The Food Assistance Program provides Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards that can be used to buy groceries at supermarkets, grocery stores and some Farmers Markets. This dataset provides data on the number of households, recipients and cash assistance provided through the Food Assistance Program participation in Iowa by month and county starting in January 2011 and updated monthly.
Beginning January 2017, the method used to identify households is based on the following: 1. If one or more individuals receiving Food Assistance also receives FIP, the household is categorized as FA/FIP. 2. If no one receives FIP, but at least one individual also receives Medical Assistance, the household is categorized as FA/Medical Assistance. 3. If no one receives FIP or Medical Assistance, but at least one individual receives Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa or hawk-i benefits, the household is categorized as FA/hawk-i. 4. If no one receives FIP, Medical Assistance or hawk-i , the household is categorized as FA Only.
Changes have also been made to reflect more accurate identification of individuals. The same categories from above are used in identifying an individual's circumstances. Previously, the household category was assigned to all individuals of the Food Assistance household, regardless of individual status. This change in how individuals are categorized provides a more accurate count of individual categories.
Timing of when the report is run also changed starting January 2017. Reports were previously ran on the 1st, but changed to the 17th to better capture Food Assistance households that received benefits for the prior month. This may give the impression that caseloads have increased when in reality, under the previous approach, cases were missed.

In this paper we explore the relationship between Americans’ attitudes toward immigrants and immigration and their attitudes toward welfare. Using data from the Cumulative American National Election Study (CANES) from 1992-2012, we find ample evidence of the influence of immigration attitudes on both individuals’ attitudes toward welfare recipients and their attitudes toward increased welfare spending. These immigration effects persist even in face of statistical controls for attitudes toward African Americans and attitudes toward the poor; indeed, in our models the magnitude of the effects of immigration attitudes surpasses the magnitude of effects of attitudes toward blacks. Further, our findings of immigration effects withstand a range of robustness tests. Our results point to the possible "immigrationalization" of Americans’ welfare attitudes and provide strong evidence that how Americans think about immigration and immigrants is a major factor in how they think about welfare.

This data collection is part of the 1985 Continuing Survey of Food Intakes by Individuals (CSFII) and provides information on 1-day dietary intakes of men 19 to 50 years of age living in the United States in 1985. Two separate population groups of men were surveyed: (1) a sample of men of all incomes drawn from all private households, and (2) a smaller sample of men drawn from households with reported incomes at or below 130 percent of the poverty guidelines. Part 1, Respondent Demographics and Nutrient Intake File, contains demographic information on each respondent in the household selected to be interviewed, as well as the respondent's use of special diets, vitamin and mineral supplements, and a summary of the nutrient content of the foods eaten by that individual. Part 2, Household File, contains information on basic characteristics of the respondent's household, including participation in food welfare programs. Part 3, Detailed Food Intake File, includes information on the type and amount of each food item eaten at home or away, the time of day the food was eaten, and the use of salt and fat in the food preparation. A Food Instruction Booklet, included with the data collection instrument, was used to help respondents describe foods and amounts eaten. Demographic information on respondents include age, race, education level, employment status, occupation, height, weight, and health status. Household characteristics include the age, education level, occupation, and employment status of the male head of the household, the sex and age of household members, household income, tenancy status of the residence, and type of residential area (e.g., urban or rural).

Occupation describes the kind of work a person does on the job. Occupation data were derived from answers to questions 45 and 46 in the 2015 American Community Survey (ACS). Question 45 asks: “What kind of work was this person doing?” Question 46 asks: “What were this person’s most important activities or duties?”
These questions were asked of all people 15 years old and over who had worked in the past 5 years. For employed people, the data refer to the person’s job during the previous week. For those who worked two or more jobs, the data refer to the job where the person worked the greatest number of hours. For unemployed people and people who are not currently employed but report having a job within the last five years, the data refer to their last job.
These questions describe the work activity and occupational experience of the American labor force. Data are used to formulate policy and programs for employment, career development, and training; to provide information on the occupational skills of the labor force in a given area to analyze career trends; and to measure compliance with antidiscrimination policies. Companies use these data to decide where to locate new plants, stores, or offices.

This data collection is part of a longitudinal survey designed to provide detailed information on the economic situation of households and persons in the United States. These data examine the distribution of income, wealth, and poverty in American society and gauge the effects of federal and state programs on the well-being of families and individuals. There are three basic elements contained in the survey. The first is a control card that records basic social and demographic characteristics for each person in a household, as well as changes in such characteristics over the course of the interviewing period. The second element is the core portion of the questionnaire, with questions repeated at each interview on labor force activity, types and amounts of income, participation in various cash and noncash benefit programs, attendance in post-secondary schools, private health insurance coverage, public or subsidized rental housing, low-income energy assistance, and school breakfast and lunch participation. The third element consists of topical modules, which are a series of supplemental questions asked during selected household visits. Topical modules include some core data to help link individuals to the core files. A topical module was not created for Wave I. The Wave II Topical Module (Part 17) covers recipiency, employment, work disability, education and training, marital status, migration, and fertility histories along with household relationships. The Wave III Topical Module (Part 19) includes data on work schedules, child care, child support agreements, support for nonhousehold members, functional limitations and disability, and utilization of health care services. Data from the Wave IV Topical Module (Part 21) include assets and liabilities, retirement expectations and pension plan coverage, and real estate property and vehicles. The Wave V Topical Module (Part 23) provides data on educational financing and enrollment. The Wave VI Topical Module (Part 25) covers time spent outside the work force, child care, child support agreements, support for nonhousehold members, functional limitations and disability, and utilization of health care services. Data in the Wave VII Topical Module (Part 27) cover selected financial assets, medical expenses and work disability, and real estate, shelter costs, dependent care, and vehicles. In 2023 the poverty rate in the United States was highest among people between 18 and 24, with a rate of 16 percent for male Americans and a rate of 21 percent for female Americans. The lowest poverty rate for both men and women was for those aged between 45 and 54. What is the poverty line? The poverty line is a metric used by the U.S. Census Bureau to define poverty in the United States. It is a specific income level that is considered to be the bare minimum a person or family needs to meet their basic needs. If a family’s annual pre-tax income is below this income level, then they are considered impoverished. The poverty guideline for a family of four in 2021 was 26,500 U.S. dollars. Living below the poverty line According to the most recent data, almost one-fifth of African Americans in the United States live below the poverty line; the most out of any ethnic group. Additionally, over 7.42 million families in the U.S. live in poverty – a figure that has held mostly steady since 1990, outside the 2008 financial crisis which threw 9.52 million families into poverty by 2012. The poverty gender gap Wage inequality has been an ongoing discussion in U.S. discourse for many years now. The poverty gap for women is most pronounced during their child-bearing years, shrinks, and then grows again in old age. While progress has been made on the gender pay gap over the last 30 years, there are still significant disparities, even in occupations that predominantly employ men. Additionally, women are often having to spend more time attending to child and household duties than men.
The recent global economic slowdown, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, created an urgent need for timely data to monitor the socioeconomic impacts of the pandemic. Tanzania is among other countries in the world which are affected by the recent global economic slowdown, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, there is an urgent need for timely data to monitor and mitigate the socio-economic impacts of the crisis in the country. Responding to this need, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Office of the Chief Government Statistician (OCGS), Zanzibar in collaboration with the World Bank and Research on Poverty Alleviation (REPOA) implemented a rapid household telephone survey called the Tanzania High-Frequency Welfare Monitoring Survey (HFWMS).
Thus, the main objective of the survey is to obtain timely data that is critical for evidence-based decision making aimed at mitigating the socio-economic impact of the downturn caused by COVID-19 pandemic by filling critical gaps of information that can be used by the government and stakeholders to help design policies to mitigate the negative impacts on its population.

The primary sample for this activity was drawn from the 2014/15 NPS and 2017/18 HBS. Target sample completion each month is estimated at 3000 households. The 2014/15 NPS acted as the primary sample frame, complimented by the 2017/18 HBS.
The sample for the HFWMPS was drawn from the 2014/15 NPS and 2017/18 HBS. Both surveys were conducted over a 12-month period and are nationally representative. During the implementation of the surveys, phone numbers are collected from interviewed households and reference persons who are in close contact with the household in order to assist in locating and interviewing households who may have moved in subsequent waves of the survey. This comprehensive set of phone numbers as well as the already well-established relationship between NBS and these households made this an ideal frame from which to conduct the HFWMS in Tanzania.
To obtain a nationally representative sample for the Tanzania HFWMS, a sample size of approximately 3,000 successfully interviewed households was targeted. However, to reach that target, a larger pool of households needed to be selected from the frame due to non-contact and non-response common for telephone surveys. Thus, about 5,750 households were selected to be contacted.
All 5,750 households were contacted in the baseline round of the phone survey. [Error! Reference source not found. ] presents the interview result for the baseline sample. 49.2 percent of sampled households were successfully contacted. Of those contacted, 96 percent or 2,708 households were fully interviewed. These 2,708 households constitute the final successful sample and will be contacted in subsequent rounds of the survey.
