This Climate Data Record (CDR) of monthly mean High Resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder (HIRS) Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR) flux at the top of the atmosphere in all sky conditions is on a 2.5 degree x 2.5 degree grid with global coverage from January 1979 to the present and continuing monthly. Grid dimensions are 144 x 72, with 10,368 total grids over the globe. The data set was derived using a multispectral HIRS OLR algorithm on the HIRS level 1b dataset from the TIROS-N to NOAA-19 series satellites with inter-satellite and radiance calibration adjustments employing an empirical diurnal model for the monthly mean derivation. The NOAA Global Surface Temperature Dataset (NOAAGlobalTemp) is derived from two independent analyses: the Extended Reconstructed Sea Surface Temperature (ERSST) analysis and the land surface temperature (LST) analysis using the Global Historical Climatology Network (GHCN) temperature database. The data is merged into a monthly global surface temperature dataset dating back from 1880 to the present, updated monthly, in gridded (5 degree x 5 degree) and time series formats. This data set is used in climate monitoring assessments of near-surface temperatures on a global scale. The changes from version 3.5.4 to version 4.0.0 include an update to the primary input dataset (ERSST) now at version 4.0.0 and GHCN-Monthly now at version 3.3.0. This dataset is formerly known as Merged Land-Ocean Surface Temperature (MLOST).

              Teens and social media

Teens report feeling more confident, popular, and better about themselves when using social media, and less lonely, depressed and anxious.
              Social media can have negative effects on teens, which is also much more pronounced on those with low emotional well-being. It was found that 35 percent of teenagers with low social-emotional well-being reported to have experienced cyber bullying when using social media, while in comparison only five percent of teenagers with high social-emotional well-being stated the same. As such, social media can have a big impact on already fragile states of mind.

How much time do people spend on social media?

              As of 2024, the average daily social media usage of internet users worldwide amounted to 143 minutes per day, down from 151 minutes in the previous year. Currently, the country with the most time spent on social media per day is Brazil, with online users spending an average of three hours and 49 minutes on social media each day. In comparison, the daily time spent with social media in
              the U.S. was just two hours and 16 minutes. Global social media usageCurrently, the global social network penetration rate is 62.3 percent. Northern Europe had an 81.7 percent social media penetration rate, topping the ranking of global social media usage by region.               People access social media for a variety of reasons. Users like to find funny or entertaining content and enjoy sharing photos and videos with friends, but mainly use social media to stay in touch with current events friends. Music ranked in second place with 10.96 percent, followed by family with 8.24 percent.
