The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages. About this dataset

    Context

The dataset tabulates the Magazine population over the last 20 plus years. It lists the population for each year, along with the year on year change in population, as well as the change in percentage terms for each year. The dataset can be utilized to understand the population change of Magazine across the last two decades. For example, using this dataset, we can identify if the population is declining or increasing. If there is a change, when the population peaked, or if it is still growing and has not reached its peak. We can also compare the trend with the overall trend of United States population over the same period of time.

    Key observations

In 2023, the population of Magazine was 744, a 0.27% increase year-by-year from 2022. Previously, in 2022, Magazine population was 742, a decline of 0% compared to a population of 742 in 2021. Over the last 20 plus years, between 2000 and 2023, population of Magazine decreased by 168. In this period, the peak population was 912 in the year 2000. The numbers suggest that the population has already reached its peak and is showing a trend of decline. Source: U.S. Census Bureau Population Estimates Program (PEP).

    Description

AARP The Magazine was the leading U.S. magazine in the first half of 2023, with a paid and non-paid circulation of ***** million. In second place was the AARP Bulletin with ***** million. These two magazines had by far the highest circulation of all magazines analyzed by the source, with Costco Connection in third place with a circulation of just over ** million, followed by American Mainstreet with a little over ** million. Magazine brands and categories The fastest-growing magazine brand in the United States in 2020 was experiential travel magazine Afar. Largely thanks to an increase in mobile web visitors, the magazine’s average monthly audience climbed by ** percent year-over-year. Travel was, however, not among the top-performing magazine categories in the United States in 2020, and data showed that just one travel magazine was launched that year. The majority of magazines launched were in the special interest category. Magazine readership U.S. magazine readers still prefer print magazines to digital versions. At the same time, the average mobile web audience of magazine brands is growing. In fact, data from December 2020 showed that ** percent of magazine access in the United States occurred via mobile web, very close to the share of adults reading printed magazines or online versions thereof. The number of magazine readers climbed semi-consistently between 2012 and 2019, although the figure dipped below *** million in 2020. The source partially attributed this to the drop in pass-along readership during the COVID-19 pandemic, as trends showed that without the outbreak, the number was on track to reach *** million.

    Description

In 2021, there were ***** million magazine readers aged 18 or older in the United States. This marked an increase of *** thousand readers from the previous year. The number dropped substantially between 2019 and 2020, which the source partially attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting reduction in pass-along reading. The figure for 2019, on the other hand, was the highest recorded since 2012, and trends during that period indicated a slow annual increase in the number of magazine readers. Magazine reading behavior Magazine readership is changing. On the one hand, data from surveys held in 2019 and 2020 found that print magazines remained the preferred magazine format, but there was also a growing interest in online versions. The audience of magazine brands was comprised mostly of readers of print magazine and their digital counterparts in December 2020, but mobile web came a very close second with a year-to-date average audience of over *** million. If this trend continues, magazine brands’ mobile web visitors will account for the majority of their audience in the next one to two years. Magazine brands In 2020, the fastest-growing magazine brand in the United States was experiential travel publication Afar. The magazine's average monthly audience grew by almost ** percent compared to the previous year, partly thanks to a boost in the publication's mobile web visitors. The most recently available data on other travel magazine brands found that several publications in that category enjoyed a large mobile web audience, and Condé Nast Traveler had a video audience of over *** million. The leading consumer magazine in the United States by circulation in the first half of 2021 was AARP The Magazine, with a circulation of close to ** million.

    Description

TIME's Person of the Year hasn't always secured his or her place in the history books, but many honorees remain unforgettable: Gandhi, Khomeini, Kennedy, Elizabeth II, the Apollo 8 astronauts Anders, Borman and Lovell. Each has left an indelible mark on the world.TIME's choices for Person of the Year are often controversial. Editors are asked to choose the person or thing that had the greatest impact on the news, for good or ill — guidelines that leave them no choice but to select a newsworthy, not necessarily praiseworthy, cover subject. Controversial choices have included Adolf Hitler (1938), Joseph Stalin (1939, 1942), and Ayatullah Khomeini (1979).TIME's choices for Person of the Year are often politicians and statesmen. Eleven American presidents, from FDR to George W. Bush, have graced the Person of the Year cover, many of them more than once. As commander in chief of one of the world's greatest nations, it's hard not to be a newsmaker.ContentThis dataset includes a record for every Time Magazine cover which has honored an individual or group as "Men of the Year", "Women of the Year", "Person of the Year" or "Persons of the Year".AcknowledgementsThe data was scraped from Time Magazine's website.

Archivo Histórico de Revistas Argentinas (https://ahira.com.ar/) at the Instituto de Historia Argentina y Americana "Dr. Emilio Ravignani” (Buenos Aires) and Cultural Magazines of Latin America (CMoLA) (https://digital.iai.spk-berlin.de/viewer/collections/lateinamerikanische-kulturzeitschriften/) of the Ibero-American Institute (Berlin) . The former consists of 898 files and the latter 4698, each file representing a journal issue. The research studied these archives and collections to estimate the representation of women writers in literary databases by leveraging Named Entity Recognition (NER) to extract names and map them to resources like Wikidata, which provide details on gender and occupation. By doing so, we tracked the representation of women writers, comparing their presence with that of male writers. In addition, the analysis was enriched with information on the countries of residence and the languages in which these women wrote, allowing for an estimation of how many were featured in translation or cited as foreign authors. The data was further visualized as bipartite graphs, linking writers to journals and quantifying the frequency of their contributions or citations, with a particular focus on the gender disparity and its evolution over time. Lastly, we examined the occurrence of terms related to translation and versioning, estimating the role of literary translation across various corpora, archives, and collections, highlighting its significance in the dissemination of works by women writers.

Measurement technique
The data presented in this dataset is derived from the latest U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2019-2023 5-Year Estimates. To measure the two variables, namely (a) population and (b) population as a percentage of the total population, we initially analyzed and categorized the data for each of the age groups. For age groups we divided it into roughly a 5 year bucket for ages between 0 and 85. For over 85, we aggregated data into a single group for all ages.
