This dataset presents information from G33 – Total household income (weekly) by household composition in Australia based on the general community profile from the 2021 Census. It contains characteristics of persons, families, and dwellings by Local Government Areas (LGA), 2021, from the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Edition 3.

This dataset is part of a set of web services based on the 2021 Census. It can be used as a tool for researching, planning, and analysis. The data is based on place of usual residence (that is, where people usually live, rather than where they were counted on Census night), unless otherwise stated.

Small random adjustments have been made to all cell values to protect the confidentiality of respondents. About this dataset

Context

The dataset presents the median household income across different racial categories in Au Sable charter township. It portrays the median household income of the head of household across racial categories (excluding ethnicity) as identified by the Census Bureau. The dataset can be utilized to gain insights into economic disparities and trends and explore the variations in median houshold income for diverse racial categories.

Key observations

Based on our analysis of the distribution of Au Sable charter township population by race & ethnicity, the population is predominantly White. This particular racial category constitutes the majority, accounting for 94.09% of the total residents in Au Sable charter township. Notably, the median household income for White households is $46,614. Interestingly, White is both the largest group and the one with the highest median household income, which stands at $46,614.

This dataset presents data on income (including Government allowances) available from the ABS Data by Region statistics. This release of Data by Region presents various data for 2011-2019 and Census of Population and Housing data for 2011 and 2016 and is based on the Statistical Area 2 (SA2) 2016 boundaries. The dataset includes information in the following specified areas of income: Estimates of Personal Income, Gross Capital Gains, Selected Government Pensions and Allowances, Total Personal Income (Weekly) and Equivalised Total Household Income. Data by Region contains a standard set of data for each region type, depending on the availability of statistics for particular geographies. Data are sourced from a wide variety of collections, both ABS and non-ABS. The census information is made up of 34 tables giving data for both persons and dwellings. This table contains data on families per household. Census counts were based on place of enumeration on census night which; includes overseas visitors; excludes Australians overseas; and excludes adjustment for under-enumeration. The data is by Local Government Area 1981 boundaries. Periodicity: 5-Yearly. This data is ABS data (cat. no. 2103.0 & original geographic boundary cat. no. 1261.0.30.001) used with permission from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. This dataset presents information from 2016 at the household level; the percentage of households within each Index of Household Advantage and Disadvantage (IHAD) quartile for Statistical Area Level 2 (SA2) 2016 boundaries.

The IHAD is an experimental analytical index developed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) that provides a summary measure of relative socio-economic advantage and disadvantage for households. It utilises information from the 2016 Census of Population and Housing.

IHAD quartiles: All households are ordered from lowest to highest disadvantage, the lowest 25% of households are given a quartile number of 1, the next lowest 25% of households are given a quartile number of 2 and so on, up to the highest 25% of households which are given a quartile number of 4. This means that households are divided up into four groups, depending on their score.

Please note:

• AURIN has generated this dataset through aggregating the original SA1 level data (with calculated number of households/quartile) to SA2 level.

• The number of occupied private dwellings, and number of households in each of the IHAD quartiles for each SA2 were calculated by aggregating the values of each of those specified columns from the SA1 dataset. Percentages of households in each of the IHAD quartiles were calculated for each SA2 from these aggregated totals.

• A household is defined as one or more persons, at least one of whom is at least 15 years of age, usually resident in the same private dwelling. All occupants of a dwelling form a household. For Census purposes, the total number of households is equal to the total number of occupied private dwellings (Census of Population and Housing: Census Dictionary, 2016 cat. no. 2901.0).

• IHAD output has been confidentialised to meet ABS requirements. In line with standard ABS procedures to minimise the risk of identifying individuals, a technique has been applied to randomly adjust cell values of the output tables. These adjustments may cause the sum of rows or columns to differ by small amounts from table totals.

Percentage of households that own their home, calculated at the Statistical Area level 2 (SA2) level for 2016 census with data sourced from ABS TableBuilder. Total number of 'owner' households is aggregate of four categories:'Owned Outright', 'Owned with a mortgage', 'Being purchased under a rent/buy scheme' and 'Being occupied under a life tenure scheme' and the owner households percentage is calculated for the total number of occupied private dwellings with known tenure type.

Data were collected through an online survey from a sample of Australian households, The final sample, after removing the unusable responses yielded 1007 completed responses. The participants were recruited through a market research company, Dynata and the target households were accessed through their internal social research panels. The online survey was administered from 4th to 19th December 2023.

Housing serves many purposes in our society. It provides space for raising families, for leisure and rest, and increasingly, our housing doubles as a workspace. Housing also impacts our mental and physical health due to factors such as cold, mould, poorly managed maintenance issues, unaffordability, and inequality. Despite the centrality of housing in our everyday lives, we as researchers are yet to have a systematic understanding of Australian housing conditions and changes over time. Building on the earlier housing conditions projects in this series, including the Australian Housing Conditions Dataset (2016) and the Australian Rental Housing Conditions Dataset (2020), in 2022 we collected data on the housing conditions of 15,000 rental (including private and public) households and 7,500 homeowners, covering all Australian states and territories. Recognising the emerging importance of renting in Australia, the sampling was weighted to oversample rental households. This data infrastructure will provide the knowledge base for national and international research and allow better urban, economic and social policy development. The project is funded by the Australian Research Council through the Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) grant program, in partnership with The University of Adelaide, the University of South Australia, the University of Melbourne, Swinburne University of Technology, Curtin University and Torrens University Australia and is led by Professor Emma Baker at the University of Adelaide.

The Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey is a nationally representative longitudinal study of Australian households which commenced in 2001. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services (DSS), the HILDA Survey is managed by the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research at the University of Melbourne. The HILDA Survey provides longitudinal data on the lives of Australian residents. Its primary objective is to support research questions falling within three broad and inter-related areas of income, labour market and family dynamics. The HILDA Survey is a household-based panel study of Australian households and, as such, it interviews all household members (15 years and over) of the selected households and then re-interviews the same people in subsequent years. This dataset is the 23rd release of the HILDA data, incorporating data collected from 2001 through 2023 (Waves 1-23). The special topic module in Wave 23 is life stages, and includes questions on relationships, family formation and retirement.

Counts are of all classifiable households, excludes those dwellings which were temporarily unoccupied at the time of the census but the collector had ascertained that it was normally occupied, or the household contained only persons under 15 years of age. Counts are based on place of enumeration on census night which; includes overseas visitors; excludes Australians overseas; and excludes adjustment for under-enumeration. The data is by LGA 1991 boundaries. Periodicity: 5-Yearly.
