American Labor Who's Who dataset, version 2.2.0
A dataset derived from the digitized text of Solon de Leon, et al., The American Labor Who's Who (New York: Hanford Press, 1925). This release includes separate files the U.S. and "Other Countries" sections of the directory.
The American Labor Who's Who (ALWW), published in 1925, is a directory of activists in the fields of trade unionism, immigrant rights, civil liberties, progressive and radical politics. The directory includes roughly 1,300 entries for U.S. activists and 300 additional non-US activists. Each entry is a telegraphic biography. Some provide only name, professional title and address at the time of publication, but many sketch rich life histories. Nearly all provide details on birth date and place, family background, education, migration, and work histories, as well as key organizations, events publications, home and work addresses.
The ALWW dataset is derived from the text hosted on the HathiTrust digital library: https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/000591300. Faculty, staff, and students at UCLA corrected the plain text from the scanned document and parsed the text into comma-separated fields. This release includes separate files for US entries and "Other Countries" entries. About 30 individuals are listed in the US section with the notation "see other countries," mainly Canadians and Mexicans. This subset is also in a separate file in this release.

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) Border Crossing Data provide summary statistics for inbound crossings at the U.S.-Canada and the U.S.-Mexico border at the port level. Data are available for trucks, trains, containers, buses, personal vehicles, passengers, and pedestrians. Border crossing data are collected at ports of entry by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The data reflect the number of vehicles, containers, passengers or pedestrians entering the United States. CBP does not collect comparable data on outbound crossings. Users seeking data on outbound counts may therefore want to review data from individual bridge operators, border state governments, or the Mexican and Canadian governments.

These are Census boundaries with water and/or coastlines erased for cartographic and mapping purposes. This data set contains lidar point data (UTM, Zone 11) from a strip of Southern California coastline (including water, beach, cliffs, and top of cliffs) from Long Beach to the US/Mexico border. The data set was created by combining data collected using an Optech Inc. Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper (ALTM) 1225 in combination with geodetic quality Global Positioning System (GPS) airborne and ground-based receivers. The Bureau of Economic Geology, the University of Texas at Austin owns and operates an ALTM 1225 system (serial number 99d118). The system was installed in a twin engine Partenavia P-68 Observer (tail number N6602L) owned and operated by Aspen Helicopter, Inc. The lidar data set described by this document was collected on 18 and 19 October 2005; Julian Days 29105 and 29205 (see Lineage, Source_Information, Source_Contribution for pass information). 99d118 instrument settings for these flights were; laser pulse rate: 25kHz, scanner rate: 26Hz, scan angle: +/- 20deg, beam divergence: narrow, altitude: 300-600m AGL, and ground speed: 95-120kts. Four GPS base stations, Seal Beach and San Onofre on 29105 and Point Loma and Scripps Pier on 29205 (see Lineage, Source_Information, Source_Contribution for coordinates), operated during the survey. Data represented is all points including terrain, vegetation, and structures. This data also contains returns from the water surface. No processing has been done to remove returns from terrain, vegetation, structures or water surfaces.
