    Description

Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner. These surveys focus on the funding of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in three different regions in Europe: South East England, Bavaria in southern Germany and Emilia-Romagna in Italy, against the background of increasing integration of Europe’s financial space, and the specific context of dramatic transformation of regional and local banking systems and the emergence of a venture capital market. The research focused on the implications of the restructuring, reorganisation and transformation of local and regional banking systems across Europe for the role of such banks in funding and supporting the SME sector. Local and regional banks are being rationalised as part of a wave of merger and reorganisation activity that is sweeping through Europe’s financial system. The concern is that what appears to be increasing centralisation of banking will have detrimental effects on the links between local firms, especially small and medium sized enterprises, and local banks, and the access of such firms to loan capital. Main Topics: The dataset includes information from the postal questionnaires. In the first section of the questionnaire, the SMEs were asked general questions about the nature of their business, its size, employment growth, and turnover. The second section was concerned with the methods of financing the SMEs used and what that finance was used for. The third section of the questionnaire covered SMEs' use of bank finance, and the fourth section asked questions on the use of venture capital finance.

    Description

The Supply Chain Disruptions Survey aims to capture companies' recent experiences and future expectations regarding supplier relationships. The survey was conducted in four countries – Austria, Denmark, Germany and Hungary – between mid-2023 and spring 2024. Medium-sized and large companies operating in different manufacturing industries were asked about various aspects of their relationship with their suppliers, in order to shed light on the input-output linkages between companies and their suppliers, to better understand the relevance of intangible assets alongside the classical tangible firm-to-firm links and the reactions to shocks along the GSCs. The first round of the Supply Chain Disruption Survey represented in this dataset was conducted as part of the EU-funded research project 'Rethinking Global Supply Chains: Measurement, Impact and Policy' (RETHINK-GSC), which captures the impact of knowledge flows and service inputs in global supply chains (GSCs). Update (December 2024): The updated dataset contains expanded data with additional survey responses from spring 2024, mostly from Germany, with a few responses from Denmark and from Austrian or Hungarian enterprises with a primary activity in non-manufacturing.

    Description

In order to assess the structure and development of road haulage, the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) carries out representative surveys of information on companies that operate road haulage. They serve the purpose of recognizing developments in the transport and logistics market at an early stage and should, among other things, contribute to maintaining the functionality of the transport industry, which is predominantly characterized by medium-sized companies. The survey on the "Structure of companies in commercial road haulage and own-account transport" is based on the Traffic Statistics Act (VerkStatG). The survey covers all companies headquartered in Germany that use trucks, including trailers, with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tons for road haulage. It covers a representative selection of no more than 10% of companies that carry out road haulage as their main, secondary or auxiliary activity. As part of the survey, the selected companies are asked for information on their economic activities, the number of vehicles used to transport goods by vehicle and body type and on the structure of the workforce, and presented in a differentiated manner according to different criteria.
