places of work, while those not in work are recorded at their usual residence.

The workday population of an area is defined as all usual residents aged 16 and above who are in employment and whose workplace is in the area, and all other usual residents of any age who are not in employment but are resident in the area. People who work mainly at or from home or do not have a fixed place of work are included in their area of their usual residence. The following population groups are excluded from the workday population of an area:

• Those living in England and Wales but working in Scotland, Northern Ireland, outside the UK or on offshore installations,
• Those with a place of work in England and Wales but who are not usually resident in England and Wales, and
• Short-term residents

England and Wales (Workplace Population)

Population estimates are based on the 2022 Census and were updated by taking account of births, deaths and migration up to30 June 2023. A quality assurance report for Scotland’s Census 2022 has been published in the Scotland’s Census website. Births and deaths are estimated using data from the civil registration system, which is considered to be virtually complete. Migration is more difficult to estimate because there is no comprehensive registration system in the UK, so the figures are estimated using the sources of data described. The estimated population of an area includes all those usually resident there, whatever their nationality. Students are treatedas being resident at their term-time address. Members of UK and non-UK armed forces stationed in Scotland are included inthe estimated population. UK forces stationed outside Scotland are excluded. Short-term international migrants are excluded.Population estimates for Scotland are comparable with population estimates from the rest of the UK and most countries around the world.

Table shows estimates of resident population by 5 year age band from the 2011 Census of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. England Wales local authorities, counties and regions, plus districts of Scotland and Northern Ireland and total UK population are included. 1) For the 2011 Census, a usual resident of the UK is anyone who, on census day 2011, was in the UK and had stayed or intended to stay in the UK for a period of 12 months or more, or had a permanent UK address and was outside the UK and intended to be outside the UK for less than 12 months. 2) The age of a person is derived from their date of birth. It is their age in years on their last birthday up to and including census day 2011. The non-British population of Scotland was 397,000 (7.4%) in the year to mid-2021. The non-UK born population was 523,000 (9.7%). Numbers of non-British nationals and non-UK born people remained broadly stable compared to the previous year. Of all non-British nationals living in Scotland, 231,000 (58%) were EU nationals and 165,000 (42%) were non-EU nationals. Of all non-UK born people living in Scotland, 258,000 (49%) were born in the EU and 265,000 (51%) were born outside the EU. Polish was the most common non-British nationality, and Poland was the most common non-UK country of birth in Scotland.

This dataset is published as Open Datanational records of scotland - small area population estimates (2017 to 2021). This is the latest release of data based on small areas (datazones). The dataset contains information at the data zone level mid-year population estimates from 2017 onwards for the Stirling Council area. This dataset represents ethnic group (19 tick-box level) by highest level qualification, for England and Wales combined. The data are also broken down by age and by sex.

The ethnic group that the person completing the census feels they belong to. This could be based on their culture, family background, identity, or physical appearance. Respondents could choose one out of 19 tick-box response categories, including write-in response options.

Total counts for some population groups may not match between published tables. This is to protect the confidentiality of individuals' data. Population counts have been rounded to the nearest 5 and any counts below 10 are suppressed, this is signified by a 'c' in the data tables.

"Asian Welsh" and "Black Welsh" ethnic groups were included on the census questionnaire in Wales only, these categories were new for 2021.

This dataset provides Census 2021 estimates that classify usual residents in England and Wales by ethnic group. The estimates are as at Census Day, 21 March 2021. This dataset shows population counts for usual residents aged 16+ Some people aged 16 years old will not have completed key stage 4 yet on census day, and so did not have the opportunity to record any qualifications on the census.

These estimates are not comparable to Department of Education figures on highest level of attainment because they include qualifications obtained outside England and Wales.

Daily official UK Covid data. The data is available per country (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and for different regions in England. The different regions are split into two different files as part of the data is directly gathered by the NHS (National Health Service). It's worth noting that the dataset hasn't been cleaned and it needs cleaning. Also, different files have different null columns. This isn't an error in the dataset but the way different countries and regions report the data.
