CBS is in transition towards a new classification of the population by origin. Greater emphasis is now placed on where a person was born, aside from where that person’s parents were born. The term ‘migration background’ is no longer used in this regard. The main categories western/non-western are being replaced by categories based on continents and a few countries that share a specific migration history with the Netherlands. The new classification is being implemented gradually in tables and publications on population by origin.
Data available from: 1950 Figures on population by origin are only available from 2022 at this moment. The periods 1996 through 2021 will be added to the table at a later time.

The figures in the table relate to people from the birth generations mentioned who were living in the Netherlands in 2008. The percentage is calculated on the total number of persons from the relevant period of birth with characteristics such as gender and 'parental family situation'. For example, this table shows the percentage of people from a certain birth generation who have ever had children before or at an age with the parental family as a background variable. The family is the context for the socialization process: parents serve as role models for children. In addition, children 'from home' receive social, economic and cultural resources. This table provides an answer to the extent to which the context of the parental family influences the demographic course of life. The POPLINK database contains personal records entered from parish registers from large parts of the Västerbotten county and the inland of Norrland. The database covers parish registers from the end of the 17th century until 1950. The personal records stem from different types of parish registers such as catechetical registers, birth and baptism registers, banns and marriage registers, migrations registers, and death registers.
These datasets, ranging from birth to death, provides possibilities to link together individuals and generations. The life stories of individuals as well as family histories can be tracked. Moreover, the dataset offers the possibility to study demographical and socio-economic changes over time across different regions and parishes.
The purpose of the POPLINK database is to provide detailed individual records from church books between the late 1600s and around 1950 for research. It enables studies on demography, social structures, and historical development in Sweden. POPUM offers data on, among other things, population development, migration patterns, economic changes, industrialization, agricultural communities, small-scale farming, Sámi history, and urbanization.
The database is a resource in many areas of research. Not least because of the possibility to link together POPLINK with other modern registers. This means, among other things, that the life sciences can investigate how nature and nurture influence the development of our most common national diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes. Within the social sciences and the humanities, the increasing access to personal records brings about an opportunity for new perspectives on the rise of the welfare state and the time that shaped the modern Sweden.
POPLINK is a research database, which means that only academic researchers can be given access. In some cases it requires approval from The Swedish Ethical Review Authority.

This database is a compendium of histories of known age seals (Weddell) from observations across the Southern Ocean but focussed on the Windmill Islands, Mawson and the Vestfold Hills. Although the following information pertains to Elephant Seals, it is assumed similar procedures were undertaken with the Weddell Seals between 1973 and 2006: At Macquarie Island 1000 seals were weighed per annum between 1993-2003 at birth and individually marked with two plastic flipper tags in the inter-digital webbing of their hind flippers. These tagged seals were weighed again at weaning, when length, girth, fat depth, and flipper measurements were made. Three weeks after weaning 2000 seals were permanently and individually marked by hot-iron branding. Recaptures and re-weighings of these known aged individuals were used to calculate growth and age-specific survival of the seals. Similar data were collected from elephant seals between 1950 and 1965 when seals were individually marked by hot-iron branding. Mark-recapture data from these cohorts were used to assess the demography of the declining population. Length and mass data were also collected for these cohorts and were used, for the first time, to assess the growth of individual seals without killing them. The database was held by the Australian Antarctic Data Centre, but was taken offline due to maintenance problems. A snapshot of the database was taken in June 2018 and stored in an access database. This work was completed as part of ASAC project 90.
